Better than the frozen fish sticks from the supermarket. Fried zucchini was shaped like french fries. Batter was crunchy. I could barely taste the zucchini as there seemed to be more batter than zucchini. I prefer bigger pieces of zucchini and less batter. Ok dish. We looked up Smokehouse 41 and were sold on ordering The Mammoth, which says it feeds 4 to 6 but happily I can say that, and fed eight of us with a little leftover. Unfortunately, they do not take phone orders, but I can understand - now that we arrived in person to purchase our order for takeout. It's a lot of food to be ordered and a risk should the customer not pick it up. Also, there was a long line when we arrived, the parking was full, and the outside and inside dining were pretty full as well. Although the line was long to place our order as it's made to go in front of you, it went pretty quickly. They have a great set up and they know how to move the line quickly. It can be very tough dealing with a lot of tourist, new customers who do not know what they want, but I think that the employees here did an amazing job, especially the man that cuts the meat at the front stop, and the checkout employees at the register were also very friendly. Now let me tell you, we got a full rack of ribs, half pound of pulled pork, half pound of tri-tip, half pound of chicken, half pound of sausage and a half pound of brisket. You get six rolls and two large sides and when I say large, I mean jumbo sides. We ordered the barbecue baked beans with meat, and they are generous about it, we ordered the macaroni and cheese with bacon and again very generous on the bacon. At the end of the line, close to the cashier, I asked if they can make sure we had all the condiments, including barbecue sauces we needed to go. I was so surprised when they opened up the box of our order and everything was neatly packed in a large box with all the condiments, and they were generous with those as well, including butter for the rolls and different types of barbecue sauces. They gave us paper plates as well. Everything was packed so well! This place was really cool, they had plenty of customers dining inside and outside. They had an employee monitoring the inside dining hall, and making sure everything was cleaned, and when customers left the table, quickly went into turn the table over. I will say that this establishment, especially being in a high traffic tourist area, did an amazing job! Food was incredible! My favorite was the ribs and the sausage. But the pulled pork was also delicious! I have to give the food and service five stars all the way around! Bravo to this place!

Service was decent, and the ambiance was nice, but overall the experience was just okay. The Peruvian pretzel was actually pretty darn good and probably one of the highlights of the meal. The biggest disappointment, and the main reason I'm giving three stars, was the oysters. If I could rate the oysters separately, I would give them zero stars. They were probably some of the worst-tasting oysters I've ever had. They tasted extremely fishy and did not seem fresh at all. We ordered a dozen and definitely regretted ordering that many. The dipping sauce that came with them was very good, but for the price this restaurant charges, the oysters should absolutely taste fresh. I also would not recommend the mac and cheese. It looked more like something that came out of a box than freshly made restaurant mac and cheese. If you're ordering for kids, I'd probably choose the pasta with tomato sauce instead. There were some good things about the meal, especially the pretzel and the atmosphere, but between the oysters, the mac and cheese, the long wait for food, and the prices, three stars feels fair.

That is exactly what happened during my recent dinner at Elderberry House. I visited with a group of four, and between us, we had two gluten-free diners and one vegetarian. After a quick heads-up the day before, the restaurant handled our needs with total ease. We went for the five-course tasting menu, and it was incredible from start to finish. We kicked things off with one of the best oysters I have ever had, followed by a beautiful tuna presentation. The kitchen even looked out for our gluten-free friends with a special version of their herbal-butter focaccia that was actually delicious. By the time the main courses arrived, I honestly could not decide if I liked my beef or my friend's snap pea risotto better; every single bite was pure perfection. The cocktails were another high point. My first drink was great, but after chatting with our server, Jordan, I decided to try the Last Word. It featured that hard-to-find green chartreuse, and I am a little annoyed to report that I have a new favorite cocktail that requires such a rare ingredient. The service is what really made the night so special. Jordan was so charismatic and helpful, making sure we were perfectly taken care of all evening. He was so good that I almost worried a second visit would not be the same without him, though the rest of the staff quickly put that fear to rest. Abby was so friendly and responsible for a truly unique but perfect-for-the-vibe playlist, and Chris the mixologist even stopped by to geek out about gin and cocktails with us. From the genuine care for our food sensitivities to the clever touch of the iPad check-in hidden in an elegant binder, it was a night for the books. I cannot recommend this place enough and look forward to bringing my family next!

It feels complete and I LOVED their aguachile here!!! Spicy, zesty, chilled, and generous with the onions and cucumbers and avocado. It took longer to come out for sure, but when I tasted how fresh it was, it totally made sense. Each bite was humongous since I needed each component to make it perfect and I am so glad they gave enough toppings to complete each bite. AVOCADO IS NEEDED FOR SURE, the creaminess calmed down the spice and it was just delectable. It was so spicy that I had some stomach pain after, but the shrimp was also definitely basically completely raw as well. Take that as you will but every shrimp was perfectly deveined and this aguachile was a 1000/10. Thank you to the cooks and cashiers here! All super nice. We asked for more tostadas and they gave it to us free of charge. When the cashier told the cook, he was like "IS IT DELICIOUS" and we shouted across the restaurant that IT IS SUPER DELICIOUS. I'd heard about the place, and had always wanted to try it. I really, really enjoyed the experience. Most delightful dinner I've had in a long time. I can't wait to go back. I say these things because I'm going to have a couple negatives to go along with the praise, and I want to make it clear that I highly recommend the place as a fun, enjoyable dining experience. First, I'll go over the plusses. The view of the lake is serene and enjoyable. Really makes for an enjoyable dining experience. Call it Tahoe Junior. I highly recommend the bottom level of the restaurant, which has an elevated menu with higher pricing over the top level casual dining. Better aesthetics and menu make it worth it. They also do have a bargain menu of smaller portions if you can live with smaller portions. (Not me, lol.) You can see the menu at their site. Prices are typical Nicer eatery level. ($50+.) I had the ribeye. Typical quality. Well prepared. Featured a NICE proprietary blue cheese butter spread. Umm, yummy! I want more! Also loved the peach ice tea. More yummy. I overdose everything in sweetener, so I recommend that. Staff was first rate. Darn near everything about the visit was great from start to finish. Now for my negatives... The bread was these Tiny little slices of (I suppose) Italian bread. I wasn't familiar with it. Perhaps it's a standard four-bite bread type. Certainly didn't work for me. Bite-size is not really what I want in dinner bread... Veggies were bleh. Broccolini and carrots. Did nothing for me. We now come to the big disappointment and the Offense... No baked potato, but mashed potatoes! I can't recall the last time I ordered a quality steak that came with mashed potatoes instead of a BAKED potato! "No big deal," I thought. "I'll order a baked potato." The Up Charge was $9! You heard that right. NINE DOLLARS to swap baked for mashed! I might expect $9 for a potato at Ruth's Chris, but gosh! NINE DOLLARS?! The whole table was offended. That did not ruin the meal for us. We all enjoyed it and planned to return, but we ALL thought NINE DOLLARS for a potato--and we're not talking a huge one either, though it was decent in size--was insane. Absolutely insane. Fixins did not include bacon bits, which surprised me, but not every place offers them so okay. That's it. Full dinner and drinks for 4 was a bit under $300. Enjoyed ourselves, going back, but we don't understand the outrageous price on the potato. Tagging the visit at a 4, and recommending Ducey's. Be prepared for mashed... Shown--dinner and the $9 potato :)
