This review has no reflection on Dr's. The front desk operates efficiently but need to learn the importance of a caring respectful way of engaging customers. They are mire like drill sergeants than kindly serving their customers. When the nurses called to tell me my husband's procedures were complete she only instructed me to bring g the car around in 15 mins. I asked her if the Dr. was meeting with my husband to which she said yes. She should have asked if I wanted to be there. Patients are groggy and may not ask questions nor remember. My husband and I both had colonoscopies with Dr. Mann. We were both nervous. I especially had a lot of anxiety. The staff at this center along with Dr. Mann were wonderful and comforting. Wife came in for a colonoscopy so all I can review is the front office staff. They were all friendly to everyone that came through. And A LOT of people came through the doors while I waited for her procedure. The only thing I can say negative thus far is that the front desk is a little loud with checking people in. While I could care less some people might be a little embarrassed at the staff announcing/asking if you're there for a colonoscopy. Not that they are talking super loud it is just that the place is very open and all surfaces are hard (tile floor, hard counters, hard walls, etc) so it conducts sound well. read more

I received a colonoscopy from a provider through Desert Endoscopy Center about a year ago. Everything seemed to go well in terms of care during appointments and responsiveness from front-end staff. Everyone seemed great. The couple months after seemed great too. I paid all the bills I received and had a representative from billing assure me that I was paid in full and that any other bills that I might receive in the mail just simply hadn't reflected the updated payments I had made. The issue occurred about 8 to 10 months later. I began re-receiving a bill that had been previously communicated to me was paid off by a credit card payment I had made. It was a small sum ($65.25) considering everything. I also began receiving calls from a member of their billing department, and automated texts, threatening to send me to collections if not paid promptly. After some phone tag, I finally got a chance to speak to the billing rep., and I explained my previous conversations with billing. She assured me she would look into it and get back to me with some clarity about what was going on within a week. She never followed up. I've tried calling multiple times to get in touch, left a couple messages, but again -- totally ghosted. What's weird is that our initial conversation didn't seem tense at all. I just kinda explained what had happened, and she said she'd look into it. Today, I received a "Final Notice" to pay the bill or that it'll be sent to collections. I don't see any communication from them on the issue beyond sending these automated messages. At best, it seems unprofessional. At worst, unethically trying to cover up a basic clerical error. What's particularly frustrating is that I've tried to communicate to them that I'm willing to pay the amount if it really is something I owed. But if this is how they handle a minor clerical error for $65.25, I'd strongly suggest exercising caution in using their services, as many procedures can cost a lot more than that. It's totally possible, from my experience, that people are being double-billed and sent to collections for sums much higher than that. -- Update -- I had a chance to speak with a patient advocate from my insurance company today. After she reviewed everything, she confirmed that there was no bill they received on their end that aligned with the amount ($62.25) I was forced to pay, and my insurance company couldn't figure out where that bill was coming from either. There was one line item for a couple dollars less ($63.12, I think) that might be what Desert Endoscopy Center was referencing (original amount + interest). But my insurance company confirmed that it billing me for that amount would have been an error based on the terms of my insurance coverage. So there's good evidence I was threatened with being sent to collections for a billing error on Desert Endoscopy Center's end. It seems like I was either double-billed or billed for a mistaken charge, and Desert Endoscopy Center simply threatened to damage my credit without being responsive when I tried to figure out what was going on with the bill. read more

From check in, to everything in between was amazing and caring. The nursing staff are very caring and were on the ball from being taken back to leaving the facility. I arrived at 8am for 8.30am check in. We were not sure how traffic would be. I believe there was a cancellation so I was taken back very quick. You will not see your companion until you leave. Masks are required no big deal. I had Dr Mann do my colonoscopy he is a very kind man and listens to you. The prep is the worst, I just took my I Pad to the bathroom and camped out in there. One piece of advice is follow your prep instructions as you need a clean colon, do not miss a step of the instructions. There were a few who had not done this. My only concern was there was only 1 toilet to use in an emergency. You had to ask reception for another and they had to escort you. I can highly recommend Dr Mann and Desert Endoscopy. read more

I had two procedures recently done, at Desert Endoscopy Center. Check in was fast, the lady at the front desk was polite, and all the nurses and caregivers were very nice and helpful. While I was waiting for the medical transport, a nurse even brought me over some warm blankets, to cover up with. I will definitely use this facility again. read more

So then, before I re-made my appointment, I had a list of questions which they refused to answer. I feel it necessary to share my recent experience there. Although the staff and doctor were extremely professional and cordial, while there for my colonoscopy last month. I found out from the doctor right after my procedure that my colon wasn't cleaned out properly. And that they'd need me to return to redo the whole thing, to view the 40% of the colon he was unable to see; that my prep wasn't complete. Being on disability, I've tried hard to get them to waive my copay, in having the whole procedure done over again. But in being on the phone with my insurance AND them at the same time, it seems to come down to them blaming me for not doing the prep correctly, even though I followed their exact instructions, and the morning of my procedure I called in and told them my stool was still coming out, they said that was somewhat expected, and to COME IN ANYWAY! Maybe I should have trusted my own judgment and not gone for the procedure that morning, but I will not be using Desert Endoscopy for a colonoscopy again. read more

When I earlier had driven by Desert Endoscopy Center to make sure I could locate the building the morning of my scheduled routine colonoscopy, I questioned whether or not this would be a top-notch facility based on the "curb" appeal of the building. My experience there this morning was absolutely top-notch! All the personnel I came into contact with were friendly, efficient, and professional. I was required to arrive an hour prior to the procedure, and had very little waiting time between completing admitting paperwork and before being called back. The waiting room was good-sized and stocked with many different magazines. Do be aware that once you are called back for prep, you will not see your loved-one (or whomever drove you to the center) until you are in recovery. This was my third colonoscopy over the past 15 years: one at Banner Desert Mesa (at the time called Desert Sam), one at Princess Medical Center in Scottsdale, and now Desert Endoscopy Center. I really could not tell the difference between any of the facilities in terms of the medical technology and procedures used, or competency of the medical personnel. Fortunately, I have had competent doctors who performed the procedures without incidences. Again, the medical personnel who worked with me seemed very able. I always felt that I was receiving the best of care. Side note: I had not removed all jewelry- one thin silver ring band-before arriving at the center. I placed it in my glass case and gave to my husband for safekeeping. When we arrived home, the ring was not there. I called the center, and the receptionist was very kind to look and actually found the ring in the waiting area! Greatly appreciated she would take time to look! read more

I'm back to update my review left in 2014. In looking at my previous review, I realized there's more to this story, which has to do with me getting to know more about how health insurance works. It's not Desert Endoscopy Center's fault that there was a communication issue with the sometimes-contracted-with- and sometimes-non-contracted-with-BCBSAZ anesthesiology group that they use. (I suspect this is normal in any center that contracts with anesthesiology groups). Bottom line is that health care insurance is very complicated, with many layers that one must peel through to get to the real answer. It takes a lot of effort on the consumer's part, as well as all the various layers of health care professionals involved. It can be exhausting. It's no fault of this center that health care insurance is the way it is. Anyway, I have been to Desert Endoscopy Center at least one time since my 2014 review, and I am a fan for sure. read more

I would avoid this center at all costs. I checked multiple times with this office to make sure everything was in-network and was told that it was. I have now been battling an out-of-network anesthesiology bill of $1400 for over a year. I would have made different choices had I known ahead of time. read more

I went in for the procedure and it went well. no problems until 7 months later.... Major shock MONTHS after procedure.... after checking MULTIPLE times that my insurance is taken and 100% covered for my routine procedure, i have the procedure. I asked specifically about the anesthesiology group, and was told it was all covered by my insurance, which they took.... 6 months later, i am being billed for $963 by anesthesia group, Grand canyon anesthesia and they claim that they have to bill for double the amount because my insurance did not pay them enough.... i am reporting the anesthesia group, and this group to the az medical board for partipating in this fraudulent billing. I feel that i was lied to by this group when i specifically asked about anesthesia group coverage. in reading other reviews, this has been an ongoing issue with this anesthesiology group, but this center continues to use them anyway.... in my mind, they are complicent with the fraudulent billing. read more

I have had three colonoscopies at Desert Endoscopy over the years. The first one was eleven years ago and started out poorly because my doctor was on vacation! I assume there had been a clerical error in scheduling my appointment. My husband let them know that I should not have to repeat the prep and come back, so Dr. Patel did my procedure. To whom it may concern, I would just like to share my experience and thoughts about how ridiculous this appointment is turning out to be. I brought my husband in for an endoscopy and this is how our day went. He followed all the pre-appointment directions including completing all paperwork at home and bringing it with us. Then we were an HOUR early as requested, even though the forms are already done... After checking in and waiting until the appointment time he was called back by the nurse(assistant). 20+ minutes later I was told the doctor is 45 minutes to an hour behind so it will be at least another hour. If this were a free clinic providing services out of the goodness of your heart I would gladly be patient and grateful for the help. However that is not the case. All insurance is pre-approved and payment for the appointment is taken with photo ID as if the woman behind the counter is already a machine and doesn't even bother to look up or smile at you. This is all before you even meet your doctor or know what your service level will be. When you are being paid top dollar for a procedure that hypothetically only takes 20-30 minutes (when all goes well) then how is it appropriate to ask for almost 3 hours of our time. (1hour before 30minutes into appointment add another hour= 2.5 plus drive time and at home paperwork) Why not let us at least just show up on time instead of early for an appointment if you are chronically late? I hope your office can improve their respect for its patients time and try to be reasonable with appointment policies. Thank you. read more

Did two upper EGD procedures and a colonoscopy here over the course of two years. The quality of the facility seems pretty top notch and the staff is pretty friendly and professional for the most part. Let's start off with the waiting area... it's not that big and what I have noticed is that they tell you to show up an hour before your procedure so if at any time they get backed up in their procedures that waiting room gets cramped quick but other than that it's alright in there. Once you go through the waiting room phase and you're called back they'll put you in a bed area and you'll put on their gown and put all your belongings in a bag, once past this stage you just sort of lay around waiting for them to catch up on getting information down and talking to the nurses about history/conditions and you'll sign some papers for the anesthesiologist and procedure - they'll talk about risks for a little bit as well and then there will be some more waiting around before they move you into the procedure where it feels pretty rushed. Now I recently had an emergency room visit to Banner Gateway Medical Center and had an upper EGD performed that blew Desert Endoscopy Center away in terms of technology and treatment/guidance. The practices they used at that hospital were beyond anything I have seen at Desert Endoscopy Center. Not to say Desert Endoscopy sucks but I would hope they would have thought about upgrading some of their techniques over the course of two years such as how you lay in the procedure/bite-block/anesthesiologist dosing and the comfortability of it all. I've had mixed feelings over my visits to Desert Endoscopy Center - one time was absolutely terrible where me and my father (have to have someone to drive you there and back) had to sit in a backed up waiting room for 3 hours and then spent another hour or two after getting through the waiting room process before I was done and home. The last time I went there for an upper EGD it was nearly on schedule every step of the way. It was a checkup upper EGD and one of the nurses gave me a real hard time about me doing my own research on prescriptions and the side effects of those prescriptions and she was pretty much telling me to just take drugs for my esophagitis regardless of whatever research I have done myself. She quite frankly was rude about it and wouldn't let it go. Other than that this place is A-OK but nothing phenomenal or state of the art. read more

However once you step inside the care you receive from the moment you arrive is absolutely the best service with the friendly thorough staff from check in to recovery. The facility was clean from the waiting room and throughout clinical areas. I had 2 GI procedures preformed yesterday and truly appreciated the professionalism and friendliness of the medical staff, as well as the the front desk staff. I have been with my husband during his visits to other facilities for his procedures and Desert Endoscopy Center far exceeds the care and service of the bigger hospital that my husband goes to annually for his procedures. I had a procedure at Desert Endoscopy Center recently. The staff was nice enough but I felt that my personal health information was not kept private. I could hear the patients next to me discuss their personal health information and I am sure they heard mine and my name because I had to state if several times, which I understand. There is only a separation of a curtain between patients when the nurse is asking the history and I am not sure how that follows the HIPAA guidelines. After the procedure the nurse was very loud in giving me instructions, at that point I just wanted to go home. My boyfriend came in to get me and the nurse handed him my procedure report with photos that I did not authorize, I had to ask him to not look at that. I realize that they do this everyday but the patients do not and they should be a bit more compassionate and respectful for the patients privacy. read more

One of the nicest, professional endoscopy/colonoscopy centers I have used for a procedure. Staff was empathetic, professional and excellent. They make you feel at home. They are very sympathetic to your needs. They are there to do their job but at the same time recognize that people are anxious, nervous and don't know what to expect.
