First, they, and I mean they, because the barber brought his girlfriend with him, showed up with their car wreaking of marijuana, which I don't have a problem with, but showing up high to an appointment is not a good first impression.
Second, the barber only knows how to do a fade. Didn't bring scissors of any kind. Just a clipper barber. I even said at the very beginning of the haircut, what I wanted: "I would like to keep as much length on top as possible, I part my hair, and I would like thinning sheers to blend hair all around." He didn't have thinning sheers, but didn't bother to tell me he couldn't offer the service I was asking for before anything even started, until it was too late and way too much of my hair was cut off.
Third, when I scheduled the service, I asked if they had a vacuum or anything like that to clean up afterwards, as I was getting the haircut at my office. They said on the phone they would bring a sheet so they could pick up the hair afterward no problem. They didn't bring the sheet, and did a sub-par job cleaning up afterward leaving plenty of hair on the chair that I sat in, all the while making me feel guilty for their cleaning up.
As he and his girlfriend were leaving and they realized I was unhappy with the fact that he couldn't do what I was asking (and still cut my hair anyways) and realized he cut way too much of my hair off all around my head, he made sure to say something under his breath, like "man this is a barber service." I get that he's African American, and I have plenty of friends of various backgrounds and races, and doesn't need to use anything but a clipper on his own hair, but plenty of barber shops know how to cut hair with clippers and scissors and do things like blend hair.
I paid $55 for the service, gave a tip of $7, which is less than I would normally tip for something like this (15-25% for haircuts, always), but honestly would not receive a haircut from him again for free.
AS A MAN, DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE UNLESS YOU WANT SOMETHING YOU CAN GET FROM A SPORTS CLIPS STYLIST FOR $15. read more
