We usually stop at the Denny's at the WI Dells but decided to stop here instead. What a mistake! The scrambled eggs were not fresh. (I couldn't tell if they were premade and then microwaved or if it was a container of liquid egg product that was used.) Every other item we ordered was dry and overcooked (waffle, chicken sandwich, french fries). Even the coffee was burned (and came in a coffee cup that could not have been more than 6 oz). There was one waitress for 7 tables and 2 men at the counter, and she was pretty useless. We had to ask twice for a fork, ketchup, and the check. She was very busy laughing and joking with a friend in the doorway while two other customers stood at the cash register waiting to pay. We stopped for a quick lunch on our way home from vacation, but with the terrible service it took over an hour. I was very frustrated by the time we left. read more

Waited an hour for food. Actually crazy. Then they stopped accepting guests at half capacity because they couldn't keep up. They were extremely rude about it... just the tone. Stay away, unless you like being treated poorly and getting subpar service. read more

I appreciate that the servers are doing the best they can. However, we waited for over an hour for our food while traveling and stopping in for a "quick" bite to eat. Wasted all that time that we could have been on the road. When we came in the restaurant was not busy and slowly became backed due to the fact their "professional" chef had the day off. Now, that makes me question management since thanksgiving weekend is the busiest travel holiday in the year. What are they thinking? Also 2 cups of coffee during that hour wait and no explanation. #37/1023 Well it's been 2 years since the last time I reviewed this one so it's time for an update. A whole lot of changes of course two years ago we were just coming out to covid slowly in a changed world however there is like many other differences. Gone are the waffles not to come back Can you changes here and there still rotating they do is they have for a few years now. This one's back to 24 hours again provided fully staffed in fact most all of the old Hardy platters that were converted in the Kwik Trip plazas to Denny's are now back to 24. Still big with the locals they like to come down here. I came in had cheddar scramble and eggs soft with pancakes opted for the 99 cents to add the blueberries like I like to and went with all sausage links. Excellent Breakfast even though they let everyone know " no hashbrowns, red potatoes, & gravies were not available" I had the Bourbon Chicken and asked for more Broccoli as no red potatoes. Lots of food I ATE THE WHOLE THING! MY Hubby had a breakfast but let our amazing waitress to let the Chef know to really work on a skillet as onion taste in his eggs & bacon. She wanted to redo, he said no not necessary. At the end she brought out French Toast & Bacon to go. Totally unexpected but very nice. Went to the Mauston, WI location 6/18/23 noon and waited over an hour for mediocre food, especially for the price (it tasted as though some of the food was ready for awhile). People with simpler meals who sat after us received their food first. After complaining, we were told the kitchen was understaffed and only got a sorry from the manager. We were traveling through Mauston and this put us way behind schedule. We should have been told when being seated that the wait for meals would be really long due to kitchen staff issues, so we could have gone somewhere else. Waited nearly 40 minutes for our eggs, hash browns and pancakes. When I asked why it was running so late, I was told the the cooks were working hard. Eggs were burnt, the hash browns and eggs tasted like fried shrimp. The multigrain pancakes were good. We will not stop here on our travels again. read more

Service took forever. We were driving and wanted to stop for a quick sit down meal. We waited and waited for our simple food of an omelette and sandwich. I wish we wouldn't have stopped here because we wasted so much time waiting for the meal to be served. It was nice to have a Senior menu but the only lunch choice was a cheese sandwich and tomato soup. Come on Denny's. That seems like more of a kids meal than something a Senior would like. Wish there was a bit more of a choice. When food came it was okay other than the omelette being very greasy. There was a loud beeping noise coming from the kitchen that disturbed our dining. I am a transgender woman and I stopped at the Denny's in Mauston for breakfast, I am only 9 months into my transition and I was just wearing a T-shirt and sweat pants, I drive a truck, and I didn't have makeup on. The wait staff never once misgendered me and they were simply amazing and made me feel great. it validated me as a trans woman. I can't even begin to tell you how wonderful that was. There was a group of about 6 or 7 seated near us and it appeared that the two waitresses that worked this area knew them because one was setting with them, I supposed on brake of something. Their attention was primarily with them and our table and another one next to us were waiting to order. The group of 7 was getting ready to leave so the one waitress came to take our order. I was very specific that my wife and I were on one check and the two other ladies were separate checks also. There was se confusion with one of the ladies order because she wanted a bacon and egg sandwich on toast and it's not on the menu but worked it out as some sort of slam breakfast but made it into a sandwich. The waitress seemed that she was in a hurry and started walking away and our lady friend called out "miss" to inform her she didn't want cheese on her sandwich. The waitress walked half way to our table and had a strange look and said It's Not Miss It's " so n so" I don't remember what name she said but that was weird. Our lady friend apologized. She then rushed to the tables where the group was seated and retrieved the tips left there. A couple bucks here a couple bucks there but where this one guy was setting there was a $10 bill. She snatched it up and made sure to show the other waitress. The other waitress got pissed and said something like that was meant for her. She was the one that was setting with them when we got there. They volleyed comments across the dining area for a bit one by the counter seating area the other about 20 feet away in the back table area. The one waitress started busing the table where the group was and was slamming the dishes and cups into the rubber dish pan. I'm sure a couple of the glasses were smashed. All this was kinda startling most of us waiting for our food. Our waitress and the other one continued having words at the far end of the counter and the one lady with us noticed that there were like a half dozen plates setting under the hot lamp and mentioned if her food was cold she was going to complain. The other lady with us didn't want to cause a scene. As she had figured those plates were ours and they finely brought them to us. My pancake and French toast was room temperature eggs were warm and my bacon was as clear as seran wrap ( very rare) and was sliced as thin as toilet paper seriously. I've never had bacon like that at any Denny's. The wife's scramble was good and hot because it was served on a cast iron pan. The one lady's bacon n egg on toast with mayo was room temp toast was dried out like Melba toast ( just crumbled) her bacon was clear also. I was gong to say something to the manager but the ladies said he would probably call the waitresses over and there would be a big scene and they were probably right. These two girls weren't afraid of causing a scene for sure. The manager walked by and I think he noticed a lot of the food was left on the plates and ashes if everything was ok We all gave each other a look as if to see who was going to do it but we said it was ok. I don't like feeling that way when I go out to eat and especially when your paying good money for crap food and service. But as I have mentioned in many of my reviews in this area I have never seen more pissed off food service help anywhere. From fast food to sit down $20 per person dinner places. Chicken strips were hot, seasoned veggies were cooked and seasoned perfectly. The cinnamon pancake balls were like hot donuts that melt in your mouth... yummy! The service was prompt and friendly, restaurant was clean. Plenty of TVs to watch and relax. read more

Worst service I even had. Waited ten minutes to get seated in an almost empty place. 10 minutes to place an hour for food and drinks. After waiting forty minutes for at least our drinks and asking for them twice I sent my son next door to kwik trip for drinks for us. We order a sampler and a bacon cheeseburger nothing that takes 50 minutes to get. My burger came out on two slices of bread and nothing else sent it back for the cheese and bacon. Waited for a check that never came got a different waitress to get a box. Then I go To pay and the drinks we order are on the bill that we never got. Never ever will I stop there again. I have never been to a restaurant that had such poor service. I asked for a bowl of soup that was cold the crackers were stale. We were givin one glass of water. We asked for more to wait almost 10 minutes. Finally the host gave us water after waiting 40 min. Are food arrived. Mind you a man was seated across from us no water to server he finally got up and left. The host came threw and was looking for him after he was gone alrady 15min. Our waitress told us there are bigger parties in the back that our food will be out shortly? Really when it came to us it was cold of course!!! Nice newer location at one end of Kwik Trip Truck Stop and Gas Station. Stopped for early dinner about 1pm on Friday afternoon. Dad and I were seated promptly and Hostess took our drink order. Server came with our drinks and took our orders right away. Food came out quickly. My dad really liked his "Over 55" Steak Skewer meal, and they did a great job on my favorite Prime Rib Cobb Salad. In a word: terrible! Ordered grilled chicken sandwich and HOT green tea. A tea bag with barely warm water arrived, as did the "grilled" chicken sandwich. Grilled means hot, right? This was refrigerator cold. It had two strips of limp greasy bacon, a thin slice of half ripe tomato and a couple of sliced pickles. Came with a steak knife and I soon found out why---chicken defied cutting even with that knife. I couldn't eat any of it. Waited and WAITED--no one came to check, though lots of employes milling around. Finally, I just got up and went to the cashier without a check. The bill was $11.00+. I told him the food was inedible. I got a weak "sorry" and no offer to reduce the bill. I was so furious I sent a complaint to Kwik Trip headquarters. All I received was one of those "canned" form replies saying they were always glad to hear from their customers! Obviously, they really don't care. My fiancé and I went out to dinner last night. I got a Cobb salad and ordered it without bacon. When it arrived to the table, it had bacon on it. The waitress asked if she could just take off the bacon or if she should make a whole new salad. I told her I'm Jewish so I can't eat the salad if bacon touched it and I told her to please make a new salad. Its not as if I didn't want bacon on it because I simply don't like it or that I didn't want it for health reasons. She made it appear as though she made a whole new salad though upon receiving the bowl it was obvious that she used the same ingredients from before and I immediately spotted a piece of bacon in the salad. I spoke with the manager and showed him the piece of bacon from my salad and asked not to be charged for the meal. Afterwards she came up to apologize explaining that the bacon must have been in the dressing. It wasn't in the dressing it was right on top of my salad and I didn't appreciate the disrespect to my religious beliefs and being lied to my face. As a result of my military background, I value integrity. Needless to say she did not receive a tip. I live less than a block away and while I haven't visited this Denny's often it is highly unlikely I will eat there again as I cannot trust the integrity of the food or the waitstaff to be accommodating.
