I am extremely pleased with my two days of dental services provided by Advanced Smiles Dentistry. I have paid far more for a far lower standard of dental care. After my dentist retired, we had a little global pandemic, and then things got busy and ... in 2026 I brought them a mouth some California dentists wouldn't touch without hundreds of dollars in X-ray and lab fees up front. Then wouldn't touch. ​ In two days of care, they replaced a complex crown, did four quadrants of deep cleaning, and filled an embarrassing number of cavities. I paid about two and a half Gs for what I was quoted elsewhere for between $6K and $10K. This is dental work under local anesthesia, so some pain from numbing is expected. They have a deal with a chain hotel in easy walking distance that has an included breakfast with soft foods and a UV water dispenser on every floor. From my initial contact on WhatsApp, to their offer to Uber me to the office, to patient intake and detailed assessment including head CTs (!), 3D modeling (!!!), photography of teeth and individual tooth x-rays, and the competence of the clinical team... I don't believe this level of dental care is available in Estados Unidos. If I have a friend who needs dental care, I will cheerfully refer them here. I had a situation where my existing upper crowns that I had done in 2012 in Los Angeles were wearing down all my bottom teeth to the point where the nerves were being exposed. My local dentist here in LA referred me to a nearby dentist to find a solution. This solution was to replace all my bottom teeth with new crowns. This would've cost me $28,000 for the crowns alone. Any root canals, mouthguards, etc would have been an additional fee. I was definitely not thrilled about that pricing and that's when I considered getting my mouth looked at in Tijuana. It was actually ChatGPT that recommended Advanced Smiles Dentistry along with one other dentist. I booked an appointment, and right from the get-go. I was impressed. The 3-D scanning which I believe included a CAT scan, the intraoral scanning, and the level of attention from the dentist and staff was outstanding. The CAT scan found some decay underneath my bridge which my regular dental x-ray a few months back did not uncover. Their technology seems way ahead of my local LA dentists. I met with Dr. Elias Rodriguez , and his suggestion was not to replace just the lower teeth with crowns but to redo the entire mouth, top and bottom, which would address the deficiencies of my existing 13-year-old upper crowns. This would allow him to redesign my bite as well. I was quoted for both getting just the lower done or the entire mouth. I went for the latter option. The bottom line is that for a total mouth reconstruction, dealing with the decay, and three root canals and a mouthguard, the price was just over half of what it would cost in Los Angeles for the lower crowns alone. I found that Dr. Elias to be extremely attentive, focused, and to be quite the perfectionist. A couple of the crowns were not 100% perfect and he sent them back to be redone. I believe their lab which makes the crowns is upstairs from the dental practice, and the reworked crowns were back within the hour. I also want to add that Dr. Valeria Bonilla who did my three root canals was also superb. I had all three done one after the other and for me, it was the easiest and most painless root canals I've ever had. And lastly, my full set of brand new teeth look fantastic. My bite is finally normal for the first time in my life. Thrilled. I'm actually going back in a couple of weeks for my mouthguard and final checkup. I am also taking along my mum, sister, and wife, who all need various different procedures and want to avoid the crazy US prices. He went to the local dentist and they took the implant out and it was loose. Recently he had to go to the dentist again for the same reason and it turned out that the dentist at Advance Smiles had put in the wrong "abutment" the part that goes into the implant. I am so disappointed. The other implant that cost us three times more done in the States is perfect. No problems and it's older than his tooth done at Advance Dentistry. Now it's going to cost us thousands of dollars for their malpractice. I am so sad because I recommended them to everyone I know. The place was descent, the parking is horrible. I went for a tooth that has been hurting for a year! Alejandra there was super nice and was honest to me about the simple filing down she needed to do. I also did a cleaning which was done well. She's did mention that the previous dentist I had did my crown really good. The only thing I didn't like was that my cleaning was 3x the price they originally gave me. They said it was $50 over the phone and it turned out being a $170 payment!! They had added an additional $30 for an Ortho recommendation that I didn't proceed with??? . I have been delaying going to the dentist for years because of the accumulated trauma of so many years of bad dentists whom I can't but call sadistic. I did a lot of research and finally settled on ADS with my priority being gentleness of care. I had the honor of being worked on by Dr Alejandra Flores, who is a master of her craft yet comes across as very humble and caring. I specifically requested Dr Flores because she is named specifically in many of the real Advanced Smiles reviews on the web and her work looks like that of a true artist. I can personally attest to the accuracy of those reviews because Dr Flores was kind, patient, and warm when dealing with me and my loads of emotional baggage. Her craftwork was just as excellent as her personality and demeanor because I can gratefully say that I am no longer ashamed to smile anymore. You can't put a price on that, yet ASD's prices are upfront, transparent, and a great value. This is a huge plus because as an American, we are usually more scared of price-gouging bills than the actual pain of the procedure. I had lots of work done so I requested an IV sedation to reduce my stress levels. Dr Denisse was just as understanding and gentle as Dr Flores. Another master of her craft, I didn't feel or even remember anything. I would highly recommend this option if you're as stressed and nervous as I was. Fortunately, the front office staff left a terrific first impression with their kindness and understanding from the get-go. Special shoutout to Carol and Diana who are superstars and deserve a raise. I had both my wisdom tooth and a difficult supernumerary tooth--located in the middle of my mouth--removed here. The team are true experts in this type of work. I did extensive research before choosing to undergo my orthodontic surgery at this clinic, and I'm so glad I did. This is a wonderful dentist office. I've been here for a week and have had nothing but positive experiences. Ive had 4 fillings replaced and a new crown for 1/3 the price of USA dentist. Dr. Rubio is very caring. I took one star away bc they used throat guard when drilling out the old amalgam fillings. The throat guard was not explained beforehand and was very awkward putting it in my throat and wrapped around other teeth to secure it. I am one year post two front teeth implants and partial veneers done over 3 trips from New York. This was not an easy job; I had been without these teeth for some time which had bone loss and the gum tissue was , well, degrading. they had to have a specialist come who did tissue grafting and he came that day like you were ordering Uber eats or something. I am 100% happy with the way it looks and my only regret is I didnt have the other k-9 veneered which is now sensitive and I regret not having more done while I was there. the communication regarding how many visits needed and when did cause me inconvenience and is one complaint. However, they did make it right. for instance, one part of it required veneers which they dont make there and normally takes a week. they made it rushed (4 days) so I didnt have to come back again. I would just tell you if your traveling from far like me make sure your clear on how long things, take, i.e. healing, what youll need and time periods, etc so you can plan accordingly. Five Stars does not cut it.  After three visits, I am almost cured of my dentist phobia.  For the first time in my life, I look forward to an appointment.   Came all the way from Kentucky, and I found my doctor for life.  Don't let fear and propaganda stop you. I had nothing but an amazing experience.  Follow the travel guides, and stick with the advice of the team at ASD and your hotel.  You will be fine! Dr. José Luis Metzler (D.D.S) is an angel and went above and beyond to help me.  He took the time to talk me through everything (in English, btw. Almost everyone in the office is bilingual), I was terrified and in dire straits.  He calmed my anxieties and helped figure out the best plan of action for my budget and medical case.  Was able to do better than expecting.  He is funny and able to crack jokes to keep you in a good place. Felt at ease and safe in his hands, like a new friend. Not forgetting the staff. Liz helped me so much. Between the 40 emails and multiple phone calls, she made sure I got there, and I was taken care of. Helped me book a hotel and coordinate rides. She was always there with help and answers, along with comfort for my fear.  Felt safe with her around, a true joy. Feel guilty, I can't remember all the names because everyone was so helpful. From the doctor's assistant, who stayed all day in surgery to the people running x-rays, the artists molding dental prosthetics.  Even down to my driver, Omar. He was sent from office at a reasonable rate to pick me all the way up from the airport in San Diego, right to the office.  He was funny, personable, and very kind.  Willing to help with translations in town or what have you.  Very calm and careful, not crazy, and fast like taxi's that will rip you off and scare you.  Made sure I arrived and entered all destinations safely. I went there not blindly, but after long agonizing research.  Reading reviews, travel websites, medical tourism forums, videos, and anything I could find.  Tijuana area was cheapest for my travel plans, closest to the airport.  Set to find a dentist there.  Most seemed to be more superficial stuff, veneers, cleanings, and whitening or just didn't have enough information I felt comfortable with.  Needed major work and teeth made, plus my extreme fear and anxiety. The ASD website had the most beautiful false teeth I had seen on their website.  Previously, I had contacted another dentist, but something about it didn't feel right, and I contacted Advanced Smiles Dentistry (ASD) instead... and I'm here to say I am so glad I did.  All the research I've done has shown me the nightmares people go through and the sometimes-horrendous prosthesis they end up with.  I received the best treatment and most beautiful prosthesis.  Dr. José Luis Metzler (D.D.S) created and brought a smile to my face that I am now not ashamed to show again. Best dentist I've ever been to!!! Hadn't been to a dentist in several years and was quoted $1,200 for a deep cleaning (dental code D4341) by one dentist and $900 by another in the Washington D.C. area. Was in the San Diego area on vacation so decided to check out Advanced Smiles given the awesome reviews they get here. Couldn't have been more pleased! First of all, was quoted a grand total of $200 for the cleaning - less than 25% of the lowest price I was quoted in the States. The price included free FMX full-mouth dental x-rays (D0210) and some other photographic images (D0350). All the dental staff was extremely friendly. For some reason, my internet connection wasn't working on my cell phone so I couldn't connect to Uber. No problem - after I called the dental office to explain the situation, they contacted Uber for me and had them come to my location to pick me up and drop me off at the dentist. (Paid the Uber driver in cash - cash is a much more common payment method for Uber in Mexico.) Uber ride from my hotel on Revolucion was only around $2 each way - Uber rides from the border are less than $5 I think. You can also take a taxi from the border for $10-$15 which isn't too bad but Uber is always going to be much much cheaper than a taxi anywhere you go in Tijuana. The actual deep cleaning was smooth and painless. Most places in the U.S. do deep cleanings over the course of two dental visits; here the entire cleaning is performed in just one visit. My dentist was a younger lady who was very friendly, knowledgeable, and explained everything involved with the process clearly. The entire cleaning took a couple of hours, but again was painless and much smoother than I expected. They also accept American credit cards which was nice. Also want to mention that all of the staff - from the dentists to the hygienists to the front desk staff - spoke clear, understandable English. I 100% will come back here for any dental procedures I may need in the future not covered by my current insurance in the U.S. read more

I went to Advanced smiles dentistry in July after I got into an accident and quite literally broke one of my front teeth in half. I would need a root canal and a crown. After I got a quote from a dentist in San Diego for approx. $4,500 I called Advanced smiles dentistry and without EVEN HAVING TO GO IN they gave me an exact quote and break down of the price to fix the tooth which ended up being $1,090. Everyone one there was so kind and so professional, and they did such incredible work! It's extremely difficult to color match just one tooth, especially front teeth. If you're American please be aware that this business does not have your best interest in mind all they see us as are dollar signs $$$. I scheduled an appointment, my scheduled date was 3 weeks out. I was called the day before; but I missed their call, as I was at work. I received no email and no voice mail advising me of a failure to confirm appointment; would result in a additional $30 fee! -and never advised that my appointment would be cancelled! The following day (appointment day) I called while driving to my appointment into Tijuana to ask the location on my GPS; to my surprise I was told they did not have an appointment scheduled under my name!!. I told them I had even received a call the day before; the operator said, because I had not confirmed my appointment the night before; my appointment was cancelled and if I wanted to re-schedule I would have to pay a cancellation fee!! In addition to the $40 consult fee a total of $70 Although I had NEVER cancelled my appointment! In addition to the ridiculous fees; on the supposed fake cancellation fee.. that by the way I had never cancelled! Also, there were even more surprises in $$ charges; I was told I would be charged a consult fee, plus a cosmetic evaluation fee, and X-rays! I am thankful that they cancelled my appointment because I found a great reputable dentist that honors his word and is CERTIFIED!! My dentist used plenty of Vaseline during the process (which they never do elsewhere) let me rest my jaw often (that never happens), used numbing gel and applied a varnish for sensitive teeth at no extra charge (I've never been offered sensitivity varnish...like wth???) Dr. Alejandra Ponce was so thorough in her exam and even took photos just to help with a treatment explanation. She did a very extensive cleaning (deep gum scraping and polishing) and all this for $145! My BF is getting two crowns in three days for a third of the cost in California where we live. read more

First off, I have to say... the doctor you get here is extremely important. The first doctor I saw was not thorough at all and she made me feel like a crazy person telling me the pain was unrelated to the procedure (after being seen by the owner it was related) and it was just a terrible month because of all the pain but after I was contacted by the owner, I am beyond happy to say that with the help and care of Dr. De Anda that I had a completely wrong impression of this office. Dr. De Anda went out of his way to help me with my situation within a day and replaced the problem crown completely. He explained to me that the dentist I had seen in this office before is more conservative and eased my anxiety. I recently got a whole mouth reconstruction of all my teeth done here. My experience was nothing short of exceptional from beginning to end. First, I want to say that I have read some of the negative reviews and that they are nonsense. I have been going to this office for almost 3 years. I had severe dental issues, including missing teeth and bone loss. I was quoted huge amounts of money in Los Angeles. House refinance amounts of money. I had a referral to another practice in Tijuana, but I did not have a good feeling about them. Went to Advanced and they took me in immediately, as I was already in Tijuana. The office was well appointed, the staff was professional, and Dr. Julian was a complete professional. Their work was as good, if not better than any dentist I have visited in the States. They now even have their own Laboratory to produce crowns in house. I estimate that my work cost about 30%. This was the difference between doing the work and letting some dental issues continue to deteriorate. None of my work has failed and I am in the home stretch to finally have a complete smile. It has been 2.5 years since my Significant Other and I went to Advanced Smiles. I had to get a crown done, and so to save some money, I was looking for a place to go to in TJ, and based on the yelp ratings and reviews I saw, we ended up here. initially, I thought our experience was actually pretty awesome. Pretty much the entire staff was very nice, and it felt clean. Most of the patients there all seemed to be from the States when we were there. As for the actual experience regarding our teeth, i was told I needed a a few fillings replaced in addition to the crown I needed and my SO was told that she needed a ton of her fillings replaced - she wasn't any feeling any pain or sensitivity at the time, but in trust, we both went forward with our recommended procedures. My overall experience seemed to be fine, but my SO, not so much. she told me that her dentist kept complaining that her mouth was too small, and they eventually put in some kind of mouth opening device, and she said the doctor was not gentle with her. That was sad to hear, but with the low prices, we chalked it up to just dealing with it. After 3 separate trips from LA, we were done. Over the last yeah, both our mouths started experiencing growing sensitivity and discomfort and pain, and unfortunately, a few weeks ago, i ended up just going to a local dentist in Los Angeles, and I had to get a crown on one of the teeth they worked on due to excessive decay under one of fillings Advanced Smiles did on me, and the other filling that was done by Advanced Smiles will also need to be replaced soon. Also, today, my SO just found out from the local dentist that every single filling done from Advanced Smiles have to be replaced due to decay underneath all of them. I'm really surprised and unsure why nearly every single tooth worked on both our mouths have a decay problem - our dentist here in LA suggested it could possibly be due to different regulations or inexperience? Overall, our discount prices so far looks to turn out to be a much more expensive outcome. Due to the outcome of our teeth now, i would probably opt for a 1 star rating, but I'll give them 2 stars because their staff, minus my SOs dentist, seemed to be very nice, and for folks who need a cheap option for emergency work, this might still be a viable option for them - i just warn that the work done there might need to get replaced or worked on much sooner than you hope. read more

I am sitting at the dental office after getting a filling and an impression for a night guard, so of course it's too soon to say anything about the quality or longevity of the work I got done. However, I've had such a seamless experience getting to ASD and all of the staff and my dentist, Dr Narvaez, have been so kind and accommodating, I just have to write a positive review for them! I live in San Diego, so getting to the border was an easy 20 minute drive. I chose to cross the border by foot since I know driving around in Tijuana can be a little tricky. Getting to TJ was so easy: parking is $9 during weekdays and the border patrol is a quick 10 minute walk across the bridge. Once you exit the patrol and walk onto the main street, you simply give ASD a call and they order an Uber for you. I had to wait maybe 5 minutes for my driver and the ride was $5. I was seen very quickly and of course all of the costs I was presented with was affordable (Consultation which includes an x-ray and CT scan = $45, Night guard = $150, Filling = $60). I was also suggested a cleaning ($100) and wisdom teeth removal ($270), but as I'm a graduate student who's always looking to save money, I decided to push these procedures off. The total for everything was $255. Dr Narvaez was soooooo gentle, kind, down to earth, and attentive to details. I am so happy she was assigned to me. She really seems to know what she's doing and also seems to respect teeth--she did not suggest any work I wasn't aware of (minus the wisdom teeth of course) and was very deferential towards all of my needs. All in all, I couldn't be more satisfied with my experience at ASD. I've been coming here since 2019 and I've had nothing but great experiences. I've had root canals, crowns put on, and more cavities filled than I'd like to admit. Everyone from the dentists, surgeons, assistants, and front desk staff has been incredibly professional and helpful. They take their time to explain anything you might need to have done and every step along the way. They never tried to get me to do any dental work besides what was strictly necessary (or informed me of the options). There were times where they thought I might need a procedure done, and I was prepared to do it, but upon further investigation it turns out I did not need the procedure. The specialist showed up on sight to do it but, but happily informed me it wasn't needed. This saved me a lot of money and mouth soreness. I've been recommending Advanced Smiles Dentistry to friends and family and everyone has had a great experience. I don't speak any Spanish and it's very helpful for me that every employee I've talked to who works in the office speaks great English. Cons: The only con is about dental work in general. Sometimes procedures take multiple trips to complete. It is a 5 hour drive one way for me and coming here is still my number one choice (even for routine check ups). They offer a 10% cash discount but you have to mention it specifically when getting charged out. read more

I had an amazing experience at advanced smiles. The staff were all friendly and informative from my very first call to inquire. I was so grateful to have a few friends who recommended this place. Crossing the border to Tijuana was easy and the office was a 15 minute uber ride from the border. Crossing the border was easy and quick. Arriving at the dental office I sanitized my shoes and had my temperature taken. All of the staff were wearing masks and the office didn't have too many people. There 3d x- ray imaging is the newest technology I've ever seen at a dentist. They took my x- rays and pulled them up on a big screen to show my and talk treatment plan. I appreciate how straightforward the process was. No hidden costs, and I saved over$1k on the work I had done. This is a dental office to trust. read more

I must give my honest review of this dental clinic. I unfortunately needed extensive dental work. So I and my wife decided to travel to Tijuana Mexico for care. I'm very pleased with our decision and choice of facility. You will not regret choosing this dentistry office First They are all polite and professional. They follow a strict Covid protocol for your safety and theirs. Second The equipment they use are high quality and high tech. Super clean. Top to bottom. Third They are very honest with your needs. Of course this is a business. But I am always cautious of being scammed. In the States I was being nickel and dime into submission. Here I was offered the best care upfront. With the best medicine for my recovery. Fourth The receptionist are extremely knowledgeable and polite. Don't hesitate to ask them questions. If they don't know the answer. They will ask the correct professional for you. Then if necessary the professional will come out to speak with you. This is done with a smile. Fifth You WILL get your money's worth. I'm paying a fraction of the cost I would in the states. But not sacrificing the care I am receiving. Sixth The dental surgeons are amazing. I was honestly terrified. But during my procedure I felt nothing. When I was told I was done. I was honestly surprised. I didn't feel the extractions. Also the surgeon was available for all my questions. Went there alone, female, from San Diego and it was sooooo easy!! I highly recommend this place! Take the trolly or your car to the border, then just Uber there is the best way. Very nice and helpful staff! Very beautiful and insanely clean office. I was very impressed with the staff and low prices and the professionalism. I can't believe how beautiful and natural my new veneers look!! They look better than my friends and family who have gotten theirs done in the states. Honestly. 100% recommend this place!! read more

I love this dental office. I live in SD and came down for veneer replacements and they did a lovely natural job. They also worked with me after the initial fittings with adjustments to make sure I was happy with them. Also got a filling on a veneered tooth (which my US dentist refused to touch because of the veneer) and Dr. Ponce not only made my veneers look fabulous (she placed them) but she filled the cavity without hurting the veneer. I get severe dental anxiety (contracted from US dentists) and I've fallen asleep on the dental chair 2-3 times here. I notated on my health checklist that I'm a nervous person and they took it seriously. Always very gentle, warm, and non-pushy. Maybe the best dental office in Tijuana in my opinion. read more

I wanted to get a little work done on my teeth but didn't have dental insurance. I then yelped and reviewed a few dentists in TJ. Now I know you all may be a little skeptic with going to Tijuana just for tacos , let alone going there for dental work, but don't believe the stigma. This is a top professional dental office that had nothing but EXCELLENT reviews! One thing that really made me want to go , is the fact that all of the employees are BI-Lingual , which is soooo good because I don't know a lick of Spanish . When I got to the office , I had to get buzzed in by the employees which is a good sign because it reassured my safety. When i walked in the office, everything was top notch! So clean and the girls at the front desk were sooo welcoming and sooo informative. I have to give a shoutout to my girls Paola and Sofie (the two girls in my pictures) that we're soooo helpful and always remembered who I was when I called to follow up. That really showed that they cared for my experience and really enjoyed their job enough to always greet me on the phone with kindness and always helping with my appointments!!! I wanted to come in and get a few crowns but they gave me a whole new smile makeover!!! I legit couldn't stop smiling after leaving the office! They priced me and helped me with deals!!! ****if you pay cash upfront , you get a 10% discount**** which really helped me! One crown in the US ranges from $800.00-$1,400 per crown.. But a crown here in Mexico aka Tijuana is priced $450.00!! And they were worth it!!! I also want to give a huge shoutout to my Dentist who gave me my new pearly whites! Thank you sooo much DR. Thelma Toledo!!!! She is sooo professional and informative and didn't sugarcoat ANYTHING! She gave you her honest opinions and recommended what was best! When I initially spoke with the dentist I was assured that once I had my permanent dentures I would be able to bite and chew normally. Not true! My permanent dentures are too big for my mouth, dig into my gums causing great discomfort, and pop off whenever I bite into anything harder than a banana. Even though they were the priciest I went with them because I believe you get what you pay for but apparently not. I gave them 3 stars because the people are all very nice, professional and competent and the office is clean and modern. They also did a great job on my extractions. If you need extractions and don't mind paying more than the other dentists in the area I would recommend them. If not for this I would have given one star. I would not recommend them for dentures. read more
