The staff were friendly but it felt ominous. I had to ask for a menu, and I got a beer, an IPA. They do not have an extensive menu and did not have their liquor on the menu. It was a weird place, it looks like a dive but it acts like a sports bar. Not a fan.

I at first thought my husband had unexpectedly left a large tip, but I checked their menu again and saw that it says "For dine in service only: When your bill arrives, it will have a 20% service charge added to the subtotal. This we use to compensate our staff as they deserve for their exceptional work. As such no additional gratuity is expected." I have of course seen this practice done at full service restaurants, but I wasn't expecting this for a café visit simply because we chose to sit and drink our coffees there instead of taking them to go. Also, regarding the music, the 'TouchTunes' app is supported here. Both sides are small and intimate but as the evening turns to night, they fill up with great people and energy. Both bars are fully stocked and have some amazing staff who are more than capable of meeting the beverage demand. Add to that, the prices are just right. Note, they do not serve food but outside food is welcome. Nestled in West Town on the corner of what appears to be a very chill neighborhood, Damen Bar should be on everyone's list to check out.
