Came here for lunch with a few friends. Appetizers were good. I decided to ask the owner/our waitress for her recommendation based on two rolls I was debating between- the Urbn and the lemon roll. She recommended the Urbn but to be honest, it tasted off (couldn't tell why) and my whole table agreed. Stopped by URBN sushi this afternoon after giving up on the long lines to enter UTC shopping mall. Was originally planning to eat at Viet Nom in the same plaza but with rainy weather and long lines at the door (did everyone in San Diego decide to come out to eat today?) I decided to try URBN Sushi a couple of doors down. When I entered only two tables had people eating there, that should have been a sign for me to leave but I figured I would give it a shot. With the chilly weather I opted for a shrimp udon soup with a side of chicken karaage. The restaurant provides a small cup of edamame on the house which is a nice touch. The soup and Karaage arrived at about the same time. The karaage batter was a bit disappointing. Not crunchy or flavorful, hard to describe but almost like the chicken had been fried in general purpose flour perhaps. The udon soup was a bit better though the two shrimp tempuras that came with it were fairly greasy. I didn't get a chance to try the sushi but I'll try and give the restaurant a second chance and try it the next time. Hope I won't regret it. read more

Our server was friendly. We ordered the salmon teriyaki and the lemon roll. For the salmon teriyaki, there was a bit too much sauce for our taste which made it more salty. The lemon roll was good. I think the food here is generally pretty solid: well-made rolls, good quality fish, nice fry on tempura - but the ambiance is really lackluster. I'm not one to typically judge a restaurant by the decor but every time I'm here, it's awkwardly quiet with bright lights (like when a bar turns on all the big lights at the end of the night to signal that it's time to leave). No music. No nice vibes. For some reason, it's uncomfortable sitting there. I like the food but the discomfort makes me go elsewhere. Maybe they just need to turn off half the lights and invest in Spotify premium. I also had an experience where they allowed a poorly-behaved/non-service dog in who kept barking and trying to jump up to sit on the seats next to us. The staff were very nice about giving us a different table, but there needs to be a firm upfront policy on animals. read more

Complimentary edamame while we looked the menu over. Got the salmon belly, steak tataki, and the Toro nigiri. Loved the salmon belly and the Toro (buttery and just melts in your mouth with a $20 price tag for two pieces). Steak tataki was a little tough but had a great flavor and spice to it. Loved the Summer Lovin' veggie roll with asparagus, avocado, and cucumber. It was a refreshing roll to offset the rest of the proteins and carbs. Forgot what the second roll was but it had shrimp tempura and crab inside and maybe a tuna on top?. Either way, that was also really tasty. All in all a solid weeknight dinner. This place might just be one of our new favorite sushi spots! Craving for some fresh sushi, we stumbled here since we weren't close to our typical spots and was getting pretty hungry that we wanted something nearby. Luckily, we got here pretty early to avoid the lunch rush and to take advantage of the lunch specials they have to offer. The service was top notch! As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the hostess and seated right away. Within seconds we had some complimentary edamame and our drink orders were taken. We ended up trying the sashimi combo which was very delicious! It came with a 3 different samples of sushi bar salad which was definitely a treat. We especially liked the ika sansai salad- we really should have ordered more of that! The star of the meal was of course the sashimi which was very fresh. The freshness of the food made this meal so good- just writing about makes us want to go back for more. Parking doesn't seem to be an issue since there is plenty in the plaza where they are located but it does seem to get busy. We got here pretty early so we didn't have any issues but it did start to get busy as the lunch hour began to start. We can only imagine it being pretty popular in the evenings but they do offer reservations that can be made online or by calling. Honestly pretty mid - I went here for ease of parking, since a lot of places in San Diego can be a challenge for parking. This place not only serves sushi but also bento boxes and other Japanese food. We went primarily for the sushi, so we got the Orange Crush roll and spider roll, as well as the sashimi salad and katsu lunch special with tempura. The orange crush roll has scallop and salmon, with lemon wedge, which is quite unique as I don't really see many rolls with citrus in it. Sadly, there is a reason - or maybe they just didn't do it well - the flavors don't mesh up. The spider roll was fairly good, but you cannot really mess it up with the soft shell and California roll base. Sashimi salad was good - lots of fresh sashimi, and the dressing is delicious too. The sashimi flavor may be masked by the dressing, however. The katsu lunch special was a bit disappointing as there was a lot of rice but not much katsu. You can get a better value ordering a la carte in this case. Service was fairly okay - we got checked up just one time, and that's about it. Fairly bare minimum, and we didn't even get a water refill. read more

Decided to try this place out because the restaurant next door has a long wait, and wow we were pretty impressed! We enjoyed their dinner "bento box" concept to be able to pick an entree and 2 sides to come with it. A huge pro is that they have a huge menu compared to other similar Japanese restaurants. The highlights were the fish and the sushi. The sashimi was great - thick and juicy. The rolls were also really good, especially the negitoro roll! The fried items, however, were not great. The batter is not very crispy and lacked flavor. This was the case for the chicken karaage and the chicken katsu. read more

They also give you complimentary edamame. We ordered a few rolls and the Halibut sashimi. I ordered the spicy baked salmon roll and the philly roll. Definitely recommend the salmon roll if you like baked rolls. They have a pretty large variety of rolls, a lot of options! Around 7p they started to get busy, the restaurant was packed. So we just missed the wave! There's much of an ambiance, but it's definitely nicer than most sushi places. It has a classy black and red color decor. Bathrooms are clean, one stall for male and female. Restaurant is located in a fairly large shopping center, so parking was pretty easy.
