This is my first time coming here. I usally dont have a chance to eat out as much as I would like,…read morebut vecause of work, I was able to try here since I've seen it a few times as i pass by for work. I dont come to Jackson CA, city that often other than work, but i was hungry to try somewhere new. At first, coming in, made it feel very old school and homey feeling. Still holding on to traditional looks and feels. I love that about this place. When it came to seating me and ordering, it was pretty quick, I did pop in at about 2ish and got my food at about 245, not bad on time but it was the lunch hour rush, I couldnt expect much. I order the sourdough burger and i got it with the 1/3pound patty instead of the 1/4 pound. I believe it was the best choice for this kind of burger and I dont think it was a bad choice either. I really recommended this place, especially since its been here for 70+ years! Thank you for a good time and for the food!

Mel & Faye's isn't just a diner to us... it's home…read more This place will always hold a special spot in our hearts. We moved out of state, and we still haven't found...and probably never will find...another place quite like Mel & Faye's. It's the food, the drinks, the service, but more than anything, it's the people. My go-to is the cranberry walnut salad with chicken (so good!), and Sean loves the sourdough burger. The food is always great, but honestly, we come back for the atmosphere and the people who make this place feel like family. Mary is always a hoot as our server, and we absolutely love the entire staff. Bart and Maura have created something really special here, and we appreciate them more than they know. Every time we come back to town, one of the things we look forward to most is walking through those doors, seeing familiar faces, catching up, and feeling right at home again. We miss everyone when we're away, but it makes our visits that much more special. Mel & Faye's will always be our home away from home.

We loved that place and the people and, good god, we did love the food. From the gate there was 1 obvious new change that caused us to immediately have to re-think our plans... No bottomless mimosas ! Nothing like that of any kind! They sold their liqour license! So... okay. We'll have sodas, just this once , and try to keep an open positive mind and attitude. New people, old menu, newbie staff, try to be patient, and all that stuff, you know... considered. We got seated quickly enough. and then we saw the menu. They had made up a story about how the diner got it's nickname "The Dead Fly Diner". How would I know? My father coined that phrase during a county fair week when they were expanding the dining area and they had to keep it open and the flys, they did come a buzzin'. But they made up a whole other story of how that came to be. * Flash to Lloyd Bentsen "Senator, I knew the Dead Fly Diner. The Dead Fly Diner was a friend of mine. Senator, you're no Dead Fly Diner". So we bravely ordered our old favorites off the lying menu and were alarmed at the prices as they had nearly doubled since Covid!... but no matter. This was now a fact-finding mission: Was the food quality and quantity maintained? Their signature burger, "The Dead Fly" was now offered more or less stripped of its usual accoutrements which could be added for a fee so add cheese (3 slices) , ham slices (3), and ortega chile (1 big guy), and a diet cola. I thought the bill may have begun to approach house payment status, but soldiered forward. Some time later... ("some" time? OH yeah... 42 minutes or so, and it wasn't even busy) The food arrived and the ice had melted in my cola and turned to water which was the only water available, as no one checked us for need of refills. Ever. But nevermind about that. The biggest kick in the cahones was that they charged for the burger toppins and did NOT include them on a plate at all... and they never did. Oh, I waited for the waitress to ask the usual "how is everything, fellas'?", but did she ever set sail for our part of the seating area? I will just... let you guess. So I was on the hook for a nearly $50 buck (Burger + non-existant extras+ cola + 20% tip) lunch that was, from beginning to end, a raging disappointment. Remember, We WANTED to love it, and we really did wish the new owners the best of luck. However, It will be some time before we brave going back. ("Some time?" OH yeah).

The second meal was the fish sandwich with onion rings. The onion rings again were overcooked, and the fish was old. The third meal was a chili Verde dinner in a small cup of chili Verde with small bits of pork. The flavor was good, but definitely was not a dinner, it came with double beans instead of rice, which were good, but they put on wilted lettuce, if that's all they had then just don't put it on the plate, we will not return.

Experienced the worst service ever. Went in late at night, approximately (6) tables, including us, and (3) servers and a bus person working. First, as we were entering the restaurant we observed our server right out in front of the main entrance smoking with her friends. We were seated, ordered and received our drinks, then we waited and waited and waited... Our drinks ran out and our server was no where to be found. I went looking for her to see if we could get refills and could not find her. There was another server at the end of the counter, but he was too busy on his cell phone to assist me. Eventually I found another employee and they let our server know we needed refills. Finally we received our food, however, the server forgot to bring our salad dressing and side items... 15 minutes later she brought those items out. After she served us she went on to sit at a table across the room with her friends that she was outside smoking with when we arrived. She never came back to check on us. We finished eating and by then she disappeared again. We again waited and waited to get to go boxes and our ticket, but of course, no one was around. We eventually found the bus person and got our to go box. And if it couldn't get worse, we went to the counter to pay, but our server again was no where to be found. We waited, she never showed and no one else offered to assist us, so we had no option but to leave! As we were leaving, we saw her and her friends, and other workers, outside the front of the restaurant, smoking. They did not even acknowledge us leaving. Needless to say, we are locals and will never go back and will definitely tell our friends. And the only reason that I am giving this (1) Star is because the food, once we received it, was good. read more

I recently visited Denny's and had a pretty solid experience overall. It's exactly what you expect from a classic American diner -- casual atmosphere, big portions, and affordable prices. The menu has a ton of options, whether you're craving breakfast all day, a burger, or something sweet. I ordered the Grand Slam (a favorite) and it came out hot and fast. The pancakes were fluffy, the bacon was crispy, and everything tasted fresh. Coffee was refilled regularly and the server was friendly and attentive without hovering. The place was clean, and even though it was a bit busy, the wait wasn't bad at all. It's a Denny's so truthfully you can't expect much. It's always been my late night go to place so I was a little disappointed when they changed their hours. I think it is a good idea though because people are less likely to drink and drive to get Denny's at night. I also believe it helps keep the local "night crawlers" away. read more

Still, the food was top notch and so was the service. We'll definitely be back, and when we do come back, we'll clear our afternoon calendar for a nap.

The menu overall offers a variety of breakfast items, lots of hamburgers, and a variety of other dishes. Nothing exciting and about what you would expect. Jackson Rancheria puts so much pride into everything else and it's a little sad to see the food quality be neglected.
