I had an eye exam at Desert eye care center. They explained that they needed to dilate my eyes, but it could take up to 6 hours. Or they could take a picture but it cost 39.00 over my insurance. Of course I paid and had the picture. Then they told me my insurance covers 250.00 for just the frames. I called my insurance co, and they told me it is for the lenses and the frames. I called Desert eye care to verify my insurance only covers frames. They lied and cheated out of 39.00. I don't recommended them..... read more

My allergies were bad! Like take my eyeballs out and rinse them off and put back in. The doctors at Desert EyeCare center got me back on my feet in a day. The front desk was amazing to work with and even though they were busy they were attentive and easy to work with. I highly recommend them!!! read more

The so called opticians are not properly trained. They don't adjust your glasses unless you the patient feels it needs it. They don't understand progressives and how they need to be lined up properly to see. They only know how to sell. There's no proper follow through care. This office really knows how to take advantage of seniors. You make an appointment and then when you come in they don't use your insurance but constantly bills Medicare when they don't need to. And when you confront them with the situation they deny it and to keep you quiet they'll refund your money. But my husband put them in their place. That's why I went somewhere and came out way cheaper because they took my insurance. We will no longer step foot in this office again and watch out seniors they don't let them take advantage of you too!!!!! read more

Have gone to this Dr.'s office many times as they are local in Arizona. Have had issues every single time. Only reason we had continued to go back was because of one of the doctors there, but they let her go and now there's nothing positive about this place. The basics: 1 of the staff here is non stop rude. If you call, walk in, have an appointment, don't have an appointment but want to make one, have a question, anything, she's rude, makes no effort to be inviting/welcoming, is snarky, projects that any and all issues are your fault because you did it wrong. ZERO customer service skill, and this is energy interaction I've had with her. She must be a relative of the owner and thus must not give a shit about their customers because she's been there for years and I've witnessed her being rude with others and the doctor being made aware. They get a zero for customer service. Then you have another woman who's a glasses technician. Won't allow you to shop without trying to force suggestions and styles on you. She's pushy, won't listen, wastes your time trying to get you to try things on that you don't like and won't leave you alone for more than 5 minutes. They have horrible brands and a very slim/minuscule selection of what they advertise that have have. If you see a section of glasses (roughly 40-50 pairs) with "coach" over it, there are approximately 12 pairs that are actually coach. Mostly filler brands you've never heard that don't last. The details: If you go for just an eye exam, meaning you don't intend to get glasses or contacts form them and have insurance, they hold the remainder of your benefits hostage. This is the only optometrist office I have ever seen do this and it's happened on 4 separate occasions. They place a hold/claim on your lens/glasses benefits and when you call to have it removed, you either have to argue with them to remove it or educate them on what they'd re doing wrong. They it takes days for them to release it. When I've told them proactively not to place hold, knowing they've done it in the past, they've assured they won't, but still do then back to square one on arguing or educating. This office just either doesn't know what they are doing, or, more likely they know exactly what they are doing and are shady as hell. read more

I'm disgusted and disappointed at the staff of Desert Eyecare Center of Maricopa. The care coordinator Lauree was uncaring and rude. I had an 920am appt, I arrived at 926. I did not fill out paperwork prior to visit. I figure it's less than 5 minutes of paperwork. Back story, I work midnights, disable adult son, I must prepare for day and cook snd set him up for breakfast. For this coordinator to JUST INTERRUPT my communication with Yesenia was rude and lacked professionalism. "She states is that Denise Blanks, her appt was at 920 and she didn't fill out paperwork. She needs to reschedule." Extremely lacked care concern or grace. Do better! I dont think Dr Lawrence would appreciate your rude abrupt reply to a potential customer. Ather reading the reviews, I see this is an ONGOING PROBLEM lacking grace and understanding when patrons arrive under the 15 minute late time frame. Even see the dishonesty with staff saying it's was 15 minutes late, but it's actually under 10 minutes. As I've stated, my time was 6- 7 minutes ather 920 appt. It's audacity to give staff coordinators that much power, it seems to be an example of abuse of power. Maybe Dr Lawrence should start recruiting new staff coordinators. I cannot say enough good things about this place. Every interaction I had from initial phone call to picking up my glasses was just so kind. Every staff person I interacted with was knowledgeable, helpful, and kind. The doctor was young, but don't let that fool you. He was very up to date on his profession. I have some above average eye issues and he was able to walk me through the exam and testing. State of the art equipment! After reading the reviews, I almost didn't make an appointment. And the extra $35 dollars for a picture of the inside of your eye not covered by insurance also made me pause and think. The ladies at the front desk were kind and helpful, the service was fast and Dr. Curtis (looks very young) knows his craft and was able to show me the inside of my eye and answer all my questions. Joanna helped me pick a great pair of new glasses and the whole process took about an hour. So far - Great customer service, inviting warm space, text notification of appointments and updates. I have been a patient here for almost 7 years, I use to love this office but lately, it's like a zoo in here. Employees are constantly telling inside jokes to each other making the office extremely loud with exaggerated laughter the entire visit, I've had to wait over 45 min to be seen by a dr the last few visits and the Drs just seem so all over the place. I understand having a good time at work but this is also a place of business with patients, it's not just employees in the office, clearly the professionalism is going down the drain on all fronts. I wish I can give this place a negative rating. Kelly Lawrence does not even deserve a 1 star. I do not typically comment but I am so disappointed with Desert Eye Care I felt I have to leave a review about our our appt went today. Our experience is in contrast to our first visit in 2018. The ladies upfront are always professional and amazing. I had itchy throat and was constantly clearing my throat. Alma offered a mask which I gladly took. I work in a hospital and I didn't take offense. She said the Doctor has young kids and is always concerned with infection. When we got into one of the rooms, we probably waited at least 3 or less minutes for the dr to come in. It was a dead afternoon, we were the only people there. When Kelly Lawrence came in, she looked at me through the cracked door and asked if I want to be rescheduled. It puzzled me in the first few seconds but then I suddenly remembered what the ladies upfront said. I said No. that I prefer you continue with the appt as I took out my son specifically for this matter. And that if it would make her feel much better that I step out, I will do that. She said, well, you will make other patients sick. WOW! BEDSIDE MANNER OF THIS DR IS DOWN THE DRAIN. SHE SHOULD HAVE SAID, I HAVE KIDS AND YOU WILL MAKE THEM SICK. HEALTHCARE IS THE WRONG PROFESSION FOR FOR YOU, DOCTOR. Do not use other reasons that are not even valid. Like I said we were the only patients there and I had a mask on. She then proceeded with the examination very briskly and briefly. I mean, we were done so fast you can't even believe it. I've been to eyes appts and if the Dr is thorough, it would take at least 10 minutes. We were there for less than that. I was furious. I had a mask on and I tried to not even clear my throat in respect of her wishes. But my God, you are in healthcare. IF YOU DONt WANT TO SEE COUGHING PATIENTS THEN DO NOT PRACTICE THIS SEASON. OR MAYBE ADD A DISCLAIMER DURING SCHEDULING THAT KELLY LAWRENCE DO NOT WANT TO SEE PATIENTS WITH RESPIRATORY ISSUES. SUCH A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY. WORST CARE! I WOULD NEVER GO BACK TO THIS PLACE (even if Dr Thimesch is the best and would surely make up for Lawrence's lackluster performance) AND WOULD ADVISE ANYBODY AGAINST THIS PLACE. GO SOMEWHERE YOU ARE APPRECIATED AND RESPECTED BY PROVIDERS. I could not wait to pay and get out of the place. It is the worst clinic experience I've ever had. She said that in the past, she had family members that got hospitalized because of the flu. OR IS THE ONLY PRECAUTION YOU KNOW IS TO SEND HOME THE PATIENT AFTER THEY'VE BEEN SCHEDULED and are actually in your office??? Please, not me. You didn't try to convince me on your email and honestly I am not too surprised of your reasoning either. It just make me repaint much more worst picture of what you are as a provider. Our daughter needed to have her glasses adjusted, and we purchased them in Chandler, quite a drive for a two second tweaking of some plastic. I noticed online that Desert EyeCare would adjust anyone's glasses--as a service to the community! How nice is that! No wait, no problem, just great service. I have been a patient for almost two years and Angel the receptionist there had ALWAYS been an unfriendly employee. I'm always surprised to see her there since she's always rude, and wonder why she's still employed. Well this morning was the final straw! My husband sent in my sons glasses in for repair a few weeks ago and then for new lenses. We hadn't received a call that they were ready and my husband called in last Thursday to inquire about them. Someone in the office told him they would be there on Monday. Well it's now Friday so I called in to check on the status. I am a bit upset because if they didn't come in on Monday then I should've been notified and advised about an updated status. Angel answered and said she would look up his chart, she got back on the phone and said immediately "Cara was working on this and the only note that is in here is that his glasses came in broken and they were sent back". First of all, you do not throw your co worker under the bus! She was probably trying to take the heat off herself and blame it on someone else, it doesn't matter, I am the customer, you are supposed to empathize with the customer, explain the situation, and find out a way to get some answers! I asked her why we didn't get a call about this and she said she didn't know Cara was working on this, and she said this with an attitude of course. And said she wasn't in the office, I asked her why she didn't call us, as an office or a business rather you need to communicate with your customers, she said "Like I said, Cara was working on this so I don't know". This is ridiculous, this is not how a business should be ran. I asked to speak to the manager because I didn't like the way she was speaking to me she then said " Cara isn't here today, she is the office manager!" I told her I need to know a status on his glasses she said " I don't know when they will be in, I guess I can call them let you know when I find out" I told here I needed to know today, she said " it's short staff today so I can call you whenever I can". I don't care if the office is short staff, I am the customer, the office failed me, and I need to be notified ASAP. If she would've approached this situation differently then I would have understood completely but her demeanor was disgusting so I angry! I've been in customer service for almost 15 years and I do not see how she is the face of the office. Sorry they lost customers today. I will be give Cara a call on Monday! And if she doesn't care either well that will definitely be a shame for this city to have a company like that in it. read more

I have eyesight that changes throughout the day due to radial keratotomy and LASIK. I tried several other eye doctors in Maricopa and was very disappointed. I came here and was telling the doctor that I use my old computer glasses (continuum lenses) after my eyes have gotten worse, and use them as everyday glasses because progressives just don't work for me. He mentioned that there was a new way of making glasses that might work for me, and he was right. Usually I get new glasses, and I feel like I'm walking up stairs because they seem like they're so strong, but these glasses were perfect the first day. I didn't have to "get used to them". I can see far away, and also see my dashboard while I'm driving, and I don't have to change glasses. I'm very excited that I found a new eye doctor. read more

Dr Lawrence is the most knowledgeable eye doctor I have ever had an experience with. She was able to diagnose a medical issue I had which eventually had to be corrected with surgery. I credit her with saving the vision in one of my eyes. I have always found her and the entire practice to be very professional and ethical. Her staff is amazing - Stephanie knew me by name even though I hadn't been in for about 6 months. Cara is very patient with eyeglass fitting and frame selection. When I decided to switch from monovision contact lenses to multi-focal, Dr. Lawrence took her time in ensuring that the lenses I got provided the best results for me. The office is professional yet casual, if that makes sense. The atmosphere and decor is something sorely needed here in Maricopa.
