We have gone through a few doctors over the time we have been at Desert Shores Pediatrics due to two Doctors moving in the first year we were there. A little disappointing since we liked them and got comfortable with them and had no idea they moved or were leaving until we made our next appointment. Loved Dr Potts all around and Dr Yin was very knowledgeable but now we see Dr Allred whom my son LOVES! I have the typical toddler who cries with any healthcare personnel he sees but he is so good for Dr Allred! She is so sweet, personal, knowledgeable and always takes my concerns into consideration. My son never cries when he sees her and actually looks forward to seeing her! One star removed for the billing area. I have had a few issues with being double billed, having an extra statement that was already paid in office or insurance not getting the correct information so I would get charged for something that I wouldn't have to pay out of pocket. I have had many calls with the office and communication with the front desk and insurance and it's always been cleared up but watch your statements. read more

Long story short, 2 year old who ended up having Rhino virus (common cold) comes into the office, starts coughing, front desk freaks out yells out to mother "is he breathing?!" like she's never seen a child cough and have a red face for a second. Anyway, they rush him back in, 3 people trying to assess him at the same time (NP, MA, random student) sends him into crying and fighting them. He has a cold, he's sick, his breathing isn't amazing, but the stimulation of scared staff members losing their cool didn't make him any better. They want to call 911, because they put him on 1 liter of oxygen. Which brought him to 100% O2 sats BTW. I drove him to the hospital instead of wasting a paramedics time. Reading in the notes, NP Taryn asks MD Holmes if she should call CPS, MD Holmes instructed her if we didn't take the child to the ED like I told her I would, then call. NP Taryn in her own note called the ER and confirmed we were there 30 minutes later, it's a 30 minute drive to the pediatric center, DUHHH. Anyways, I don't believe NP Taryn did the CPS call. I believe the medical director who called us after his discharge to ask us why we were changing pediatricians did after I told her I felt like her staff was scared to treat their patient, and needed the emergency room to do the job they couldn't. Clearly she didn't like that when she tried to throw in my face "well I went to medical school so... blah blah blah". She clearly took that up the rear end and ended up calling on her own accord because well, she's a doctor folks! So unless you want to deal with staff freaking out about basic sick kids, then providers power tripping CPS to your home because they didn't like you pointing out that their staff needs better training, then AVOID. Also they charge ridiculous fees if you miss an appointment, the girl with the red short hair at the front desk is constantly rude to people, and the 80 year old lady at the front desk who assumed the child wasn't breathing because he coughed more than 4 times in a row should probably get some better training some time! I don't thing NP Taryn did a bad job. I think that she should have attempted to treat him more than she did sure, I think she was more prepared to treat him than she actually believed but now after reading through these notes, it's clear that because I was firm on them not wasting resources, identifying that fear in them as providers treating patients and not being afraid to tell that to their boss who again, called us ONLY after hearing we were going to another pediatrician (money hungry creep who doesn't want to lose out on the 4 children I take there) that that's why CPS was actually called. We had a very disappointing experience with this office. Our family was dealing with a serious situation -- our daughter was hit by a car, and we have substantial medical bills. When I called to discuss a small outstanding balance, we asked if we could pay a reduced amount temporarily due to our circumstances. The staff refused to work with us at all, threatened to send the account to collections, and were rude and dismissive. They even suggested asking our family for money, which felt inappropriate and insensitive. While the doctors themselves have been good in the past, the office staff's lack of empathy, abrupt communication, and unwillingness to offer a payment plan made an already stressful situation worse. Some staff members may be inexperienced or nervous, but that does not excuse the overall lack of support. This is a follow-up to a previous review. After I posted this review I got a phone call from the medical director. At first she sounded like she wanted to know my concerns, when I started to explain she interrupted to reiterate their stance. I explained to her I already know her stance because I read their form regarding their stance. She proceeded to tell me that she was handling the paperwork to remove us from the practice. I asked her very clearly three times if she was telling me that because of my review we could no longer be patients at that office. Instead of me taking my time to find a new office she was actually removing my three children as patients. I had been taking my son in for some stomach problems and not only did they kick him out of the office but they never called to give me the lab results. This office decided that it was more important to seek revenge then to ensure that my son got the care that he needed. After 16 years a disagreent with how they're handling vaccinations and I get a phone call that I am no longer allowed to take my children to their office. I have never been more disgusted with a business practice. As a professional I can see so many better ways that they could have handled this. Why would you not call and hear my concerns and express that you hope that I have been happy with everything else in that office for the past 16 years. Why would you not express some care for my children that you were supposedly caring for for the last 16 years? Why would you not try to win my business back? Apparently vaccinations are the hill that they are willing to die on. Again quick reminder all of my children are fully vaccinated so this had nothing to do with safety. They were not concerned about other children and did not remove us from their office because of immunosuppressed kids, my kids are fully vaccinated. This office made the choice to remove my children as patients and no longer allow them to go there because I disagreed with their handling have a very sensitive topic. First concern - lack of professionalism - this was my daughter's 15 year old check up. During the appointment the provider wanted to complete a physical exam, the provider was very awkward/unclear of what she was needing my daughter to do and that caused my daughter to feel extremely uncomfortable. The experience with the provider overall was odd, the provider was very animated and while the behavior would have been appreciated with a 2 year old patient, I feel like for a 15 year old it was borderline weird. 2nd concern- after the appointment I was contacted by their billing department stating I had a balance. Knowing my benefits, I questioned any balance since our well care is covered at 100%. The staff then proceeded to tell me that the provider had ordered labs and was therefore able to add additional billing which triggered patient responsibility being assigned to the claim. I clearly expressed to the staff that this was an error and we had zero concerns going into the appointment and this was not coded correctly. During this contact I also expressed my concerns with the providers interactions with my daughter. I received a callback from someone in billing stating I have to pay and they did not bill incorrectly. I asked for a callback back and never got one regarding the provider. This appointment was months ago, I just got a call today from their billing department stating I was being sent to collections. I asked for a callback from a supervisor to address my clinic and billing concerns. The staff member Kayla was extremely unhelpful and rude, she confirmed that the owners were aware of my concerns since they had reviewed them during my initial call. I never received a follow up or correspondence after their "review". At this point I feel like I am being harassed and they are making a desperate attempt at a money grab by inappropriately and incorrectly billing patients. We switched to Banner for her care and we love it, that was the only good thing to come out of this experience. I highly recommend seeking care for your children elsewhere. read more

Since having my baby, he has only been seen at Desert Shores Pediatrics. We have had multiple visits with Dr Grant who has done a wonderful job at getting us seen in a quick fashion, listening to our concerns and questions, and informing us of milestones. We did have to wait a while for one of our appointments, but that is to be expected to a certain degree with doctor's visits. I don't love waiting, but I appreciate that the doctors spend the necessary time with their patients when needed because one day we may need a longer appointment too. The front office staff is friendly and helpful and the back office staff is competent and quick. Overall, we have had a wonderful experience with this practice and will continue to bring our kids here. read more

Hi Christie, I appreciate your long response outlining your reasoning for not accepting patients without immunizations, but you are aware that state law prevents discrimination against parents choosing to not vaccinate due to philosophical, religious or medical reasons right? After speaking with your front desk and determining an exemption for religious beliefs is not accepted at your office I was taken aback and decided not to associate myself with a medical professional who is so blatantly discriminatory. I hope other current patients or potential new patients are aware of how your office judges and makes a determination about someone based on their vaccine status. read more

I waited at least a year to write this review to be as accurate as possible. Our kids see April and she is absolutely amazing. We have been to a few pediatricians and this office by far exceeds our expectations. I feel the ratings for this office are not an accurate depiction as most negative reviews are about vaccinations. If you are anti-vaccinations, then this is not your place. They are reasonable about a vaccination schedule that meets your needs (ie delayed vaccination) from what I have seen. They practice evidence based care which is much appreciated. I am a native to AZ and not sure when a large population here decided to make vaccinations political but sure glad Desert Shores leaves politics out of it and just supports science and evidence based medicine. Desert Shores has been quick to get us in when needed and has many options open to always work with our schedule. We've been seeing April Resop FNP for the past two year and have had an excellent experience. She truly cares for kids and families she works with. She wants to hear what the parents have to say. We've had some odd things pop up with our kids and April has always been quick to respond to us or get us to the proper provider. She always provides great advice to help us as parents and the health of our children. Highly recommend! read more

We have been going to the chandler location for our pediatric needs and we love it out there. The doctors are really great and we have always had good visits. Recently our kid was sick and since there was no availability at chandler location we had to schedule one in Gilbert with a PCP and not a doctor. Our experience was not that great, the nurse was so busy, she didnt have the time to diagnose, nor check or talk to us on what was going on, we were in and out in 5 minutes. They charge the same amount whether a doctor or nurse. Then, why would anyone see a PCP. I left a review about my experience and the representative called us and was so rude - she told that since we don't believe in the facility anymore they are releasing the kids and said good luck finding one. This came as a shock, she didn't bother to solve the issue or help us out but was ready to let us go. I took down the review and told her that it's not the experience with the doctors but the nurse itself. It didn't matter, they had decided for us and we didn't want to go either after all this. They sent a letter to us to start looking for a different pediatrician, ofcourse we would, good luck with your facility who doesn't care or acknowledge the problem but want to get rid of the patients. This rating is mainly for the facility & the nurse we saw and not the doctors. Doctors are really good & wish we get to see them outside of this facility. read more

This morning, I called to make my 12 year old son an appointment for blood in his urine after being a patient here for 8 years. They asked if he had his 6th grade booster vaccine yet. I said no. Then asked if I would be willing to get the vaccine today. I also said no because I wanted to make sure there was no infection. The receptionist then put me on hold and when she got back on the phone said they had to drop us as patients because he wasn't getting that vaccine. Mind you he is fully vax'd. This place pushes vaccines for a money grab. Thanks for turning us away when we needed you the most. I WILL NEVER GO BACK. If you are looking for a pediatrician go elsewhere. read more

Desert Shores Pediatrics is an amazing practice. They care very deeply for my child and have a wonderful office staff. I am proud that they follow the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics and protect vulnerable children in our communities. My son has several chronic issues that they manage and they've always gotten us in when needed. We go to both the Chandler and Gilbert offices and usually see Dr. Nason and Stacey, but all of their providers are great. I highly recommend them. read more

Run, do not walk to a different pediatrician's office. They will bill insurance for portions of appointments they DO NOT EVEN TRY TO ATTEMPT. I have spent MONTHS trying to get a "little" charge taken off that they had already submitted to insurance! They have also inputted demographics wrong, again resulting in a fight to get corrected. When a provider leaves the office, you are not notified or told-simply put on with a different provider and if YOU don't ask, chances are you won't know until you show up. It is never an easy or pleasant experience. There is no integrity or accountability. IN RESPONSE TO THE REPLY: BILLING INSURANCE FOR SERVICES NOT ATTEMPTED OR RENDERED AND HAVING DR. HOLMES TRY TO SAY I AM READING MY EOB INCORRECTLY AND MISUNDERSTANDING MY INSURANCE IS NOT OKAY. YOU DO NOT SUBMIT TO INSURANCE ON A SERVICE THAT WAS NEVER ATTEMPTED. You have been wrong from the very beginning and would not answer a VERY simple and straightforward question of "were you in the exam room, yes or no?". YOU are the one telling patients the entirety incorrect information and TJE BILLING DEPARTMENT-which you through under the bus in multiple voicemails to myself and my husband. You have NEVER spoken or interacted with my husband yet the voicemail you left was nasty. Dr Christie Holmes, you have absolutely NO business being in medical care, let alone over seeing care for CHILDREN. I have worked insurance. I have also been an employee with your company-you absolutely should have paid closer attention to details-I am well aware of the absolute disorganized chaos it is. As well as the high turn over rate. It's a shame you don't focus your energy and efforts into running a productive and helpful pediatric practice, instead of replying to reviews telling patients they are wrong when it is very very obvious you have no idea what actually went on in an exam room yoy were never in. Beyond frustrated with there new patient policy. Babies are unpredictable and sometimes parents run late no matter how much they plan ahead. We were 4 min late to our appointment and the front desk checked us in and we were called the back before some blonde lady decided we were too late and needed to cancel the appointment. I love all of the providers and having two locations is very helpful. However, I have been at this practice for over 7 years and they have always had issues with taking calls. Whenever you call you are immediately put on hold and consistently waiting for some time. Just this morning I had a 17 minute wait. I have considered leaving the practice multiple times because of this issue but the providers are good enough to make me stay. I understand being understaffed for some time but over 7 years is a long time to have this issue and seems like it isn't something they are even considering an issue at this point. read more

Their immunization policy is out of touch. Many people go there so they have choices on how to vaccinate their children. Not accepting new patients that don't fit their mold, and making it difficult on the patients that have been going there for years is ridiculous. My children are patients at the Gilbert location and we have had nothing but good experiences. They always have openings for sick visits and fit us in. They run on schedule (no 20 min waiting room times) and have moved stuff around accommodate us running a few minutes late. We have seen several staff members including our regular DR - Dr Kipp. Every staff member has been supportive and taken time to answer any questions we have and has given us top tier quality care. Dr Kipp took the time to explain things to my 7 y/o in terms he would understand about his allergies. I would recommend this practice. read more

Not only do they NOT read a review properly and respond accordingly, they are not a together office. lol laughable at best. My review CLEARLY stated I am not anti vaccine. However your response would lead people to believe that I am. As for scientific studies, they show African American boys are the most adversely affected by vaccines. My son is black. An alternative schedule was chosen bc black boys who get certain vaccines at the "recommended" ages cause adverse reactions and should be given later on. If you're stating you don't get incentivized for this policy say that clearly. Also, when a NEW patient calls the 1st time to establish care with your practice, have well trained people taking those calls so they can explain your policy upfront. I received a call a day before my scheduled appointment with you all. When I asked why this was not disclosed when setting up the appointment I got I don't know for an answer. When I asked why your practice had this policy I was also told IDK by your front office person. She stated the owner would have to answer that. If it's truly bc you care for your patients the clearly post it's not due to invectives and that you do not currently receive or plan to receive incentives from insurance companies to force medical care. read more

Made an appointment with Desert shores for my daughter to be seen. They took my insurance info and said I was covered. Went to the appt and was seen by great NP's. I have no complaints about the service of the medical team. Left the office with no bill because they were sending to my insurance. Months later I get the entire bill because they are not contracted with my insurance and then because of that they wont refer my daughter to the specialist any longer for the care she needed. I've always been able to get an appointment in a timely manner and staff is great. On our last visit, we all had a laugh. I brought my youngest in because her schools nurse had called to let me know of an incident at school. They thought my daughter may have a fractured hand because it was swollen really bad. I brought her in that same day with the first available opening. After examining her, it was apparent that she actually had a bug bite. Lol!! This location is close to home, as well as school. We were referred to Desert Shores Pediatrics by a friend and we have been nothing but happy with their front desk service and the quality of doctors. I would not go to this place! Getting anything done there is ridiculous! The doctor who wrote my daughter's prescription allowed her DEA to expire, and now here we are on Sunday and I can't get her prescription filled. When I called the after houses line, they say because it's it adderall they won't do anything over the weekend! What a bunch of BS! Very disappointed. I called to make an appt, advised front desk what I needed specifically for my child. They advised we would need to schedule for a full physical. So we did. Once we got in the doctor told us she does not work in the field of what we had wanted and that I would have to reschedule with someone who does. So not only did I waste time from work, but now I'm having to pay for a visit that we literally got nothing out of. Literally nothing. The doctor said she apologizes for the staffs mistake in scheduling with her, and that's great but unfortunately it's going to be me stuck paying for a visit due to the front office mistake. They don't respect parents and their wishes to delay or set their own timeline. Desert Shores is awesome, top shelf, truly. We moved to Gilbert in June 2018 and were able to get into the Chandler location though we live very near to the Gilbert location. Dr. Van Tassel is a rockstar. She connected w/ our son immediately, like they've known each-other for years. She demonstrated significant expertise in managing his higher level needs which go well beyond the average kid. The staff have gotten us in same day when they can, and have been trained well and most always have a great attitude. So grateful to have found Desert Shores. The Beitz family read more
