Came across this pizza place that seems pretty chill. DeSalvo's is a popular hipster space in Evanston. It has quite a lot more than just pizzas. Find some other things like pastas and other Italian favorites. The prices aren't bad especially at happy hours and other times. Basically it's best known for the pizzas though there's lots more to choose from. It's actually a lot bigger place than it looks. There's enough room for a group and there's a few window seats along with booths and tables. Has a few local beers on tap including Around The Bend. It's about $12 for a small pizza. Got it and the crust was fluffy while being crispy. They charge per each topping and these aren't cheap so we only got mushrooms. Other menu items include calzones. These are great if eating it yourself and not wanting to look like a pig. For sure it's another pizza place but this is way better than average. It's located close to the Central Street Metra station so it's convenient. They're closed Sundays. read more

The food alone was worth the trip all the way from Uptown. The counter service people were friendly and helpful and the space gets crowded but not crazy. The prices are definitely worth the food quality. I will definitely make the trip up north again soon. read more

We tried both thin and Detroit style pizza by the slice and both were very good. Great to have a place nearby where you can just grab a slice of good pizza. We took our pizza slices to go, but it also seemed welcoming inside. What a great addition to the neighborhood. read more

I went when first opened a few years ago. Hard Working people making good food. But could you keep the N word to yourself ?

The pizza was fairly tasty, but I will never return to this place. At one point during lunch, I left my table to use the restroom. Once inside the restroom, I discovered a giant cockroach near the sink. In order to save the counter staff the embarrassment of being confronted with this issue in the presence of other customers, I said nothing at the time. Instead, I notified the restaurant of the problem via email after I returned home. They never responded. So, whoever operates this place not only fails to observe basic standards of hygiene in their store, but they also disregard customer concerns relating to this issue. Overall, a badly run and unprofessional operation. Don't eat here. I hope it goes out of business, and I suspect it will in the near future if they don't get their act together. read more

Honestly, I wasn't expecting to love this place as much as I did, but everything was super fresh and packed with flavor. You can tell they really care about their ingredients. We tried the Green Dreams pizza, the Rabbit (veggie) slice, a Detroit Square, the seasonal salad, the seasonal vegetables, and the garlic knots. The seasonal salad was crisp and refreshing, and the seasonal vegetables were roasted perfectly with this creamy aioli that just brought everything together--such a good combo. The pizzas were absolutely delicious, and my favorite was the Detroit-style pie--crispy edges, cheesy, and just the right amount of sauce. You can really taste the freshness in the dough and toppings. And the garlic knots? Next level--soft, flavorful, and honestly, some of the best I've had. Beyond the food, the vibe inside is cozy and bright, making it a great spot for a quick bite or a casual hangout with friends. The staff is super friendly and welcoming, which makes the whole experience even better. Definitely a must-visit if you're in Evanston--whether you're grabbing a slice or sitting down for a full meal, you won't be disappointed! read more

Cute place- table and counter seating along the perimeter windows. Sandwiches looked great and the thin crust Raccoon. pizza we ordered delicious. We both agreed that it was one of the best pizza by the slices we have had anywhere. Pepperoni, sausage, caramelized onions , goat cheese topped with hot honey. Staff were pleasant. Will be coming back again when in Evanston. read more

Fun, casual, lots of families, gluten-free and plenty of vegetarian options, wonderful that they have slices (saves a lot of money for groups with various dietary options). Also right across the street from public picnic tables, so a lot of people ordered to-go and went out to enjoy the sunshine. read more

Came here yesterday. Wow a great place. A bit noisy for all the kids but not bad. A real community hangout. You order at the counter and they call your name or bring it to you. We ordered the Detroit and loved it. The crispy cheese edges were soooo good. Lots of pepperoni and I thought a bit skimpy on the sausage. But lots of cheese. It's really one of the better pizzas in Evanston IMHO. The small Caesar's salad was really good. enough for 3 of us. I think since we ate in the portions might be a little more than the small size carryout container. But I'm not telling anyone. They have beer and wine and frozen lemonade that they will add champagne to if interested. We had the sparking that was a nice pour. We'll definitely returning. read more

Pizza flavors are delicious! Stopped in for a late lunch on a Friday afternoon to pick up some pizza slices to go. It was pretty empty in the place. When I first walked into the place, the staff welcomed me with great smiles and vibes. The cashier said the sausage pizza is coming up if I want a fresh slice. I ordered 2 cheese and the 1 fresh sausage. Ultra thin crust is not my favorite style of pizza. I will try other items on the menu next time. Parking: street Parking via parking App. Cheers! read more

The pizza is always tremendous. Delicious sides and salads, fast service. Love the location. Always a favorite after the park with the kids.

The quality of this place has gone way downhill. Today I ordered a gf focaccia bread sandwich. The bread was cold and hard and the aioli was supposed to be Italian. It's super annoying Yelp takes down these reviews. read more

Went in for a pizza with gluten free crust. Glad they carried it. They informed me that it would take me 25 mins. So i check in after 25 to ask if there was an update on the time. The guy pulled my ticket out of the stab pile and said it would be 5-10 mins. It was not a rush during that time, but it seemed like they scrambled to tell the kitchen to crank it out. Anyways, the pizza was the driest and hardest thing i'd eaten in a while. Definitely wasn't worth 28 bucks for a small pizza that tasted like it was out of a frozen 5 dollar thin crust. Don't think i'll be coming back read more

I've been enjoying their slices for a couple of years: delightfully crunchy-but-chewy crust and quality toppings. Carnivores, don't miss The Racoon; vegetable lovers, ditto The Rabbit and The Med. An opportunity to try the calzone finally presented itself, and I grabbed it with both hands (literally). My favorite calzones are typically somewhat heftier, but it was perfectly balanced and just as delicious as their pizza. That crust, man--I could eat it plain! read more

This pizza comes the closest to New York-style pizza among any that I've had since moving to Chicago 45+ years ago. Perfect crust. It folds! Just the right amount of cheese cooked just right. Will definitely order again. read more

Excellent NY east coast crust but sauce is salty and toppings are very light. Could easily be a 5 star spot with some modifications.

We stopped in for dinner before a NU hoops game and really enjoyed our salad and pizzas! We split the mixed green salad and the portion was perfect as a side salad and there's lots of good stuff in there. The Rabbit slices were served warm and crispy -- the Neopolitan style crust was so good. We had to go back and pick up a cheese slice for good measure. Friendly staff and no nonsense ordering and they bring your food out when it's ready. A nice fast casual atmosphere. read more

Amazing food, the turkey focaccia is to die for. Raccoon pizza just has to be experienced. Has dine-in or carryout.

First off, this seasonal salad was delicious. But $17 for a salad that tiny and calling it an entree salad? When I went back in becuase they didn't include my anchovie add-on, I actually asked to confirm that this was in fact the entree size. And this pic was taken before I took a single bite. Wish I'd added something for scale to show just how small the salad container was. If you are familiar with Potbelly salads, I'd say this container was maybe 1/3 smaller than those. And hardly full. So I ended up treating this as an appetizer and getting my entree at Pinto. read more

100% will order again. Worth the chaotic parking to pick up. All tasty, but would surpringly rank my food as follows: 1) Seasonal salad 2) Chocolate chip cookie 3) Garlic knots 4) Build-your-own pizza with pineapple and Italian sausage The pizza sauce is ever so slightly spicy, so I may try an alternate sauce next time. After moving back to Evanston after a few years in the city, I was sad to see that Symphony's didn't survive. (I'll miss their pumpkin pasta!) DeSalvo's is the best pizza on the north shore. NY style slices individually or full pies. Crust is firm and holds but it's also soft and chewy. Proportions of sauce, cheese, crust, and toppings are well balanced so nothing dominates the flavor or texture. They also have Detroit style pizza that looks delicious but I haven't tried it. The sandwiches are really good. The bread is excellent and they use high quality ingredients. The Italian is my favorite sandwich on the north shore. All around great spot. read more

DeSalvo's is SUCH a welcome addition to this stretch of Central Street! Their pizza is outstanding... crispy and chewy crust, high quality and fresh toppings, interesting flavor combinations. They get food out quickly when you dine in and their take out is reliable and travels well. We love the Raccoon pizza, the arugula salad, their pepperoni (little cups! Delish!), and their pesto pizza. I can get my four-year-old to do anything by bribing him with their brownie. I've only had their Detroit style pizza once but it was incredible. Oh! And their Italian sandwich! It's so good. My husband is obsessed with it. Everyone who works there is super lovely and kind. Always a great experience there. If you haven't been, go!
