I've always liked Denny's restaurants. I've been to dozens of them in dozens of different areas. In the Jasper area, there are two Denny's, one in Dale and one in Jasper. Both are very good, but the Jasper one is much the best, because it is consistently great. The other one is off of the expressway, so they can often get unexpected crowds and run out of things, but they are also good. This one is Jasper has a very comfortable atmosphere, and the service is excellent. Everyone there is very polite. The bar is high for restaurants in southwestern Indiana, and this Denny's still stands out as a great place. I usually get breakfast if I go there, and I guess I go there about once every two months since I've lived in Dubois County, and that's been five years now, but I have been there for supper, too. Both are great. I go for a cheese omelet at breakfast, with home fries and biscuit, and all are excellent. The suppers are also great. I've had the wild caught salmon a few times, and I've had grilled chicken sandwich dinner once, and these are excellent. Steamed brocolli is also very good. What they didn't know: We spent a long day at holiday World and as we headed home that was the 3rd restaurant we tried sitting down and getting service at. I stopped in the Denny's Jasper, In after my family and I went to the game and the manager is so unprofessional talking down to servers and actually had herpes on her mouth and when the other manager asked her to cover up with a mask she refused to, She was so rude. our food was cold and when my wife complained to the server about her food and the hair in food the server was rude and dismissive towards her and when asked to speak with the manager she came out and told us there was nothing she could do for us. My 5 year old, and myself went to Dennys today, she ordered the birthday cake pancakes, side of scrambled eggs. I got the super bird with seasoned fries. The pancakes had so much icing it looked as if they scooped a whole thing of icing on it and smothered rhe pancakes, it was so much she only took a few bites, she did however enjoy the eggs. My super bird, which I always get at any Dennys was the worst I have ever had, the bread was super hard. My fries tasted as if they have not changed their fryer oil in a long long time. I still drop in here, every now and then, more or less, just for a quick cheap meal. My experience here on Friday, August 1st. was less than fulfilling. The place has had its ups and downs since around the time Covid bared it's ugly head. Staff turnover is rampant. The waitress pool turns over completely about once monthly, and the candidates seem to be using the place simply as a stopover, on the way to better employment. On this particular night, there was a brand new cook, and he hadn't yet learned the ropes. The customers were stacking up, with food deliveries to the tables running at a snail's pace. My food finally arrived after about an hour's wait, minus the sausage and bacon. There was one bright spot during this ordeal. My waitress, Presley, was quite accommodating throughout the evening, approaching irritated customers, with her kind persona, explaining the kitchen problem, and reassuring the customers that they weren't forgotten. Hopefully, the restaurant will be able to retain her, as she may be just what they need to begin rebuilding a loyal customer following. read more

I've been here twice. Both times the same waitress is so loud and obnoxious. She kept yelling "it's baby daddy day, my baby daddy was in here earlier." The she wanted the cook to make her two cheese burger patties with cheese and bacon no bun. I know this because she yelled it repeatedly I counted 8 times in English and one attempt in Spanish. I also know she just moved and has no groceries at home because she yelled that out too multiple times. She was so loud and obnoxious it was hard to have a conversation at my table. Everything is said multiple times and so loud. Normally when I'm talking to someone in a public place I go over to them not yell across the restaurant. The other employees looked embarrassed by her. I actually am a Denny's lover. This Denny's deserves 2.5 stars but can't do that here so I always go high side. When were there they were out of quite a few items and we were the last people to get their pancake balls. I love how one person on here said how can you be out of bread when you have a walmart right there. Well they were our of biscuits with a Walmart right there. Waitress was very good. We have attended this Denny's before it was not that bad. It is actually a good stop before or after Holiday World. After this trip I think my family is done with this Dennys. It's so hard to give this place a bad review because of the employees! The employees are nice and attentive. The food however was undercooked and the floors were so nasty. A clean and comfortable stop during our last minute Christmas visits. Excellent service. Clean restrooms. Great management and superior staff. We were welcomed in and felt at home during our visit. I wasn't sure I'd actually do it, but I'm giving you two stars. We arrived at about 6:30 pm. There were only about four tables that had people sitting at them that had not already been served. The waitress was great, she came right away to our table. We ordered the sirloin steak with mashed potatoes and gravy with a side salad. The salad was great. The salad arrived about 10 minutes after our order was taken.(By the way the waitress made the salad) We sat there waiting on the rest of our food for over 40 minutes. When our food was ready to come out, we had already eaten our salad and we're just sitting there. The waitress comes to our table and says that there's a problem. The problem is they're out of mashed potatoes and gravy. They offered us some baked macaroni, which is gross, corn, which my mother chokes on. She's older and she can't swallow it very good. We could've had Lord knows what else gross Alternatives they gave us none of them suitable. Finally she said oh we have red skin potatoes. Never having eaten their red skin potatoes before I assumed that they were boiled potatoes that you just add butter to. I told her OK we'll make that work. Just bring lots of butter and some gravy on the side. When she brought it, they were fried potatoes and little bitty nubbin bits at that. I don't do well with grease, I looked at her and said oh they're fried and she said yeah. I forgot to mention that my steak came about 20 minutes before my potatoes. So I ate my steak without any vegetables, and then I had my nasty potatoes covered and gravy with out the steak or eat the steak cold. My mother just said forget it and packed it home for her dog.I am 60 years old and I would say this is probably the worst meal I've ever been served. The steaks were so tough that my mother could not even chew hers and I barely could chew mine. It took determination to get through it. I was hungry so I tried. We could've got up and left but if we did, would we have been expected to pay for the salad by itself which would've been a little less than half the price of what our meal was going to be? If I known for sure that I wouldn't have to pay for it I would've walked out when I found out they didn't have adequate food to cover our order . And why did they wait 40 minutes to tell us that they didn't have everything they needed? Do they not know how to look ahead and see what is needed? I also overheard a conversation between the waitress and the guy that came from GrubHub. Part of the order that had been placed for him to pick up they were not able to fill. Wow that would put you in a really weird position wouldn't it? What if the people you're picking up for don't want the food if it's not all there?Are you going to get paid for picking it up? Are you just going to pick up what you can hoping that they're still going to want it? If I was paying somebody from GrubHub to pick up my food, and I only got part of it, I would not be happy. It's not cheap to have your food delivered. I know it's hard to get good help nowadays. It seems like nobody wants to actually work and serve others, but if you're going to apply somewhere for a job that you're going to have to serve, then you should be willing to serve whether you want to or not. I was told that the cook said everybody there was going to wait at least 40 minutes before they were served because somebody had complained about it taking so long to get their food. I think that cook needs a different job. Apparently he is not content where he is at or he would be happy to please the people. Maybe he doesn't need a job and he just does this for fun and tonight wasn't fun for him. Regardless of the reason, we ended up leaving there at about 2 hours later. I actually thought it would be a quick place to stop and have supper. I was so wrong. I was very disappointed with this experience. I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone. I would, however recommend the waitress I had tonight to any place that wants a decent waitress. She was good. I intend to call the manager in the morning, unless I get some sort of resolution with him or her, I won't be returning. read more

I understand that things are bad since covid but this was horrible, honestly I love going to Denny's for pancakes usually on Friday nights after work, but if staff is going to be so stressed that they are yelling the Fword across the room and then completely going MIA for 20 minutes. We ate there twice during our visit to French Lick. When we saw the notice on the front door advertising for cooks, waitresses, etc. we should have known better than to stay. The first morning we were there over an hour and 15 minutes having breakfast (just 2 of us). The second day it was an hour. We saw people leave without having their food, customers waited at least 30 minutes to even get coffee and all the waitresses seemed frazzled. Obviously the problem was in the kitchen but something needs to be done to fix this before they go under. I went there with a family of 5- we made the mistake of going on a Saturday night. We waited probably 10 min. to be seated, with no warning by the host that there was a wait time. He showed us to a booth and walked off without offering to bring high chairs for our 2 little ones, so I went and got them myself. Then we sat there for another 20 minutes without anyone acknowledging our presence- not even asking what we wanted to drink. 20 min. feels like an eternity with 3 little ones who don't have drinks or children's menus to keep them busy, so we just got up and left. The kicker was when we got up to leave, there was a Denny's employee sitting at the booth right in front of us! It would have been hard for her not to hear us asking each other how it was starting to feel like a long time since we were seated. We left and went somewhere else. We have visited here a couple times on our trip to Jasper....mainly because there's not much else available. The 1st time the service was so bad that several parties walked out without being served. We stuck it through though because they were pretty busy but wish we hadn't. Food wasn't that great and all of our orders were wrong in some way. We went again a week later despite that experience and again got such bad service with only a few tables being occupied in the whole restaurant. It took 40min for the waiter to take our drink order and then the drinks never came! All the while the waiter was shooting the breeze with a table nearby. We could hear the conversation and it had nothing to do with orders. After seeing another party get up and leave without being served (in a restaurant with only 6 tables occupied) we got up and left too. Pathetic!!!!!! Poorly managed!!!!! Poorly staffed!!!!!! Honestly the food quality has always been average-mediocre, but every time I "end up" coming here I'm glad that I did. I enjoy the neighborly atmosphere, the interior's recently remodeled and very clean at all times. Service is excellent at all times and I've never had a problem.
