I was referred to this shop by another Porsche Cayenne owner for a oil change . He had his oil changed and requested for them to use Porsche recommended oil Mobile 1. I reached out to them to schedule a oil change for my wife Porsche Cayenne and requested that they used mobile 1 oil . I was told by Scott that they couldn't get the mobile 1 oil but he could do the oil change using a different oil Tatol . This is by far the best automotive repair experience I have had in many moons, including multiple "luxury" dealerships and indie specialty shops. Friendly, informative and well versed in the technical needs of my car. Far better pricing and service than the local "Stealership". And as an added bonus, they keep a very clean shop. They accurately and swiftly assessed the service needs of my car, and were also very familiar with other potential issues of this make, taking the time to assess any other potential concerns with my model year. I also like that they are aware of "known" issues of particular manufacturers and will not hesitate to inform you if your issue could be better served under warranty by the dealership. Having my wife's BMW car worked on at different places. I am cautious giving automotive businesses really high marks early on especially repair places. I have done that in the past to only get disappointed later on. To pay good money to not get issues taken care of in the first place sucks. It's like putting a bandaid on broken arm. It's been worked on but the problem is still there. Dennis Sherman is not that place. They are honest and upfront with repairs and quotes. The job is done right the first time and the price. If it's not low. It's at least lower than their competitors. I have gone here at least half a dozen times for different car issues~ from breaks to headlights. I have been satisfied with their work every time. Repairs that are actual fixes not temporary repairs. Dennis Sherman uses name brand parts not cheap imitations. The work is done in a timely manner. Depending on the type of work being done. It's usually ready in a day or two. Support local businesses especially the good ones. Dennis Sherman is one of the good ones. They are dependable. I know my name might imply otherwise ;), but this is the sort of review I truly hate to write. The folks here are kind and seem like good humans. However, after taking our car in twice, we won't be going back again. The first time was for an issue with the coolant draining. They replaced the radiator and we were assured the problem should be fixed. However, coolant continued to drain very quickly over the next few months, and eventually more or less exploded in a big dramatic steam event that led to us (obviously) bringing it back in. We were expecting to chalk this up to "they just didn't find the problem the first time, it happens..." but were told there was a note in our file from our previous visit that one of the hoses had an issue and needed to be fixed - information we had not been given at the time of the first repair. When we went to pick up our car this time, there was an 8 inch long crack across the driver's sight line in the windshield that was not there when we dropped the car off. We did not take pictures of the car before leaving it, which I regret. Though they are offering to connect us with someone who can give us a good deal on the repair, it's still an additional $250 expense on an issue our car didn't have before we left it in their care and paid them for about $900 worth of non-windshield related work. I'm open to the idea that this crack may have already been started, not noticed by us, and exacerbated by the work they did - but in combination with our coolant experience, it's left us hesitant to return. So unfortunately, based on our two experiences, we can't recommend this shop, and will be looking for an alternative the next time we need something done on our Volkswagen. read more

I remember the days when buying a new battery was quick easy and not a crazy amount of money, but those days are gone. And owning a foreign car adds to the cost, so when I called the dealership because my car battery was dead, I was quoted $600+ for my 2019 BMW X1 battery, and began calling around. This shop had great reviews so I took the chance and know that I have now found my new mechanic. Both Scott and Ray took the time to talk me through all that needed to be done besides just popping in the new battery, which includes reseting the battery and making sure the computer resets successfully. Sadly my car gave them issues, but they kept me informed the whole time and I was able to pick up my car the next day because they wanted to make sure that everything was perfect before getting me back on the road. The honesty and communication was above and beyond, will for sure be a customer for life! read more

Once again Dennis Sherman Foreign is the best place to take your vehicle, they are honest and trustworthy with reliable service. My oil light came on in my car and service wasn't due until November but they explained that as my car gets older I will use more oil. It was nice to know the reason behind the oil light warning and how they explained everything to you without making you feel silly about not knowing anything about your car. I'm a woman and I appreciate it. They never tell me to fix anything I don't need. They are better than the dealer and always put genuine parts in your vehicle. read more

So I was looking for a car to buy but before I bought it I wanted Scott to take a look at it. I called around to other shops to see how much an inspection would be. One place in Oceanside wanted 250 bucks for an inspection and a place in La Mesa wanted 168. Scott did the inspection for 120 bucks. Scott was great from the second we spoke on the phone to the minute I left the shop. After my inspection was done he had a report of everything that needed to be fixed. Even little stuff which was nice because I wanted to know everything about this car before I bought it. Well I didn't buy that car so I bought a different 5 series but I will most likely take my new car to Dennis Sherman. Oh also this is one of the cleanest shops I've been in. read more

After an oil change at BMW SD, they handed Me a quote for $2k for additional service for a variety of reasons. I handed this directly over to Dennis Sherman. They made their assessments, my services rendered were a little over $200 with a courtesy tire rotation and recommendation to come back in 10k miles for another service. From word of mouth, their mechanics have years of experience, lots of parts on hand, and trustworthy! My car continues to run smoothly and I'm a happy customer! Although I have used these guys before this was the first time I had a bad experience. There were several issues with the service this time but the one that I find most upsetting was I told them check the gas cap before putting the car on a code reader and they didn't. Instead they charged me the $98 to tell me the gas cap needed to be replaced. Then they said I had a overheating issue that should be fixed. The car had no overheating issue when I took it in. They replaced the coolant reservoir ( $567) because it had superficial cracks and then said they needed to replace the thermostat ($370). I took the car in because of a fluid leak and the engine light being on. Hopefully the work they did fixes the problem. read more

I have been going to Dennis Sherman for many years now and have always received solid, trustworthy mechanical work on my VW TDi. The shop is very clean and whomever helps me is always very courteous. The pricing is reasonable and certainly better than dealership pricing. I recently had to take my car in for repairs and there were multiple complications due to (TDi) emissions issues (post TDi fix) I won't get into here. Dave, the guys there did research, did Google Searches, even contacted Volkswagen, and then gave me evidence to present to them, including printed out images for me to take to the VW Dealership Service bay. There are other details that I am purposefully leaving out, but just let me say that these guys went way, way above and beyond in helping me out in what was an ordeal. If you haven't tried them you are missing out, and further - I would trust my wife bringing her car to them without feeling like a mechanic would take her to the cleaners (however she's got an Infinity LOL). read more

I searched several places and Dennis had some good review and some bad reviews. However the bad review could be explained and the overall reviews were very positive. With that I decided to give Dennis a try. I can say I was genuinely pleased. They patched me up, got me in and out quickly, no surprise charges or unexpected surprises. I was referred to Dennis Sherman Auto by a friend. I checked Yelp and Google reviews before going in. I called and asked for a ballpark estimate for a clutch replacement, to get an idea of where I wanted to go. I talked to a gentleman over the phone who was warm and friendly. Not to mention patient with all my questions. I made an appointment on the spot for later in the week. I needed to drop off early, due to scheduling conflicts the guys had no issues with it at all, in fact they made me feel welcome to do so. I dropped off a day early and found myself chatting away with the guys at the reception desk. Super friendly and down to earth. They promised my car to be returned Friday afternoon, if all went well. I got the call Thursday afternoon that my car was ready. When I got to the shop, they showed me the worn parts, explained the repairs, and made sure to answer all my questions before I left. The bill was reasonable and honest. I felt very good leaving my car there and I believed they were honest and fair. I can't recommend Dennis Sherman Auto more! read more

I am so pleased, Yelp doesn't always get it right but you sure did today. I came in, prepared to make an appointment for another time--I've had my BMW wagon for about a week (2003) and haven't had it looked at, used my "ladies intuition" when it came time to purchase and so far, we're good (which is why I had to find a repair place, just in case). Instead of turning me away, or charging me, or scheduling me for another time, the guy was so kind and polite and accommodating--I assured him that I could return later and understand that he's busy (the shop full of Porsche and BMWs). He looked under the car, then unsatisfied with what he wasn't able to see, he puts it up on the lift! He undid the oil thingy and thoroughly looked around--Most likely I'll need to have a little work done, but he looked at the tires and brakes and told me that it seems in good shape. Seriously, this just isn't done--I am absolutely impressed with this sort of 'small town' personable, and above/beyond care for a *stranger*--I haven't even spent a dime in there and they've treated me like I'm a longtime, loyal customer. In addition, and this is probably what was most stunning--I have NEVER seen such a clean auto repair place: It's obvious that these guys are meticulous and that combined with the great Yelp reviews have made me so much more comfortable about my impulse auto purchase. First Time here and I loved them! I first called to see the pricing on the battery and the told me $248 with taxes.. Compared to the dealership $450-500, that's a good deal. So I called back and said is there anyway I could bring it in to get the battery put today.. He said his staff was on lunch break and if I could be there right at 1 that probably could pull someone aside to do it for you. He said it should take about 45 minutes and I had a doctors appointment at 2 so I was pushing time but needed it done. I arrive was assisted right away and they were nothing but polite and super friendly they got my car right away and was literally done in 45 minutes on the dot. The price was a little bit more because they did not realize that BMW had 3 different battery types for their vehicles depending on the electronics you have and of course we have the most expensive one.. GO FIGURE! However it only went up to $280! I definitely recommend anyone with a foreign car to go here! You will not be disappointed ! read more
