I have 4 kids and my two oldest needed some serious dental work. We were looking at 8 wisdom teeth and about 7-8 fillings for my 20 year old daughter and 18 year old son. At $500 per wisdom tooth and $500 put them under we were looking at almost $5,000. We were hesitant to come down to Tijuana and try and find the office but we had some friends who had been down and they said it was easier than one thinks. So we did it. The first one down the did one side of each of my kids, fillings and one wisdom tooth. My son's wisdom tooth was sideways and impacted so the had the break it in two pieces and remove it. I thought he would be out of commission for a week, but he was totally fine the next day. Wow. It was done solely with local anesthetic and it was super quick. I couldn't believe it. Each filling was $60, and each the extractions were $100. I saved thousands of dollars and the office was very professional, the Doctors are a husband and wife team. If you are an American and wondering whether or not to go across the border for dental work, I wouldn't hesitate if you want to save 80-90%.
The only thing you might notice different from an office in the U.S. Is that they don't use dental assistants for fillings and even the extractions. The Dr does the stuff that the assistants do typically. Overall I am blown away with the quality of service, cleanliness of offices and professionalism, just didn't know what to expect. We are down for our second visit today and everything has gone quickly and efficiently. I'm so impressed.
Crossing the border, walking across, can be intimidating if you haven't done it before but nothing to be scared about. My recommendation is to exit at the last exit, park ($10), walk across the border. Take a taxi to the dentist ($4-5) 1.7 miles. Just hand the taxi driver the address on a paper. 5 mins you are there. Get your work done, grab taxi to border. Get bus service that takes you to front of the line to walk back across for $6 (worth every penny) depending when you are heading back, it's about 30-60 min wait, voila you are back in the states. Walk to your car and you are on the road back to your house. Don't forget to bring your passport, that is required.
If you are seriously thinking about it, call and talk with the Doctors. They are super friendly and will advise you over the phone about prices and work to do. Tell them Kevin McGrew recommended you. read more
