Desert Shores Community is in the northwest part of Las Vegas. I come here very often because the community is very beautiful with lakes and parks, and many restaurants. I love eating in the restaurants here, with amazing lakeside views. Also, I love walking around the lakeside, or take a break, and simply sit down on the benches right on the shore. Beautiful area to sit by the ducks with our Maltese who could sit for hours and watch the ducks swim. Unfortunately, a woman who came over to where we were sitting started feeding the ducks and pigeons disregarding posted statements prohibiting such. She told us we had to move our dog away from where she was feeding the ducks as it was scaring them back into the water. Mind you my dog had been there over an hour and had never approached or scared any ducks into the water. This duck lady claimed I was responsible if a lame duck got a necrotic leg and died because it couldn't get to her food as a lame duck was being targeted by other ducks. We were 30 feet away so we just turned our backs to her and ignored her but, dang, where's the HOA when crazy duck ladies try to chase you out of "her" duck area? read more

05/28/23 came here for a graduation party at their club. Nice man made lagoon. You need to be a resident to enter premises unless there is a party that you were invited to. Lifeguards present. You get to enjoy the paddle boats, kayak, and paddle boards as well. Club house is clean and nice. They have a small kitchen to cook, microwave, and store food in fridge. All in all quality is there, I'm sure HOA fees is up there to keep up with the care. Definitely a value for the residents!! Awesome staff! Note: upon entering you need to check in after the gate, staff is present to check for some sort of ID that you are a resident or your name on the list . Happy sun bathing !!! read more

Excellent community if you enjoy seeing the water and taking long walks. Feels safe anytime of day or night. People come here to walk, jog, bring their kids and dogs. It is a great place to live. Minus 1 star for the HOA's, although Ive never heard anyone rave about how great an HOA is. Everyone always complains about them. Beware the abundant amount of Karens that roam the area.. The views are always serene and it's definitely a hidden jewel inside Las Vegas. The only issue I have is the water. I wish the water was less smelly. I am going to be the one to write an honest review, even though it will mean that my investment in a home in Desert Shores will depreciate as a result. This community association is severely mismanaged. If you buy a home anywhere in Desert Shores, they will add the Desert Shores fee on top of the HOA monthly. They say it will cover amenities such as lagoon, borrowing boats and stuff. But the opening hours as posted on the web page are not the actual ones. To borrow a boat for example requires the staff to walk you to where the boats are and make sure you wear a life vest (even if you are an adult). Which is hard work for them, they usually just sit around and check their phones (even when customers are talking to them). So a manager named Brian, with an unknown last name (he probably doesnt even exist, he is not listed on the website anyway) is used as an excuse. Today when the temperatures are finally down, they blamed "wind" and "security" as reasons why you may not borrow a boat. I attached a photo of the lake, judge by yourselves, it does not have waves and by the looks of the water the local wind speed at the lake is around a normal 6 MPH! They probably used the wind speed measured at Lake Mead or the airport, but needless to say these lakes are small and surrounded by palm trees and houses, so it rarely gets windy there, and neither it was windy today. Everyone in Desert Shores hates them and for good reasons, and the recent kindness campaign did not change that. There is an election coming up so we are hoping for change and restitution payments. The current leadership are currently having their pet landscaping firms digging up all the turf in Desert Shores as a revenge against its unhappy members, with the excuse that turf consumes water which is precious in Las Vegas only due to the political decision of water routing at Flaming Gorge thus leaving Lake Mead and the rest of the lower Colorado River system short of water. Homeless people living out of cars have recently begun to increase because the security has been instructed not to intervene against them, and at the same time home invasions and theft has skyrocketed, but if a member parks their car at the same street they DO intervene. It is only a matter of time before this lenient policy on crime will become even more known on the street, and Desert Shores will turn into an encampment. If you want somewhere calm and peaceful to call home, Desert Shores is not that place. read more

First time I actually enjoyed this serene place, even though I pass it on a regular basis. I see people laying here catching some sun, reading a book, painting, etc. Come December and I am here for a get together that my husband took me and our 11 year old to. Parking was easy and staff were nice and friendly. Grounds are well maintained and the ducks abundant. They kept the 3 of us busy and entertained while enjoying the view. Possibly the nicest spot in Vegas. As another reviewer noted, it's a great place to forget you're in Vegas. Oops! Should I have said that? Sacrilege! Doesn't everyone think Vegas is the greatest place on Earth, by far? Beauty aside, this is a great place to observe human stupidity at its best, starting with the shitheads who feed the birds in spite of signage you can't ignore. Maybe they don't understand English. A school bus driver even parked his bus (not short) to toss treats to the birds. Walking dogs off leash: An excited puppy jumped into the lake to chase a bird and nearly drowned. The owner doffed her shoes and waded in after the pooch. I'm sure she thought it was cute. And why not walk the adorable pooch off leash--It's just a puppy! Dog walkers steer their terriers toward the birds so they can lunge and nip at birds, driving them from the banks and into the water. They think it's funny. Then there are the poor goose families trying to cross the road. One lady stood in front of them holding up her phone to get a tasteful shot. The apprehensive geese turned back. The lady pulled this stunt twice. The reason geese need to cross the road is to get a break from scrofulous tormentors The list goes on. Any time you visit this bastion of serenity you will encounter stupidity beyond belief except no display of stupidity is surprising. Angry residents barreling down Mariner Drive will honk you out if you slow to avoid a goose. Oh, and of course no one minds a Harley or hot rod blasting the peace with roaring tailpipes. How about letting your kids chase the birds and bunnies? Oops, I shouldn't have mentioned the bunnies. Parents reading this may seek out the bunnies for their kids to harass. Please just leave 'em be--no need to touch, pet, scare, feed, or otherwise interfere with their gambols. If you want to play with animals, go to a petting zoo. Swans have become an endangered species at Desert Shores. The entire community is aghast that some sicko would kill a swan with a bow & arrow. Was it a thrill kill or stupidity? I believe many people do not understand that these are living creatures, not fixtures in a Disneyland attraction. To save their lives, the owner of the swans wants to move the birds elsewhere. A couple years back, an adult swan, two babies, and three ducks were slaughtered by an underage offender who was letting off steam after his love life went sideways. Desert Shores Community is a great spot to walk, run, bike, or socialize with ducks and geese. I run or bike here from my house often and I like the wide bike lanes that wind around the lakes here. There are huge trees for shade on hot days. There are ducks that meander around, not just at the water's edge, but you'll find them crossing the streets, too, so look out! It's a popular area for people of all ages doing their daily walks with dogs or each other, too. You can enter the community at several places including: - Lake Mead Blvd. at Mariner Drive (near Buca di Beppo) - Lake Mead Blvd. at Harbor Island Drive (near Nevada State Bank) - Buffalo Dr. and Regatta Dr. (across the street from Babystacks Cafe) The lake usually has kids feeding ducks and people fishing. There are benches for one to sit and enjoy the scenery. I highly recommend this area if you want to enjoy some time outdoors with scenic views, to commune with water fowl, and to get your heart rate up. read more

Great neighborhood park surrounding the lake- Terri's review gives more detailed info about how to find it, but it's surprisingly large with a good trail. Perfect for running, jogging, and walking, with or without a dog. Good spot for photos, too. Watch out for the ducks while in the area, as they are sometimes in the street. We went to the pond where there's ducks and a park. Tried to get a bit of fresh air since the weather was finally cooling down. It's really pretty, but it was a little difficult to have a picnic there since they had no tables and chairs. The side walk and grass were filthy from all of the duck poop, so we had to be careful where we sat. The park area was nice. Overall, some maintenance would work. read more

I'm Extremely disappointed and disgusted with the personal of the rental club house specially women named KELLE Alvarez. We rented out the club house for my husbands 50 bday party and they told us to be done by 12 . I have to add that they won't even set up chairs or tables for you . You have to do all that by yourself and they want you to put all the chairs tables folded on the rail they provide they want you to mop the floor turn the place spotless . So by 12 we were done cleaning all the place spotless we went to look for the guy that supposed to check us out and he was no where to be found after 15 min he showed up saying he was in the bathroom . He started looking around and we asked him how the garbage disposal works and he said he doesn't know and he went to get somebody else . He came back after another 7 min bringing another girl and after waisting another 5 min they said they don't know how it works . Then they went outside and made us move all the trash bags from where they told us previously to put in the morning to carry them one by one in their dump stairs which was their duty to do . By then now it's 12:30 and the guy asks for tip and saying he would help us out which I didn't understand what it means . So we signed a paper and I even gave him a tip which he didn't deserve after signing the paper . Then in the morning I get a call from the most rudest unprofessional person that I ever encountered name KELLE ALVAREZ and she asked for 100 $ fine for being 30 min late . I tried to explained what has happened and we were done by 12 and she said she doesn't care and was very rude to me . I told her I want to talk to Manenger and every time she answered the phone told me he is not in the office . I have to address that she is the one that manages the club house rental . Then they cashed the check for 500 security deposit without my permission and without giving me a benefit of doubt and and talk to their staff regarding that night . I'm not a type of person to write reviews but I have been so poorly so unprofessionally treated by them that I felt a need to write a review . After talking to few people that rented out the club house I realized they had the same experience I will try to ask them to voice their review so hopefully the management would change their staffing and how they treat people . I have lived in this community for 5 years and occasionally take my family to the lagoon. On Saturday we were enjoying the sun and the Lifeguards on duty were watching the children play in the water when out of the corner of my eye the Lifeguard jumped right in to save a little girl that was in distress!!! The place is nice to ride your bike or walk, run. Until you're with your kids (6 yr old on a bike and a 3 yr old in tow) riding up to a stop sign and an impatient man in white convertible BMW fails to stop at the stop sign that I'm about to cross with my kids! I'm shocked and I say "nice stop jerk" and he shouts out as loud as he can "shut up bitch!" Who does that. People with a little bit of money have no respect. read more
