The blackforest cake is also lacking in the kirsch taste. I can barely taste it. Maybe I had a such a great tasting blackforest cake before that many places do not match up to it. I tried my Portuguese egg tart first. The pastry shell is known as a thousand layer pastry with its delucate, very flaky texture and slighty savory flavour that balances the creaminess and sweet of the egg custard. I found the custard texture with its broiled surface to be as smooth and almost as creamy as the custard filled in The He Made Portuguese tart. Almost and very close. The other flaky egg tart was similar in taste and texture in both the pastry and custard but I think Kam Do bakery's version of their Portuguese egg tart is a really good second to He Made. The flaky egg tarts are also available in a cookie crust too. For $2.45 each at this bakery it is excellent value for the money when you can't get a piece in the best. The service at this bakery is very well organized to keep line ups moving. The interior is well lit with organized and labeled shelves of baked goods ready to take home. Self serve from these shelves. They also have a refrigerated section for prepared fruit filled cakes and Swiss rolls to go. Cash and cards. No American Express accepted though. I was in love with the welcoming ambiance. There's a fridge with cakes to go, and the treat window was filled with sweet goodies to stock up on. We purchased cake trifles (Red Velvet & Cardamom), stuffed cookies (Lotus Biscoff & Cardamom Pistachio Chai), and sweet spot cakes (Mango Lassi & Kulfi) to go. Everything was delicious! The cookies weren't overly sweet and had the perfect chewy texture. My favorite was the Cardamom Pistachio Chai. Unfortunately, our visit happened to be during the heavy winds when most of the Lower Mainland had a power outage. I was so happy they were still open, as we had driven all the way from East Van to get there. They were flexible enough to take e-transfer as payment, which was a lifesaver. And lucky for us, we got to meet the man behind the bakery, Jujhar! Even though he was busy dealing with the power outage, he still took the time to say hello, which was really nice.
