I ordered door dash 2 weekends in a row from DelSushi last weekend my food never arrived. this weekend i was lucky enough to get half of my food when i called to discuss how to get the remaining half of my food i was told "we are extremely busy, I'm going to need you to back off" i asked to speak to a manager i was informed he was the acting manager. The tough guy bravado along with his lack of customer service skills really put a terrible taste in my mouth. Theres no excuse for the lack of respect. I highly discourage you from eating at this restaurant. I can deal with the hit or miss food at a late night restaurant what i cant deal with is bad food served with a outrageous attitude. delsushi's always reliable--even during ucsd's finals week when business must be hectic, delsushi always manages to ensure a speedy deliver. and when the sushi is delivered, it's always with a smile, regardless of who's the deliverer (in the past, it was the sweet, middle-aged man with the broken english. this time, it was a charming/dashing young man). remember to tip them! their smiles will get bigger. (: considering how difficult it is to find decent, convenient food late at night, delsushi serves as the perfect solution--it doesn't cause you to feel weighed down by greasy fast food. the concept is great, and it definitely caters to the nocturnal, hungry college students. ^__^v my personal favorite is the volcano roll! but the baked lobster roll is a close second. :3 read more

SUCH A GOOD SURPRISE!!! I have been craving sushi, but am lazy and didn't feel like fighting traffic, so I decided to take a chance on DelSushi. I am SO GLAD I did. Note: this place opens at 7pm, and our food came really quickly when we ordered right @7. So I'd recommend doing that if you want dinner and don't want to wait :) We decided to order a sh*t ton of food, because we didn't know how big the rolls were, or which ones we'd like, so we got: 1)Spicy tuna roll 2) Firecracker roll 3) Baked lobster roll 4) Del Sushi special roll 5) Spicy scallop roll 6) Dragon Roll 7) Edamame Yes, we are hugely fat, and love it :) We had enough food for 3, so next time even if we are STARVING (which we were), we will order 3-4 rolls and edamame. Our favorites were the baked lobster roll, del sushi special roll, and spicy tuna roll. The dragon roll was good as well, just not quite as good as the other 3. The firecracker roll and spicy scallop roll deserve a disclaimer. The scallop is raw. Totally raw. I'm sure lots of people like it, and I likely should have expected it because its sushi, but somehow I was still surprised. While the scallop tasted fresh, it was really gummy and jello-y, which just isn't my favorite. The fiance liked it, but I thought it deserved mention in case other people are weird about textures. Our total was 60$, which isn't bad for sushi that could feed 3 people. I never expect to get tasty sushi for under 20$ per person, so I didn't have too much of an issue w. price. However, there are lots of rolls here that are really inexpensive but still super tasty (spicy tuna), so it certainly is possible to get a full tasty sushi meal for 10-15$ a person here. Drivers are nice, and they found my apt in One Miramar without problem and within 30 minutes. I was impressed and pleased. However, I'll bump them up to 5 for an overall job well done and no delivery charge (though there's tip to consider). 45 minutes from order to delivery time on a monday night (8pm order). Good food, fair prices To give you an idea of the prices - $5 for a good sized california roll with 8 pieces, ~$10 for the specialty rolls with salmon, avacado, shrimp tempura and tuna 2 specialty rolls and 1 california roll order were perfect for me and my girlfriend. If you tend to eat more, 3 specialty or 3 specialty + california will probably be perfect. No charge for delivery, but I added tip when paying online. I much prefer this method of tipping. Wow, I was so disappointed. I'm not even a sushi snob but this is some of the worst sushi I've ever tasted. I used to get sushi from here all the time as a college student 10 years ago and it was excellent. This sushi tasted far worse than even grocery store sushi. The rice was chewy, the fish was poor quality, and the proportions of everything were all off. It was so bad that we didn't even finish it even though we were still hungry. Once you get through the crowd and actually manage to order, it's pretty fast (I suspect that they'll be a lot less busy after their promotion is over). They do deliver to campus dorms and the wait was about 30 minutes so I really like that. The volcano roll was really delicious, I can't stop thinking about it since eating it, in fact I want some right now. It's relatively cheap for sushi especially with free delivery but even with the free roll it was about 20 bucks which was an expensive midnight snack for two. DelSushi... you filled in a LARGE void for late night UCSD stoners and surgery residents working on night shifts at the VA hospital - namely there aren't too many places that deliver in La Jolla. Ordering: Easy, straightforward, I love it Food: Your sushi itself is by no means exceptional but it was above acceptable. The rice was a tad bit on the hard side for your rolls but it didn't taste like it was sitting out for hours. The fresh fish tasted fresh. Delivery: I placed some complex instructions for you to find my hiding spot in the hospital. When you called, I expected a long conversation to direct you but nope, you found my hiding spot. Timing from placing the order to having food in my hands was 37 min - not bad... DelSushi, for your convenience, ease of ordering, competent delivery, you get five stars from me. Sushi has always been one of my anti-drugs because I love love love itt! However, living on campus WITHOUT a car, has left me no choice but be forced to eat crappy dining hall food. Thanks to delsushi though, that has ALL changed~! :D Around 2am when my roomate and I were starving in our prison-like apartment, we remembered that one week during midterms week when everyone had facebook uploads of amazing pictures of sushi at around 2-3am! So we quickly ordered online, and VOILA in less than 20 minutes, we got a call from the sushi man!!! Although the whole purpose of not going out to get food was because there was a kidnapping that very night near our apartment and we were too afraid to step out our doors, we were forced to go out and look for the delivery man because he had no idea where our apartment was located :( Thankfully, we made it back safe with the warm lobster roll and dragon roll in our hands, as we made a mad run back to our rooms. Used to be good place to order some sushi but not any more!!!! Recently, I 've noticed that fish is not fresh any more, rice tastes like gummy,sour substance. On top of that,last time I ordered, guy who was suppose to deliver the food called me that he is next to my building but, for some reason, he can not come up to my apartment and asked me to meet him there. When I told him that I can not walk much cause my foot is broken he started laughing, imagine that!!!! After waiting for 20 minutes called the manager and the guy was so unprofessional. Overall, this is a really great option if you find yourself hungry at 1am! The key is figuring out what to order. I would definitely recommend any of their cold rolls-- Jessica, Alaska, and Aloha are all great. They are really generous with crab (which is real)! On the other hand, their baked rolls are far too rich for me, especially since they top the roll with a lot of this creamy mayo sauce that I can't stand. Also, I wouldn't recommend anything fried--tempura rolls, crunchy rolls are not crisp at all. Ultimately, this is a perfect option for me, because I prefer cold rolls anyways. Honestly, the fact that they are a late night delivery sushi gets 3 stars already. All I need is for someone to hand feed them to me and I'm in heaven. But seriously, this place has surprisingly good sushi. The baked lobster is a MUST. No matter how much sushi I'm ordering, there's always at least one order of the baked lobster roll. I've gotten the Caterpillar and Rainbow roll and both of them have been good as well. I have ordered from here in the past with mixed results but the following email I sent to their company pretty much explains what their service is like. " I've ordered Sushi from your establishment in the past with pretty mediocre results. However, this time the service I received was absolutely horrible. I placed my order in your system at exactly 12:53AM. The order, however, did not arrive until 2:15AM. One hour and Twenty Two minutes to deliver the order is downright unacceptable. This, however, is only the beginning of the horror story. After I had finally sat down to open my Sushi containers I discovered a horrific scene. (See attached picture) The sushi had obviously been dropped or thrown about prior to its delivery at my door and both rolls were thrown completely to one side and there was rice and fish stuck to the roof of the container. And to top it all off, the rolls were warm. These sushi rolls were not supposed to be baked or heated in any way, yet they were both very warm and falling apart. I am extremely unhappy with my service and as both sushi rolls were warm upon arrival I could not even consume my 24 dollar order. This will be the last time I ever order sushi from your company and I demand a full refund of my order as I was not even able to partake in it. " Update: I revived a call from DelSushi shortly after the email was sent. I did receive a full refund for my order and he explained to me that this was not representative of their service. Plus, it's great during finals time because they sell soda and candy :) Although, might not be so great on your waistline ;D The only small thing I wish they could change is to have less wasteful containers... There are times during finals and midterms study sessions when the promise of a food break is more than welcome. However, there are also times when the sudden grumble of your stomach can send you reeling with the "WHY NOW?!" frustration. If you don't want to spend indispensable study time walking to Ralphs or driving to a Mexican joint for late night munchies, DelSushi would be your best bet. Not only are they open until 2am, they will also deliver to anywhere you're studying on campus! I've always been a big fan of baked sushi rolls, but the first few times eating DelSushi's heavily mayo- topped rolls (Baked Lobster Roll, Baked Salmon Roll, Dynamite Roll, Volcano Roll) have taught me that they are more than detrimental to my study sessions. Not only do they give me intense food coma, but the stench of mayo on my breath is also very distracting. Now, I've narrowed my options down to the Rainbow Roll and Dragon Roll. I love sashimi, and although it's easy to tell the fish on the Rainbow Roll isn't the freshest, it has never given me any stomach problems and it does its job to fill me up. Unlike the other baked rolls, the Dragon Roll is not covered in mayo and hence does not feel like a hundred-pound weight in my stomach. Although the prices of these rolls aren't the cheapest, hungry college students cannot really afford to be picky when time, energy, and choices are limited during finals/midterms season! TL;DR: I personally prefer the Rainbow Roll and Dragon Roll, and I would recommend you to stick to ordering non-baked rolls if you want to avoid potential food coma. But I'll give you 4 stars, DelSushi, because you fed me and kept me from getting hAngry while studying. :3 You're probably wondering, what's a UCLA Bruin doing here. "She doesn't even go here! (here meaning UCSD)" to quote Mean Girls. WELL, back in the day, I did summer school at UCSD! So I consider myself a part time UCSD student in spirit.. And I have plenty experiences with DelSushi, hence this review. Sushi quality is average to above average. Same goes for price. My go to orders were the baked salmon, baked lobster, California, and miso soup. (Not all in one order though, otherwise food coma would get in the way of studying.) It wasn't bad and I would look forward to my DelSushi order arriving, but if I had the time/car/motivation to get out of the house, I wouldn't go here for a meal. However, I'm pretty lazy and throughout my summer studying at UCSD, I probably made on minimum, one order per week. It kept me from getting hungry. And that, as any starving college student would understand, is worth a million. Delivery takes a while sometimes.. 25 minutes minimum and up to an hour on bad nights. I forgive them, because I appreciate the delivery service. They obviously know their clientele well, because delivery is during late night when students are up and studying! Getting sushi past midnight is a hard task to accomplish! The fact that DelSushi even delivers straight to your dorm room door is a cherry on top. Love it! The delivery is pretty fast as well. This is great for UCSD students who are craving sushi late at night. The rolls are pretty good as well! I highly recommend the Dragon Roll and Firecracker Roll! Both are absolutely delicious!! It was incredibly frustrating trying to order because they force you to have an account, and of course I don't remember my password that one time I hungrily ordered sushi. So I click forgot password, but didn't get an email for over 30 min (which is especially terrible when you're hungry!) I ended up trying my other emails until I finally found one that didn't already have an account. Now I have 3 accounts with this website, lost 'forgotten password' emails, and more hunger. I was reeeeally excited to try this place, waited all day for them to open so I could place my order, and this is what happened. I ordered around 9:30pm, and the other reviews say orders arrive within about 30 minutes. At 10:30, I finally called them, and the driver said that my phone number was listed wrong and he couldn't get through my gate. He'd happily come back and deliver again though. I don't know why the phone number was wrong, but I felt bad for making him come back again, so I tipped him a little extra. He was super friendly, great service. When I opened up the boxes, I was pleasantly surprised- mostly. The rolls are huge, fresh, and really presentable looking. Not what expected for a delivery. I then discovered that one of my rolls was completely wrong. I'd ordered the Normandie roll which has salmon and avacado on top (drool), and while the box was labeled Normandie, I got something with eel on top. I. Cannot. Stand. Eel. I was sooo sad. By then it was around 11pm and I was just too tired to call and correct it. My dog was incredibly happy though- I'm so not excited to bag her poop this morning. All in all the whole thing was a giant mess. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt and try again just because... I mean who delivers sushi straight to your door?? And the people were friendly, the rolls are great and comparable to a fancy sit-down. The prices are fair, but sushi is sushi so it's not like it's cheap. Maybe it was an off night, maybe its because I had my heart set on sushi after two days of late work hours, but when I arrived at the restaurant I was surprised to see that it was quite literally just a kitchen, with two folding chairs outside for me to wait for my food in. The kitchen staff was outside having a cigarette and quickly came over to offer me a menu, I reviewed the selection and ordered a few rolls, the baked lobster roll, a crunchy california roll, a super del sushi roll and a spicy tuna roll. I hung outside checking my phone and quickly enough the food was ready. I headed down to my car to eat on the hood because there wasn't really a place to eat up by the door where I ordered, and popped open the baked lobster roll to start... it was messy, about average, until I found a long black hair from one of the kitchen members in it. Oh well, we'll set that one aside and move on. The Spicy tuna roll was pretty lifeless, the super delsushi roll was OK... The crunchy california roll however felt like they rolled it in cornmeal, not tempura flakes and was disappointing. I so wanted to like a sushi place open till 2am, but next time I'm in town I'll avoid the temptation to get sushi at 11pm and go to Taco bell instead for higher quality cuisine. read more

Screw finals. Nothing can turn your life around when you realized all you did for 10 weeks was ditch class and party until the last minute when that dusty textbook you paid too much for suddenly catches your eye and you remember you're a student. But hey, at least some things can help ease the pain and DelSushi is one of them. We all know the red bulls and power napping has affected your sleep schedule so its only natural that you're eating at awkward times. DelSushi remedies that by allowing you to have some high-class looking sushi delivered to your door so you can at least continue the party in your mouth. But seriously though, the sushi was just ok. Nothing amazing but hey its 12:30am and I'm too lazy to cook anything so this is miles better than nothing. Being a commuter student without a car (in La Jolla, of all places) kinda sucks sometimes. Okay, it sucks a lot of the time, but that's not my point. In situations like these, I'm thankful that there is a place that exists like Del Sushi. They are my go-to for my late night grub. $15 is a lot for delivery food for one (I promise I go out, despite the UCSD stereotype!) so I often have to order like two rolls that I can't really finish without being super full so a couple pieces get thrown into the fridge to be inedible in the morning. But whatevz, it's the price I have to pay for good food, straight to my house, usually in under 15 minutes (sometimes they're faster than my email confirmation, seriously). As for the sushi, it's not bad. I've obviously had better at sit-down places, but I actually think it's pretty comparable to Ginza Sushi in the La Jolla Village Plaza (which is okay sushi too). The Baked Lobster Roll is a personal favorite, as well as the Volcano Roll, which is the perfect amount of spicy. I'm a little sketched out by how fresh it is considering it's delivery service, so I figure sauce'll cover up any fishiness. :) Now I want sushi.... read more

I found this place last night and it is seriously amazing. the lady in the front is so sweet and kind. the sushi looks amazing and tastes amazing! they go above and beyond with the way they package it. I love how its labeled and the containers are so nice. its a very cute place and they only do to go. but I feel like those kinds of places are always the best. this is definitely going to be a place I continue to come to. read more

I am so frustrated that I didn't leave a photo! First off, the service is ok, the person who took my order over the phone was very abrupt and rushy. However, I understand the nature of business and the need to get the demand and supply, so I won't leave a negative critique there. My issue was the unnecessary amount of SOY SAUCE on my very well prepared RAINBOW ROLL! I hate too much of any sauce because I have GERD and I get bad heart burn and acid reflux. So when I saw the sauce sliding from the sides of the roll I almost cried. I am not from San Diego, but in Los angeles, authentic sushi taste great alone! Not with some over processed crap drenched all over it! After I soaked the soy sauce off with the one napkin I was given it was edible.
