I stopped in this store today looking for RFID wallets. They had a nice selection of genuine leather RFID ones which I was super excited to see. However, the prices were ridiculous. Smallish leather wallets from a brand I had never heard of were between $65 and over $100! I went to TJ Maxx in Latham and got one for $25, also genuine leather and Fossil brand. I will say the customer service here was excellent and the store is conveniently located In Stuyvesant Plaza, but wow, the prices were astonishingly high! read more

She made me feel rushed & acted annoyed when I asked questions about the process. First time customer, sorry would like to know what you'll be doing with my $200 boots. Upon pickup week later, she attempted to show a glimmer of care by showing me the oil they used on my boots that can be purchased over the counter but prefixed it with " you can buy this & do it yourself, or not, I really don't care." Besides this , the work done on the boots were imo , lackluster @ best (no pun intended). First & last time patronizing. Sorry I don't support Karen's& their businesses. read more

I happened to be in Stuyvesant Plaza when I noticed this store. I was in the market for a pair of Alden boots, and wanted to support local businesses, I stopped in to see if they had any. When I walked in I was approached by a blonde woman who offered to help me. She seemed agitated but I chalked it up to just her maybe being busy. I saw the pair I wanted, said it was the color I was looking for (brown) and asked if they had any in my size. Immediately I was asked, "you know how much those cost, right?" After affirming that yes, I was aware of the price, I reiterated if they had the size in my color. This woman basically stomped to the back of the store to grab the box and brought them over to me. However, the color of the boots were black (not what I had asked for). I said they fit great and asked again if they had them in brown. At this point she let out an extremely exacerbated sigh and said that I would have to order them. I basically just walked out at this point. The attitude when I walked in was horrible, the snide remark about the price was extremely off-putting, and you could have saved yourself the horrible experience of having to deal with a customer if you had just told me you didn't have them in brown. I bought them online and will not be going back. To the owner of the store, why is this woman working here? Is she a family friend? Did you lose a bet? Is she blackmailing you? This person belongs tucked in the back, far away from any potential customers. read more

Brought a pair of boots into be resold and have 12 eyelets replaced. Total was about $250 witch I feel is high. The eyelets where $10 per. But when they resoled my shoes they never stitched the sole to the mid sole. Just glued it and that was good enough I guess. Well about 2 weeks after I picked them up the sole started falling off. I have not reached out or contacted them about these issues in all fairness but I don't believe it's worth my time and if they didn't fix it correctly the first time I don't think they would fix them correctly the second time. I think they are used to dress shoes and not work boots that actually work everyday. Instead I'll just buy a new $700 pair of Wesco's and send them in for a factory repair when needed. I also had a pair of $600 dress boots on order that they knocked $50 off because I was getting work done on my boots as well as buying these dress boots. They did tell me that the company that made the boots where about to go on a two week vacation so it would be a few weeks before they showed up. After about a month and a half I ended up just canceling the order and they refunded my money. Not there fault but it was my experience. Was sad to have these issues because I thought I finally found a shop that could fulfill my needs and I could get the 4 pairs of worn out boots I have fixed instead of just throwing them out. read more

Moving to the East Coast has required some adjustments... especially with regards to my shoes. I lost part of the heel on a pair of leather Tory Burch boots did not hold up versus the snow very long, thus I found myself in need of shoe repair. 5 minutes on yelp later, I found Delmar bootery. I arrived on a Tuesday to drop off to drop off the boots to have the heel replaced. Service was prompt, efficient, and polite - the woman behind the counter took not a second longer than was necessary, which I know some may find off-putting, but I appreciated her efficiency. The boots were ready on Saturday AM to be picked up (just as they said), and the rubber replacement is much more suitable for the snow. They also appear to have shined them up a bit. I've already brought back two additional pairs of heels to be replaced since I appreciated the job that they did. The thing that most impressed me is that on one of the pairs had 2 options for a repair - a cheaper, simpler repair and a more thorough one - and the girl behind the counter (before I could ask!) took it back to show the cobbler in the back, then had him come up and discuss the options with me. They really want to make sure the repairs get done correctly, but also exactly as the customer wants. They do a stamp card for heel replacements - buy 6, get the 7th one free! read more

I dropped off heels to be reheeled. My husband picked them up and the insoles were destroyed by their machine and pressed right through. They didn't even mention it to him when he picked up and paid $18.95+ for the heels to be reheeled. I wouldn't trust their work. Often my needs are more of an urgent nature as I must wear custom built orthopedic foot wear as a result of a serious motorcycle accident many years ago. More then once, Delmar Bootery has gone out of their way to accommodate me with nearly instant....while I wait service, that has made it possible for me to literally remain on my feet and continue to be able to ambulate on my own. I took my well-loved Dr. Marten mary janes here to get fixed when one of the straps broke, rendering them too loose to wear. In a week, they'd put new soles/heels on them, and added new straps on both shoes. Only one strap was broken and rather than attempt to fix that and have it likely break again, they installed new straps on both shoes. They also cleaned the shoes up for me a bit and polished them without me even asking. Considering they were $90 shoes, I though the $29.50 fee was pretty fair for the work they did. I am thrilled to be able to wear my shoes again without having the strap flap around! read more

Disappointed by the service I received. I brought in a pair of quality Alden boots to have new heels put on, as the only work to be performed. The shoes were brown leather boots with white contrast stitching. I supplied the correct heels, as provided by mail from Alden. Delmar Bootery did a fine job putting on the heels--they were nailed, trimmed, and tinted appropriately--but they changed the aesthetic of the boots by using a brown polish on the shoes that stained the white contrast stitching. A cobbler should know to use a neutral polish on shoes with contrasting stitching. Further, they were unwilling to make the problem right by providing a refund or a fix of the work. I only wanted heels put on and never asked for brown polish, and certainly did not expect the stitching to be stained. The desk staff was curt and unhelpful. This experience confirmed that good cobblers remain elusive. read more

I brought in a pair of fabric sandals with huge handpainted wedges and they did beautiful work sanding down some wood chips and gluing down the sole where it was peeling up. My shoes look as good as they are ever going to - and all for under $25. Well worth it for my favorite old shoes. I brought in some old black leather pumps and they gave me an honest assessment of how they could repair the damage. The shoes are on the expensive side, but they are good quality and there is an excellent range of sizes (I have very wide feet) and the sales staff were wonderful! They were helpful both when I picked out the shoes & when I picked them up a week later, checking to be sure that the ordered pair fit well. The store is not strictly wheelchair accessible - but Stuyvesant Plaza in all one level and the only barriers would be the curb & the door sill - the doors are a little heavy. read more

Brought my one good pair of leather soled oxfords to these people when the soles wore through after four years. These black Mezlan shoes I had taken care of and paid a pretty penny for, and I really didn't want to buy another pair. I brought them to the bootery to have them resoled. About a week later I picked them up. Not the same quality as the high quality leather soles and wooden heels, but not terrible as the new sole was leather and the heel was good quality black rubber. Only problem was that after wearing them thrice, the stitching pulled out of the first later of sole. I was unhappy. I brought them back. They said they'd fix both shoes for free within 1-2 days. I went back and this time the stitching was clear through both layers of sole. My shoes are back, and they've saved a customer with their good service. Great mom and pop store, and proof that even established cobblers still learn new tricks along the way. They also sell shoes there, but their principal value is that they cobble. Only a couple places around do that now. Good way to save a couple hundred bucks instead of blowing it on new shoes. read more

I stopped in recently to have something repaired. It was a sentimental gift that holds a lot of meaning and I hoped this would be the place to fix the rip. When I showed one of the girls at the counter (heavier set person), she took the item and said that she would ask one of the repair persons if they could fix it. She literally went out to the back for less than 10 seconds. Once she came back, she said, no we can not fix this and tried to give me a bunch of excuses. I tried to explain to her how I think a repair would work and she just brushed me off. I don't know the quality of their work but their customer service is terrible. read more

I notice as I get older I have a zero tolerance statute when it comes to poor customer service. I think it has to do with decades of being treated like my money, my business, my time isn't as valuable as someone else's. Regardless of the service or product, if you fail in this regard, I'm out the door. I'm a little more forgiving of larger companies because they can't control their employees all the time. But if it is a mom and pop establishment, where I actually prefer to give my money, it is especially egregious in my opinion. Case in point Delmar Bootery. I walk in with some boots for repair and behind the counter is a woman (an owner) who is clearly in the middle of helping another customer. Cool. No problem. I don't want to interrupt so I will wait. But as I stood there, about three feet away, I was looking at her because I just knew she would at least look up at some point and acknowledge my existence. And I was going to give her a warm smile that said "no worries, get to me when you can." I got nothing. No greeting. No "someone will be right with you". No eye contact. No smile. Nothing. So I stood. And I waited. And I stood. And I waited. And as I stood quietly and waited I see the other owner in the back chatting about non-work stuff with another person. I'm thinking, ok, this lady will tell the other one there is a customer. Nope. As I stood there I looked on my phone for another shoe place and finally just left. As I have said in many other reviews it is unacceptable not to acknowledge a customer. I can't imagine a person walking up to me, or into my space, and I don't greet them in some fashion. It is immensely rude and horrible business. It's also dangerous to be so lacking of your surroundings. But she wasn't oblivious. She saw me and ignored me completely. I cannot give my business to that company. And now my husband won't. But they won't care because too many people are okay with terrible service. Their business will survive without me but that doesn't mean they are good. Onward and upward. read more

Do not get your Louboutins resoled here. They did a horrible job with mine. The sole they used were so thick and a dull red color (came out looking worse than when I brought it in). I had my louboutins done in NYC before and it looks a hundred times better. When I showed them the comparison- the lady told me it's just a pair of shoe and not to get so upset over it!
