The meal was pretty good, the service was perfect, but I found it strange that they were just playing Mexican music in a Denny's breakfast restaurant. Lake Forest is an extremely diverse city; one can literally look around the restaurant and see all races present. I could understand if this was a Mexican restaurant, but it is not, and a neutral option (like jazz) in this atmosphere would make all feel welcomed which be a better option. read more

What has happened to this Denny's? I previously left a 5star review and had been dining her about once a month, but I this time was a total disaster. 'no we don't have zuccini' 'no we don't have sour dough bread' Then they served my meal on a tiny plate, smaller than my friend's plate. A little less than a handful of fries. My friend's "poached eggs" came in a little bowl that was filled with water; somehow the chef forgot how to poach an egg. A total disappointment. Hubby and I decided to spend a low key Thanksgiving. We saw a movie and then went to Denny's. Neither one of us had been to Denny's for about 10 years. On a holiday we were not expecting much. It has been about a year since I had been here and the grand slam breakfast was about $6 with a coke about $8 plus tip total $10. Same meal today $22 with tip. Staff was very friendly but the food quantity was down right poor. 2 strips of the thinnest bacon and tasteless, 2 lukewarm eggs, hash browns and 2 pancakes. It took several minutes to get the maple syrup to come out of the bottle due to the limiter they had on it. Not worth $22 at all which would explain why at almost 6 pm they were empty. I ordered a late night meal with Ubereats and asked for no cheese becuse I cant eat dairy. I order form Ubereats often, and I understand how the app works. This is entirely on the resturant. After work I went to Denny's .The positivity and professionalism that I was greeted with was something I would equate to a five star restaurant. The server Juan was very hospitable and accommodating. This is rare nowadays when you go out to restaurants especially when it's later in the evening in the workday is almost done. Juan gave me options for my food that I didn't even think of and he did it in a inviting way and not a pushing /promoting way. I had placed a to go order and he even went through and showed me everything that was in the bag so I knew I would be satisfied with everything I had ordered and he explained why some of the food was organize the way it was. I was so impressed I asked if I could speak to his manager. That is when I met Edwardo. Edwardo immediately greeted me with a smile and when I gave him the compliment Of his staff member you could tell he had a lot of pride with his employees and with his work. He explained how this particular employee has worked his way up. He also explained that he stresses importance and proper training on how to socializes people when you are at the register, when you're at the table, and when you answer the phone lines. This is an artform lost at many businesses. It is so wonderful to see a manager who really cares about his employees and the success of the company that he was working for. Coming here for Christmas would be absolutely the last thing I would chose to do, but for the in laws I figured suck it up. The service was fantastic, they really have great crew working here and the food came out quickly despite being so busy. What is just really unacceptable is the food. I would put it right there between hospital and airplane meals, the salmon such bad quality, the salads overdressed, the breakfast dishes had no flavor whatsoever, just very very basic cheap food. Not that I go to a ton of Denny's but if you want a standard breakfast without paying a lot or resorting to fast food it's where you'll find me once in a while. Then the waiter was nice enough to tell us that they are extra busy because the health department shut down the other restaurant on Alicia parkway, not what you want to hear when you're about to eat. We left half of our food on our plates, paid for our nasty meal and left. On our way out another overflowing trash can with soiled diapers on top. Its a bummer they don't serve fresh orange juice. It was a little bit noisy but hey, you're at Denny's what are expect! For All american, bacons taste amazing and hash-brown portion is huge but little bit uncooked with massive scrambled eggs and cheddar cheese. If you're okay to start your day with a spicy dish Santa fe skillet is the one. Everything cooked to its perfection, right amount of ingredients and seasoning made this dish my absolute choice. I come to this place all the time and today was REALLY disappointing! We had to ask for our bill (and and a couple other customers were trying to figure out where to pay their bill because no one seem to be there to take our money)because we've been waiting for it for the longest time. We only saw our service associate twice--taking our order and dropping off our order. There was only two of us and we got a total of 4 cups of coffee because we can't get anyone. We can't even bring to their attention that our order was missing sautéed mushrooms--we have to bring it up at the cash register so that we don't get charge--so we didn't get charge. But as I got home, about to toss my receipt, I noticed that I got charged for 4 CUPS of coffee. So I called and asked how they charge for coffee when you order a cup--you're suppose to get charged once and refills are free...we got a total of 4 cups of coffee and got charged for 4. The person who picked up the phone said that they'll refund us when we stop by with our reciept or not charge us coffee for our next visit--I'll be seeing this when I go back to get my money back of $3.69X2-it's not much but I'm just so disappointed and inconvenienced that when I'm in the neighborhood.,I'll definitely get my refund. And for those who are wondering, we didn't leave any tip. We didn't even have time or opportunity to give tip (if we wanted to) because no one was there to hand our bill and when we got to the counter where we can pay.,no one seems to want to take our money! This Denny's runs like a well-oiled machine. They are very efficient here and get people in and out quickly all while providing great service. I had read online about the Denny's in the nearby area and was impressed by the El Toro location's 4-star rating so I decided to see for myself. The place was decked out to the nines in all american paraphernalia: red, white, and blue banners strung up on the ceilings, american flags, and it was literally a full house. The whole restaurant was bustling and noisy and you could tell that business was very good. It's a good sign when a restaurant is as busy as it was. We had read about Fernando and his amazing service and lo and behold, we got him as our waiter! He was extremely gracious and friendly and upbeat and gentlemanly (weird for a Denny's but appreciated!). My bf ordered the bday grand slam and i got this sticky bun french toast thing that was too sweet. It wasn't bad..just a little sweet. And what I thought were sugared nuts just seemed to be crunch balls of sugar. I'd like to try the banana nut and honey french toast but I'm afraid that it would be too sweet also. Most of the white on one of my eggs was missing (they definitely move fast in the kitchen). They were nice enough to honor the free bday grand slam despite it being the day after his bday. Got here around breakfast time was very full only had to wait like a minute to be seated. Ordered our food and received it really quickly. The coffee was very watered down so we had to order a hot chocolate instead. He still charged us for the coffee. Not a big deal I guess just wish they had fixed the problem. By far the best experience ever at this Denny's location. Starting with an excellent greeting from Jessie the General manager, greet my family like no other and seat us immediately. At the table we were greeted by Dayanna G., well let me tell you something, she was the most professional server, she even remember us from previous visits to this location, she got our drink order (party of 4), brought those drinks In less than 2 minutes!! Wooowwwwwwww!! She got our food order, repeat everything back to us to make sure she got the right items, our food was delivery at the table in less that 7-8 minutes! That was fantastic. She personally delivery the food to our table to make sure everything was right. She kept checking on us every 10 which that tells me we were on her mind and she didn't forget about us. I asked for a cup of hot water. The cup had lipstick mark on it. So I asked for a change of cup. She brought the same cup; after washing (hand washed) the same cup since I saw water dropped all on the outside of the cup. It was not dried. This made my day!!!!!!! OBTW, the food was cold.
