I called and asked for a manager, again, was given a crazy maybe teenage person named Kaia, who said I was now out of the grace period (I already called?), and to basically eat it. The girls at the desk have the worst customer service, rude and not attentive! I asked about the first time courtesy tan for new people they told me they couldnt do that that I would have to buy a few sessions first and then they could possibly comp a session??? I came back in showing them the email for the first free sun bed and was able to pop in but it took longer then expected for one stand up tan that no one was even in! When the bed was ready they didn't even properly direct me to the right room smh there attitudes and attention to their clients is sad. read more

In town for work and bought a couple months of platinum membership. I've seen a few things at this location that have bothered me. The first being a new girl left alone right after hire with little to no idea what she was doing, drowning with a line of customers waiting to check in, a bunch of beds that needed cleaning, and bed 24 chanting an error code that would make anyone wanna lose their mind let alone a new employee already stressed. But my breaking point was the out of order washer and the "no towels being given out" sign. Not Sorry...but when I paid as much as I did for a membership, I fully expect to not have to shove my wet sweaty a$$ into my clothing, or worse yet use my clothing to dry off! This inconvenience might have been acceptable if I'd have gotten a warning from this business, say an email or text to let me know to bring my own towel. In my opinion a decent business would pay an employee to wash towels at the laundry mat, to keep their paying customers happy ‍ Just a thought... What can I say? This is a franchised tanning salon. It is like most other Desert Sun locations - in that it is clean, has mostly-friendly employees, and convenient (ample!) parking. I only ever use the lay-down, 'gold' level beds. In case that matters to you. I have never had an issue with cleanliness or ever having to wait for the bed I wanted. Most other Desert Sun locations I have been to, I have had to wait more that once. I usually visit this location in the mornings on Fridays / Saturdays. Only on one occasion did I have a rude employee taking a personal call in front of me while I waited to check-in. The other employee was rushing around cleaning beds, and promptly came and assisted me. I was irritated at her, but not enough so to note who it was or when. I feel like 99% of the service I have received at this location have been acceptable. The tanning passes are cheap - and they always run promotions. I recommend signing up for the text promotions! You can get up to 70% off sometimes, and even a FREE TAN! Better than your average franchised-salon and a step-above all others in Kitsap county. read more

I only go here for spray tans and there has always been one available. There are two Versapro booths so there is a back booth. After seeing the previous reviews I feel the need to address some things. The staff are always pleasant even faced with some "Karens" (I don't know what it but I think they all go here). Emily greeted me with a pleasant smile and quickly sanitized the room. No pressure sales on products or services ever (which I really appreciate) unless I ask or they let me know I'm low on my spray tans left and they are running a special. I am hopeful that this review will be used as an opportunity to better train staff on how to handle multiple customers. I walked into the silverdale Location at about 12:00pm on a Sunday- it was dead other than the couple at the front desk trying to decide whether or not they should purchase a package of tans instead of a membership. Having managed a desert sun for 3 years, I would have and would have taught my staff, to CHECK IN THE CUSTOMER WAITING, or at least courteously ask what they're in for, BEFORE spending another 20 minutes on a sale. I finally left at 12:22 because it's simply unacceptable to have customers wait that long, when checking them in would have taken about 60 seconds. It's vital to focus on current customers that spend money in order to retain them- as well as new customers. Otherwise, your business will eventually fail. read more

Being on SSI, I honestly felt like I was getting a HUGE TREAT! Signing up for unlimited Gold tanning. It made me feel so GOOD,. Until after paying $85.00, for unlimited tanning. I go in looking forward to having my 10 minutes of paradise! I walked in, with a line behind me, I was informed my credit card didn't go through!. I was embarrassed, SHOCKED! And upset. So, don't expect to have unlimited tanning, and they don't charge your card!. It's a tanning salon in the great Pacific Northwest, what's not to like! Some of the gals could be a little more personable and less robotic (reason for 4 stars and not 5) but other than that, it's a great place to get some UV radiation! I've been going to Desert Sun for at least 7 years and have always found it to be clean and well kept. The fire a couple years ago was a bit scary but the new location is nice and has better parking! They keep the beds in great condition and if I tell them a bed has bulbs out it's usually fixed the next time I go in. The prices can be a bit high but they always have specials and throw in free tans or upgrades. I haven't used the spray tans or body wraps but both of my daughters have and they have nothing but good things to say about them. They always made appointments and never had problems with machines being down or availability of product. Best thing about Desert Sun is all of the locations! Since it's all computerized my account is accessible at all of their locations. If you're not sure, stop in and check them out for yourself, they'll usually give you a free tan to test it out! read more

Location is convenient for me, I live up the hill so about a 3 minute drive. I've never had to make an appt, i usually just walk in and able to have treatment right away. Went in, did my thing, and left! Wham bam thank ya ma'am! The girls are nice, informative, and don't try to oversell or bother you to purchase things you don't need. I came at the perfect time as they had a special deal of buy one get one going on. I bought 10 sessions for the cocoon wellness pods and got 10 free! $250 for 20 sessions. Great deal! (I personally like the wellness pods, it's like a personal sauna with skin benefits, and supposedly you can burn up to 600 calories a session. I hope so, bc I'm a lazy bum lol) It's relaxing, calming, and I feel better about myself afterwards.) read more

Came in yesterday for the promo sign on the counter for $29 unlimited infrared sessions for 2 weeks. The gal yesterday said there wasn't enough time for two of us and said we could come back the next day and still get the deal. We come back today, the day after, and we are told we need to be members and that we can't get the deal because even though the promo sign is on the counter, it actually isn't supposed to be there anymore and they can't honor it. I'm not familiar with this area but went into this location because I always tan at desert sun. The versa was down which wasn't a big deal, my reason for 1 star is because I've never, EVER been treated so rudely at any desert sun. The girl working behind the counter didn't even greet me, act annoyed when I came in, I had to use the mystic tan after asking for versa and she didn't explain or offer to explain it to me. "Vanessa" acted as if I was an inconvenience to her the entire time. I understand everyone's dealing with their own daily struggles, but she was just mean. Like, I'm just coming into tan, a smile or at least some manners wouldn't kill ya... I know my friends have commented on how the girls working at this franchise can have a bad attitude, but I've always had such good experiences with everyone! Not this time. A very nice and helpful girl (Brielle) who works in the Poulsbo location recommended I use my upgrades (super and spray tan) at the other location in Silverdale because she said they had better bed selections. So after work I made an extra special drive from Kingston all the way to Silverdale. At first impression after walking in, around 8:30pm they were pretty busy. So I saw it as a good sign. When I checked in the girl helping me never smiled once. Bad day? Who knows...She definitely lacked the "wow" factor. There was no wait for my room so I went in right away. She didn't really show me the bed and how it worked. It was my first time using that one as it was part of my upgrade in my package so it would have been nice to have a quick overview. The bed and room were clean, but the towel I had was torn up on one end which I thought looked super tacky and the plexi glass was cracked a lot on the bed but I don't usually judge a place by the aesthetics. It was just very hard not to notice these things. One thing I noticed also was that when I hit the "stop" button the bed didn't turn off I just ended up jumping out as I felt super hot. This was the first room on he fifth and side of the salong I almost felt like I was inconveniencing them by one having to explain the spray tan to me. (By the way none of them wanted to walk me back to the spray tan area). The girl who checked me in finally took me back there. She rushed through the spiel acting as if she was more focused on getting done as fast as she could. So after she left I was kind of in there on my own and hoping I did everything right that she told me. For a person like me who has done it before a long time ago I was somewhat knowledgeable however if someone had come in here not knowing a single thing her talking that fast would probably confuse them. Has customer service died these days?! It's not that difficult to be friendly and to let customers know you appreciate their business. I left feeling very disappointed and actually telling them to have a good night. Don't think they were even going to bother. It's unfortunate but I won't be recommending this location to anyone or returning. Poulsbo is by far my favorite and the girls there are very sweet and friendly. Another frustrating experience today. I came in for a spray tan to find out the machine was not working once AGAIN. I was told I could go to Poulsbo. (I was just in Poulsbo and I wasn't planning on returning today). Last time I actually did go to Poulsbo but their machine was also out of solution so wasted a trip to both places. This seems to be a common occurrence the past few months. I think I was successful two out of my last six attempts. A 33% success rate is not good when you are paying such a high monthly fee. I'm seriously considering canceling my membership but I feel they have the monopoly on tanning salons in Kitsap unfortunately. What to do?I see many other frustrations similar to mine here and I have yet to see a response by the owner. I suggest putting some money into a new machine if you cannot keep your current spray booth operating. Your taking our money and putting it towards repairs that don't seem to be working. I recently bought a sunless membership at this location and so far I've loved it. I love that they have the Versa Pro machines, and I've never had to wait for a machine any time I've come in. I've found the girls working here to be very friendly and helpful. I also purchased their sunless products - the ph lotion to intensify the sunless application, and the at home spray self tanner for touch ups. The ph lotion is like every other ph lotion I've used - I'm not sure if it really makes a difference, but I don't mind the extra step before tanning. The spray tanner is great. Gives a really nice color and smells fine - none of that horrible self tanner scent. So far I'm really happy with my tanning experience here. read more

However, this place is run like the typical tanning salon, understaffed with minimal to no management. Last Saturday (4/20) no one was there to open the doors, this Saturday (4/27) there was a sign on the door saying their new days are Mon-Fri. This happens with zero notice. I have had a TERRIBLE experience at Desert Sun Tanning with the theft of my diamond necklace. I left it in a room on accident but called immediately after - the gal was able to find it and said she would put it in an envelope and it would be safe since I wasn't able to make it back there that night. I left at 1am the next morning on vacation to get married and wouldnt be back for a week and she understood this. I went back to go get it Friday and it's GONE. There are NO security cameras. An employee would be the only one that KNEW there weren't cameras, KNEW where the necklace was and KNEW what they were looking for considering all the other jewelry and envelopes in the lost and found were untouched. I have yet to be contacted by management to resolve this (ITS BEEN 4 DAYS) even after asking staff to have them call me since they wont provide phone numbers. I've emailed corporate twice, i've left 2 voicemails and i've called 8 times. The necklace had an extreme amount of sentimental value to me and I am devastated over this. I have been a loyal customer for 8 years and have probably spent thousands with this company. About 4 other women have reached out to me with similar experiences with Desert Sun and at this point, it's no longer a coincidence. Its a pattern. *my insurance deductible doesnt cover the monetary value of the necklace *I take accountability for leaving it and not returning right away but i TRUSTED the staff and the establishment to keep my valuable safe until i returned. I had to Hit a Star to give an opinion, but the Company (we contact Corporate too) doesn't even deserve that. My Husband tried to buy myself Tanning as a Christmas gift. The staff was not prepared with certificates or a brochure to explain what was purchased. The Customer Service, as stated by a previous customer, is in much need of training. Being sarcastic and snotty to potential clients, says a lot about the employees this company hires. Even the store manager did not resolve the problem. Corporate said we would be contacted concerning the incident, but still haven't heard from anyone. Can't stand this particular Desert Sun location. When I first started tanning everything seemed great, the beds were clean, the people where nice, etc. Before my 21st bday I was in there all the time as I was traveling home to celebrate and wanted to look good. Literally days before my bday I somehow contracted scabies!!!! At the time I wasn't working out at gyms, wasn't coming in contact with other people in such a way that this would have ever been possible - all I can track it back to was Desert Sun. I called the Silverdale location and had asked for the manager. I explained that I'd just gotten back from the dr. and they'd said I contracted scabies somehow or another. Now, I just wanted to call and let her know that the beds must not have been cleaned or something was missing between person to person in their turn around process. The store manager/owner (Ashley) couldn't have been more atrocious, she said that there was no way it was possible, that they use cleaning supplies so strong that it could kill a small animal and that I was lying! Now, I called, not upset, and with the best intention to simply inform her that this had happened but she couldn't have been a bigger bitch! One would think that she'd appreciate the courtesy call, the fact that I was being nice about the situation and not demanding that her business pay for my medical bills...she could have also used this instance as an example when having a serious discussion with her staff to make sure things were getting done correctly but no, she told me I was mistaken, that I must not be a clean person or that my dr. was wrong. I haven't been back since and I refuse to give money to any franchise that treats their customers with such disrespect. read more

I was paying for a monthly tanning package, and decided to put my account on hold instead of cancelling altogether when I knew I'd be leaving town for almost a year. I was charged $5 a month for my account to be "frozen" (the benefit to freezing your account is not having to pay start up fees, so I've been told). When I came back to town, I decided I didn't want to tan anymore, but wanted to use my credit I had earned towards a body wrap package. There was a $99 unlimited body wraps for a month special going on (you can go once every other day); after I applied my credit I paid an additional $30 or so out of pocket that day. When I purchased my package at this location in October (I was told I could only use my credits at this location, not at any others because I opened my account here), I told the girl who was helping me that I also wanted to cancel my account altogether. That should be enough right? I GUESS NOT. Fast forward a few months later and I noticed $5 charges on a card that I admittedly don't use/ track often. Come to find out, my account was never cancelled and I was still being charged. When I discovered this I called right away and was told I needed to cancel in person, which is understandable. I went down and signed an "electronic form" (who knows what you're signing, they wont show you the screen but they'll offer to read aloud what the document says), which is apparently what should have happened the first time I cancelled in October. I asked about my refund and the manager told me I wouldn't be getting one, that I would have to use that money as bronze bucks towards something in the store. NO THANK YOU! She gave me the number to corporate, who contacted me a couple days later.. Only to find out this location is a franchise and corporate has "no control" over refunds. The manager of the Silverdale store called a few days later and left a message to call her back - when I did she told me the owner wouldn't give me my money back and that she would text her to let her know I'd like to talk to her. That's ridiculous! The total amount I'm asking to have refunded is less than most movie tickets nowadays. I have no plans to tan anymore, I don't spray tan, and there are no other products in that store I would find use out of. As a business owner, I would assume it's important for your business to maintain a positive reputation and keep customer satisfaction high so you can keep business coming in. Repeat customers are crucial to keep any business thriving. But clearly this owner only cares about the bottom line and has no regard for customer retention. read more

I am a middle aged woman who has been tanning most all of my adult life. Recently I've switched to spray tanning. I really enjoy the Versa Spa system at the Silverdale location. However, the customer service at their front desk is appalling! For the 2nd time now I have had the misfortune of dealing with the same young girl who tries to argue with me! First time in this Desert Sun. I'm used to going to the ones in Seattle. The girl that helped me her name was Sammie or Sammy (sp?) But she was super helpful! And greeted us right away unlike other salons I've been into! She totally made us feel welcomed!! She got me hooked up on unlimited tanning for a month and helped me pick out a great tanning lotion comparable to my old favorite tanning lotion! This Desert Sun is the best in our area. It has all the newer machines and infrared and red light therapy. I only have one criticism, and that is in the infrared pod room, there isn't any chair or stool to put my clothes or drink on. I'm not sure why they think I would want to put everything on the ground, but I have requested a simple chair just like all the other rooms have for several weeks now, and still no chair. I go 5 days a week, alternating tanning and infrared plus red light therapy every time. read more

1. The last few times I've been to this location AND the Poulsbo location their spray tan machines are down. (4 times total in the last 2 months) 2. If you own TANNING SALONS you would think (??) if you knew a law going into effect that doesn't allow 18 and under to use a tan bed you would have the brains to either add more spray tan rooms or make SURE YOUR SPRAY TAN MACHINES ARE ALWAYS WORKING. 3. I like this place a lot they have a lot of rooms so the most I have ever waited is 5 minutes. If you can go to this one over the Bremerton one, better staff here and newer and more beds. The girls are friendly and know my name by now. I started a month ago to get ready for my vacation and I am considerably darker and not orange looking. If you can do the super package it tans you faster, but the mediums beds are good as well. I haven't done a spray yet but I heard they just got a new machine so it shouldn't be down any more like one of the reviews said. I did knock the score one star because the lotions are over priced, cheaper on amazon, and they need to train everyone to be able to check people in if there is a line sometimes they just continue cleaning. Have popped in as a visiting member 4 times now at this location and each time there is a very short, dark curly haired young lady too busy on her cell phone to give full attention. Once it was a full 40 seconds before she even looked up as I decided to time it - that's a long time to stand right in front of someone and stare waiting to be waited on while they are on their cell phone. read more
