A place like this make Ames seem far more exciting than it is, ha! Right on Main Street surrounded by thrift shops and random bars, you'll find this gem. I was here a few months back for the wine bar part of it. Think: vending machine but wine! I mean, C'mon! If you're doing wine from the machines, you load money on a card when you walk in and use that to dispense wine throughout your visit. When you leave, you close that tab and they will reimburse the $ on the card you didn't spend. Win win! But Friday's are my favorite. They probably had 8 different kinds of Copper Coolers, their version of Moscow Mules and almost everyone in the bar has one on a Friday. Fun atmosphere, random card/board games spread throughout, and full bar! This place is neat, I love showing people it. Ames IS cool!!

Visited this wine bar with my girls for a night out! It's located on Main Street away from the other (college) bars. We all got Moscow Mules because the deal was $5 on Friday's. I chose to get the southern peach mule, which was pretty good, but not the best I've ever had. They had plenty of seating, a few TV's, and lots of games to play with your group to make for a social evening. The two bartenders were nice and made conversation. It wasn't too loud and the music selection was fantastic, made me want to sing some karaoke! I feel like this place is something you'd find in a larger city, so it was a surprise to find here in Ames.

The wine self-serve machines are so fun! It is a great way to taste different wines! In addition to great wines, there are delicious cocktails, mules, and local beers on tap! All of the "snacks" are wonderful as well. We got the salmon plate, the cheese and charcuterie, and cheese and baguette plates and loved them all. Two plates suited us well when we went in as a couple and then three was great for the four of us last night. The workers and owner are energetic, nice, and welcoming. They are always working hard and bustling around to make sure everyone is happy. They also make sure to clean and wear their masks. It is a safe, clean place to enjoy company, eat, drink, and be merry. Love this yummy, cozy, and fun place!

We didn't really know where to go or how everything worked. We didn't know or see a sign saying they sold charcuterie/snacks, until we found out after the fact. We did enjoy some of our wines & definately will come back & try more!

It seemed like the thing do after our meeting and lunch. It took a bit to get out there because it is on the north side of campus and Ames. I had actually never been here because it didn't exist when I was in college. Though there has really been a winery boom in the last couple of years. The winery baristas were able to explain the 10 different wines to us. It would have been amazing if they had all of the white wines because one was sold out. The deal of trying 8 1 oz glasses for 8 dollars is great. We ordered two of their cheese and charcuterie plates (later we found out this was all that they had made). The seating was not ideal and we stayed at the wine bar instead of trying other locations. There was not a tasting card given to you when you got your flight of wines so you had to really pay attention so you knew which ones you wanted to buy. The Iowa grape wines were for the most part great. However, the chardonnay grape that was purchased from California was not good. It either wasn't store correctly in the barrels or not a high quality. Chardonnay is one of the wines I have grown up drinking because my Grandma loves a good chardonnay and I believe I have 4 different bottles of chardonnay at home. Overall not bad place, just I've been to better wineries.

Train wreck-in every way. We flew into Des Moines from AZ and a friend suggested this restaurant…read more We arrived at 8pm for our 8:15pm reservation. There were two other tables in the whole restaurant so needless to say it was quiet. Our server was sweet but obviously not trained on efficient and fast service but was probably encouraged to run like a bunny when things go sideways. We ordered two glasses of wine and an old fashioned. Figured I just got off of a plane so why not get the evening going with some bourbon and have a Plan B with the glass of wine when I am ready. Two glasses of wine were delivered but no old fashioned. Who does this? Anyhow, old fashioned came out next. We ordered a cup of soup and a small salad to start with and then ordered a burger, medium, with fries and the pasta bolognese. The soup and salad came out but there was a long stretch of time before entrees came out. When they finally arrived the burger was very rare inside so my wife let the server know and she apologized and scurried off. I tried to wait but it was getting cold so I slowly nibbled. After 20 minutes, I flagged down our server and asked if the burger was coming out and she said "oh, do you want another one"? It was now 9pm and they were closing but we were not leaving until we enjoyed a medium burger. When the new burger came out, she said the "owner made it himself. We cut it in half to check the temperature it was still pink. How can an owner of a restaurant not know how to make a medium-medium well burger? And why didn't he walk out and deliver it himself and apologize? Not a word! My dish was finished and plate was gone while my wife finally had her burger. We had planned to eat together that was not going to happen tonite. She ate half and we took the rest of it to go. With wine, an old fashioned and the worst dinner experience, we spent $174 with tip. Huge mistake. Here is my tip: train your servers on how to take care of customers. To the cooks, invest in a thermometer if you can't tell when a burger is medium. To the owner, step out and make sure your customers are happy and enjoying your food.
