I have never felt cheated by a Denny's before today. I had server Flavio Figueroa "Frank". I ordered the $4.49 Value Slam and a $3.19 Orange Juice. I am vegetarian, and I requested that instead of the eggs and the bacon/sausage that he replace those 2 items with just 1 hashbrown and that would he fine. He told me that he could not and that he would need to charge me $8.99 for this and that they don't make substitutions for vegetarians in a very condescending manner. A little frustrated, I asked to speak with a manager to see if they could make a minor accommodation as it didn't make sense. He instantly changed his attitude and said "no problem, no big deal, I'll take care of you. I understand". He promptly brought my hashbrown and pancakes as per our discussion. When I finished my food, he gave me a bill as if we never had this conversation, charging me the entire amount as if I had ordered the hash brown a la carte ($3.49). Shocked, I ask him to revise the bill. He responded, "You ate it.. You have to pay for it!!!!", as if he had gotten away with a sheepish con. I immediately went to the manager and told them this is ridiculous and what surprised me is that the manager wouldn't even let me explain the situation. I said "look, I'll pay what I agreed to, but nothing more." When I pulled out a $20, Eva Bergensen, the manager, grabbed it and gave me change based on their incorrect bill, refusing to return my money. Frustrated, I threatened to call management and the police. They asked me to leave and I did.. frustrated with the cheating that I witnessed. Ridiculous. I was given a dirty glass with food and paper stuck to it, the bathrooms are ALWAYS dirty and smell atrocious, the food takes a long time to come out, and the windows and window shades are filthy. Do not eat here. Order was wrong, my crepe was cold. The salt had something in it, like it literally had something in it. Not much of a big corporate chain person, but I do like this Denny's. It's conveniently located off the 5, standard food fare, but they've always been accommodating when I simply drop by for a bathroom break, and friendly enough when I order late night food after Disneyland or some place further up as I return to San Diego. Ordered online. After driving and waiting to pick up food, found out there was no spaghetti (which I ordered and online said it was ready). No refund because it was ordered online and I would have to call "corporate" for a refund. No choice but to order something didn't really want. Not only was the spaghetti not available, the food that was ready is getting cold because the food I was forced to order needed to be cooked. Our server Guillermo was next level.. He was super quick with everything and the pancakes just felt fluffier. Not sure if they were or not but I just enjoyed them more due to his service. He was dealing with several other tables, one having a party of 8-9 people. He was consistent with our water and appropriately checked in on us. Best service I've had in a while. Host sat us in a booth next to the window. The window shades were filthy, full of dust.. My son ordered french toast and we found a long hair in it! So as im waiting for any waitress /waiter to pass by our area for the next 10 minutes, i gave up and just wanted our check. waitress took forever with our check. This establishment is the worst I have ever been to. Everyone is just chilling and talking to their family members and friends who are there having breakfast. This was the absolute WORST experience I have EVER encountered from any establishment. I am in the process of contacting Denny's headquarters as we speak. My order was wrong TWICE, after waiting 45 minutes for our food. After we had to take our food to go, because we no longer had time to eat, they had Extra food that we did not order on our bill. No accommodations were offered for their mess ups and they barely apologized. I advise you all to take your money to an establishment more worthy. read more

I never thought I'd be writing a review for Denny's, but it was just a little after 10:00 pm last night & my husband were starving, so we went to Harbor House in Dana Point (who used to be open 24/7)...They were closed. We headed up PCH to Denny's in Dana Point (used to be open 24/7) & they were also closed. I decided to call Denny's in San Clemente & found out they are open until midnight. They must have remodeled because it was much nicer than I remember. It was nice to see they now have more healthy options on their menu. I had the Cali Club sandwich & the most delicious green smoothie. Our waitress, Tammy was amazing! Very attentive & super sweet. She actually asked me if I was the one who had called to see if they were open, like she knew my voice & they were pretty busy. Overall the food & Tammy's great service were excellent. I will most definitely be returning to this location next time it's late & I am hungry. read more

I had a really good experience here last night (or should I say this morning?) I had gone up to Hollywood to go clubbing with my girlfriends for Halloween, and decided to head back down to San Diego the same night (don't ask why). I had to use the restroom pretty badly, so we stopped at Denny's (conveniently located right off the freeway). I dash in (someone was even standing at the door to open it for us!), and we're immediately seated (of course, it's 2 AM). The waiters are SO nice. I was in the bathroom for two minutes, and waters and menus were already down by the time I got out. Everybody had genuine smiles on their faces, despite the fact that there was a steady stream of drunk Halloween party-goers stumbling in and out of the restaurant. I couldn't help but notice how clean the restaurant was. We ordered a Grand Slam and the Los Lonely Boys burger- I love the unsalted fries!! The rest of the food was delicious, too. The parking lot is a little small, but so is the restaurant. I'll definitely be by this place again. Even though it's a chain, this restaurant definitely left a special "hole-in-the-wall" feeling. We pull out of the parking lot and get straight back on the freeway, heading back down towards La Jolla. The entire process only set us back 30 minutes. read more

Horrible Manager! Let me start by saying I was in the restaurant business for many many years and I truly know what I am commenting on. I have never seen such an oblivious (or uncaring) manager with complete ds-regard for her staff or customers. Complete lack of pitching in (AT ALL!) to help (AT ALL) or make sure customers are being served efficiently! Our poor server was so busy (as were all the Servers) he couldn't keep up. I watched the Manager (Eva) literally walk by our hot food sitting in the window 5 or 6 times for over 7 minutes, never even glancing at it, oblivious and completely uncaring! Not asking who's food it was, not aleart the servers, not delivering it herself... Not one managerial move, nothing instinctual of a good manager - NOTHING! Just left our food sitting there so she could go laugh with her friends! She walked by it aimlessly doing nothing except saying hi to a table of what appeared to be her friends! All the while telling her staff to do things (pointing), further swamping them! Not lending a single hand to assist them in any way!!! THEN... SHE COMPLETELY DISAPPEARED for the entirety of our stay (at least 20 mins more, who knows where) leaving her staff to fend for themselves with complete disregard for the customer's experience or her staff's efficiency during a VERY busy time! read more

I've stopped here since my first memories. That big sign makes it obvious. I can't say I come more often now that I live 150 miles closer, but I see it more often. So what you see is what you get. This is the new Denny's. Everything is worn out, the help is friendly but not like 20-30 years ago. The prices are higher as well, it isn't as affordable as it was even 15 years ago, but that is a testament to flat wages, not a complaint about Denny's. The food! The menu has evolved over the years but it is largely the same. You know what you can get and the quality of consistent with other Denny's. Like my hometown favorite, Carrow's, breakfast is available all day. I have a feeling this one is staying open until the lease is up. Or maybe they plan to remodel when the construction on the 5 is done. If they do stick around and remodel I'll reevaluate and hopefully they will get to 5 stars. read more
