I was impressed with such a large selection to chose from , the possibilities were endless . Too bad my wallet wasn't endless , the prices were a bit steep . I settled on a coffee mug wall art piece . The girls all picked animal figurines , my friend Heather just watched and assisted her girls with getting paint . The women who was working wasn't super charismatic, but admittedly, she had a full house that afternoon with no help . I was impressed on how nice our pieces turned out , the young ladies loved them too . It's not an activity I can afford to do all the time , but it was fun getting my creative juices flowing .

The book was Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren. You register for the class and pay online. It is an easy process. You pick up the book before the class. You have a few weeks to read the book and then show up to the book club, where you discuss the book while making a craft. I love this concept. This was my dream night/class, getting to read a book and then craft while discussing it. There were about 8 people there and the instructor. Everyone was so kind and excited to be there and talk about the book. The craft was tote bags. We took acrylic paint and painted a bunch of books on there. There were so many creative designs.  The space at Musejar is wonderful. There is a separate entry for art classes and the store. The store has some super cool craft products, as well as a large selection of fiber items, and decor. It is inviting and warm and always decorated with the season or holiday. It's warm and welcoming and many collaborative efforts happen via classes within the community. See their website for a calendar or listing of classes. Some classes are for just a session others for weeks. And there's pottery date nights that sell out nearly instantly. I'd recommend MuseJar.

I came across the brunch even online via Facebook. Right away I followed the link and purchased my ticket for a Sunday event. It was quick and easy. The day of the event I arrived a few minutes late but it was no big deal. Finding the venue was a little tricky. It's of those things where if you blink, you'll miss the entrance. It only took a few moments to figure it out. Once inside it was small but cozy. There were 18 people attending the brunch and we started right away. I really enjoyed the class. We were given cute glasses with a buffalo on them and the mimosas were served. Brunch was comprised of bagels, coffee cake and scones from Panera. It was a nice spread and we were welcome to help ourselves to the spread of food. Our instructor Mo, was very nice and bubbly. She was extremely patient and kind. She never hesitated to repeat a step even if it was for the 27th time. She came right over and showed everyone over and over. She made learning fun and easy. I would love to take another class with her for sure. She's a great teacher. The space was a little tight for the blankets were were making but I really enjoyed chatting with the other people and getting to know them. I'm definitely going to keep an eye out for more events.

Two notable differences from other potters: 1. The glazes include colors like I've not seen, bright and colorful and 2. The inclusion of slab formed mugs. Note, there are many beautiful glazes that are not colorful as well, more traditional blues and earth tones. I bought a cheerful mug as a tribute to my late rescue Maltese. I was given classes at ArtYard as a gift several times, and each time by the end of the session, I vowed not to return. Have you ever experienced waiting in line somewhere while the associate chit chats with others, like you're not even there? You might have a question, but you're stuck, waiting, until they're good and ready to address you? And your inquiry is even brief, but you must wait? This is what it feels like taking a "class" at ArtYard - it's really more like you're renting the studio space for six weeks, which if you had acquired the necessary skills would be fine. I expected an attentive teacher walking around offering encouragement, tips and advice to students, and rooting them on, like the substitute that was there once, he was amazing! However, you must simply wait for a break in the conversation, say please, and not chew gum in class if you'd like help. Or to keep from idling, ask another student for help. One can be talented at what they do, but not have the heart of a teacher. (And yes, I understand that there is a certain amount of trial and error to creating art such as pottery: figuring things out, making your own mistakes, trying, trying again. I get that. I am a designer for a living.) Contacting the instructor - via phone, email or text - was unpredictable, you may or may not get a response. Sadly, I got to the point where I could take "the attitude" no longer: frustrated, upset, and humiliated, I walked out of the second class, and didn't return. And no one with the heart of a teacher would allow that to go unnoticed. But they did.
