To me, the concept is great . . . organic, "gourmet" food delivered right to your door?! AWESOME! My husband was telling me that all the celebs are into this type of stuff right now (well, those who can't afford personal chefs), so I do indeed feel haute couture! The menu selection isn't the lengthiest, though it does seem like they have weekly specials (correction, one weekly special) to change the menu a little bit. All the frozen entrees were mostly burritos, so we decided to pass on that. We ended up going with the fresh entrees - beef w/ soba noodles, pork loin, turkey meatballs, cioppino, and a side of Waldorf chicken salad and hummus. Everything was packaged nicely and I LOVED how everything they used were either recyclable or compostable! We prepared our meals in the oven as directed (15-20min) and found that it took a lot longer than that to get it warm enough. We ended up sticking it in there for about 30min to get it warm (not even hot!) . . . maybe other people like to eat their food lukewarm?? I dunno! I just got a new oven (one with lovely red knobs), so it's not like my oven was ghetto or whatnot. The best of the bunch was definitely the cioppino - the savory wine sauce was perfect with some toasted French bread (probably throws off their delicate food portions and balancing, but I wasn't about to waste good sauce)! The pork was a little tough, but it could be due to the fact that we had to put it in for so long to get it warm enough. It came with some cornbread that was just a little odd-tasting. Must be the whole gluten-free biz. The turkey meatballs were okay, and the beef w/ soba had tiny chunks of beef and the soba was not very good at all. You'll be shocked at how small the containers are (you'll think, what?! I paid $13 for that?), but it's surprising that you'll actually find yourself full - again, must be that protein-carb-veggie ratio that they got going on. The chicken salad was yummy (but small - I think it only contained like 6 bites, not even enough for a sandwich and it was $4) and the hummus tasted really fresh. I think overall it's a cool idea but the fact that it's so pricey and the food isn't super (I guess you should never expect gourmet from a microwave dinner) really brings me down. I would consider trying it again if there was a special or a discount, but for now, it's back to organic groceries and roll-up the sleeves cooking for me! read more

I've done the detox program three times. The first time was great. great food, lost weight, felt great. The two other times the quality of the food went way down. I just called to let them know and to give it a try again. I was told that they now charge for substitutions. In addition to the almost $300 a week they charge, they now charge $15 for substiutions (so if you have an allergy to fish for example, you have to pay for no salmon). Lame customer service, poor quality (brown lettuce, uncooked garbanzo beans). While I recommend doing the three week detox, i would do one week to make sure the quality doesn't suck! read more

Going to have to agree with Steve B. on this one. Bought the Groupon for it bc it looked appealing on their website, ordered soups, edamame hummus, veggies and fruit. I do like that their packaging is compostable, yay on that aspect. Cracked open the edamame hummus, dip a carrot in, crunch. Oh, it has no taste and the texture of runny cottage cheese. Hmmm, well maybe some pepper will help. Crunch. Hmmm, maybe not. The coconut milk, turkey and curry soup was ok. Wasn't terrible, nothing to write home about. Was really excited about their beet and Rosemary soup. Heated it up and had a taste. Hmmm, WAY too much Rosemary and very salty. Went back in the fridge. The fruit and the fresh cut veggies were equiv to packages store bought. Still have more soup and more hummus in the fridge to go hmmm to but I can already tell it's going to illicit similar reactions. I am currently at the end of week 2 of this company's three week "detox" service. For three weeks, I get three meals a day and 2 snacks delivered right to my door. I have a serious problem with sugar (I consume far too much of it) and was starting to get concerned that I'd end up diabetic at some point if I didn't start watching it. This "detox diet" is really an elimination diet - designed for people who need to try to eliminate potiental food allergies and sensitivities but don't know how or can't do it on their own. It's a no sugar, corn, soy, dairy or gluten diet. A good friend recommended it and I said "Ummm, well, what on earth would I be eating if I can't have any of those 5 things?" The good news is, GEEZ, everything REAL. Real food - lean meats, fresh veggies, fruits, nuts, seeds, oats...good stuff. I have none of the complaints that Steve B. has but then again, I didn't have the most adventurous palate to start with. I was worried I'd be eating sawdust too (because what else besides sawdust is free of sugar, dairy, corn, soy and gluten?). But it's not like that at all. I have had some really fantastic entrees at dinner and great soups/salads for lunch. I have had a few things I wasn't a huge fan of but they made adjustments to my delivery based on my feedback/requests and it's been fine since then. I don't find them to be at all "holier than thou" about food. I'm certainly not lifestyle-obsessed or uber-femme and I think the food is pretty great. Plus, I don't have to cook a single thing for three weeks. How nice is that? They've given me lots of stuff to think about for when the three weeks is up and I can slowly start reintegrating things into my diet if I choose. If you want to try an elimination diet with them, you don't have to go all in for 3 weeks. They do a 1 week version too, which I am sure I'll do now and then just to reset if I am getting out of control. If you just want to have some healthy, flavorful food delivered to your home (no detox necessary), you can do that too - just have a dinner delivered and see. :) read more

First, let me say that the negative reviews surprise me. I guess it all depends on your context. I've been testing out different diet delivery services to see if I can find one that best suits me. After trying out a variety including one that overnighted a week of food from Florida (so gross), I was pleasantly surprised by Delicious Planet. I'm part way through the second week of their three week detox. Not only am I comparing this with other delivery services, but I'm also comparing it with my ability to do an elimination on my diet (approximately one year ago). For a limited diet, the variety of food is amazing. It's a different grain every morning, salad or salad & soup for lunch, and a well-balanced, filling entree for dinner. The food has been wonderfully fresh, well prepared, and full of flavor. I really enjoyed the carrot ginger velvet soup I had the other day. The dressings on the salads have kick. The dinners have perfectly cooked vegetables alongside well-seasoned proteins. Delivery has been a breeze, but I'm lucky enough to be at the house when they drop off. If you are looking for a thoughtfully prepared detox, or even a well crafted dinner via a delivery service, Delicious Planet is an excellent option. I highly recommend it. read more

I forgot that I had bought a groupon to this place months ago and finally used it last week. I ordered off the regular and the holiday menu. The Pumpkin pie was absolutely delicious but who doesn't love pie. I also had the Pork Adobo, Baked Salmon, Coconut Brown Rice Porridge and the Tuna wrap. I was pretty impressed with the taste and flavor even though I was a little skeptical about the reheating. My GF got me a month's worth of this when we owned our business, so I wouldn't have to cook at night. Her co-worker recommended it, which should have rung a bell with me, as I knew this woman as a trendy, lifestyle-obsessed uber-femme type. I just should have known... I usually don't enjoy being the first negative review of a business that's racked up a bunch of fives but, here, I'm pleased to make an exception. Delicious Planet appears to be a company that's all about the hipper/healthier/holier-than-thou lifestyle cult of the "Down With Anything Not Strictly Necessary" set. We ordered $200+ of this stuff for that one month and ALL of it - right down to the desserts - had that unmistakable, neo-Calvinist, wet-dog 'n' sawdust character that you so frequently find in those militantly vegan restaurants where asking for ketchup is considered a Mortal Sin and sodium is something that's positively pervy. It's the kind of food consumed in mass quantities by people who feel that flavor, moisture, texture, and anything even vaguely resembling fat are signs of a serious Enlightenment Deficit . In working as a chef for almost 30 years, I had to make low-fat, low-carb, low or no-sodium, gluten-free, soy-free, peanut-free, lactose-free, bell pepper-free, dog-hair-free and every other lifestyle-twitch food that currently exists and I did it, happily. I think people should eat what they like...IF - and this is a huge IF - the entire purpose of food (not just the meager, animal-level need to sustain life) doesn't get lost in the process. I made all kinds of food and people ate them and said, "Mmmmmm..." about 90% of the time. It's a challenge, certainly, to figure out how to replace certain fundamental elements of sound cooking in the name of someone's allergy, tastes, or even the trendy, lifestyle-derived attitudes, but you do it because food is a SERVICE industry and you don't get to dictate anything, really. My problem with DP is that it appears to me, as a chef, as if they've completely eliminated questions of flavor, texture, and balance in favor of tossing ingredients in gratuitously, just to get SOMETHING, anything, into the dish. Their supposed freezables freeze and thaw FAR worse that any comparable food I have ever seen. Their slavishly gluten-free spelt flour pastries and tortillas have the approximate texture - and taste - of the cardboard that you find in new shirts, and their pastries, the brownies especially, have a consistency like sawdust. I know people like this food and I know that this review sounds terribly judgmental and I apologise for that tone. But we completely wasted $200 on our "month's" worth of weekly meals (a total quantity of food that wouldn't last a normal household ten days) and I was prevented from asking for our money back because my GF didn't want to risk offending her co-worker. Since I like the person, I didn't want to, either. But I certainly would have asked. I wrote this because there were two reviews touting the "deliciousness" and quality of this food, both obviously written by people who fervently embrace that austere, "down with fun" lifestyle. I didn't want anyone to read their business listing without at least getting the other side of the story. If you are a person who is VERY willing to sacrifice a LOT of the sensual pleasure of eating for the (questionable) health benefits of the relentless omission of almost everything that is even slightly questionable in terms of nutrition, Delicious Planet is probably for you. If you value thoughtful, balanced, judicious use of those questionables, appreciate skill in food preparation over trends, and don't embrace that sort of austerity in your life, I believe you should think twice about Delicious Planet. If they offer samples, taste them. If not, take a long, objective look at the person recommending it to you and ask yourself if their tastes are really anything like yours. I didn't do at least that. I find it hard to call DP's "detox program" a real detox. I don't think it should be advertised as such. It's a fine way to help people who are trying to eliminate common allergens like wheat, soy, processed sugars etc. but a true DETOX by any alternative health care standards, this is not. The "detox" meals are riddled with nightshade vegetables...especially difficult for anyone struggling with inflammation. DP also is careful to make no claim to using organic produce which is fair and explains why there are no produce labels on the fruit. One label snuck through one of my deliveries and confirmed: conventionally grown apple, and that's fine if they're not promising organic ingredients. However, one of the most important things in my opinion when embarking on a real detox is to avoid things like pesticides. Everyone is on a different path. read more

I purchased a gift certificate for a friend of mine who just had a baby, I was trying to make life a little easier for her after the baby was born. She used the gift certificate for a variety of foods. She told me that every dish had something wrong with it. I've been wanting to try a detox program but I really didn't want to do all the research or work to do it on my own. I've got a busy job and outside responsibilities that usually makes my grocery shopping rushed and not as thought out as I would prefer. I was recommended the delicious planet detox program by a friend and gave it a try. I really love having all the meals delivered to my home and ready to go. They have been really, really tasty and not at all what I was expecting. I thought detox meant lots of salads or something. But this has been very yummy. (Not sure if it's because I used groupon which makes me less valuable as a customer) First, the order didn't arrive as scheduled, I understand they are busy with so many groupon orders, but they should have at least gave me a call about the delay. And when I called the next day, they were not attentive and sounded rush. Then it comes to the food. I orderd the Turkey meatball and the Lamb patty, both very dry and tasteless. Honestly, I could have done it better myself. I love this place. Many of my clients use them during a kitchen remodel and they are great. I have given meals as a client gift at closing to many people as well and everyone loves these guys. I also purchased a Groupon deal to try Delicious Planet. I had a ton of issues arranging a delivery during a window that was convenient for both myself and the delivery driver. I live in a secured building, so having the food left on a door step just isn't an option. I was able to work with Lianne who was extremely accommodating and we were finally able to figure out an arrangement that worked for everyone. The food was actually really good and filling - I ordered the salmon cakes and chicken pot pie entrees, and a package of the frozen pork burritos. Everything came nicely packed with heating instructions. The portions are larger than what I had anticipated. I think I would order from here again given that the food is good and the customer service is great! read more

I would actually give DP 3 1/2 starts - better than OK but not something I will order from regularly so "A Fan" status? Not sure. I purchased the Groupon and decided I better check it out before it expired. I was a bit surprised about the regular cost honestly because we have gone to many restaurants and had great meals out for not much more. I ordered the pork loin with polenta and blackberry compote, the Beef Bulgogi, and the Salmon cake (notice I said "cake" and not "cakes" as the photo shows?) First the food was delivered on time as scheduled BUT I had requested that it be left in my own cooler (much better for the environment than the styrofoam one they left) - I even left a tip for the delivery person but he/she didn't find it due to the fact they didn't deliver as requested. That is the second point. The Groupon had a "suggestion" to tip liberally on the original retail value. There was a $9 delivery fee PLUS tip? Must not be paying the delivery people much. On to the food. As stated earlier - doesn't look like much but when I put it on a plate to microwave - definitely looks like a lot. The salmon cake was done in the oven as per the container but it was luke warm after 25min so I finished it off in the microwave. I tried everything to "crisp up" the sweet potato fries but they remained either soggy or burned - still VERY yummy! As was everything else. Honestly, the food doesn't look that appetizing in the little tin delivery plates but it was delicious! The only plate that I would hesitate to order again was the pork loin. Without the blackberry compote, it would have been very bland. The other two meals were extremely flavorful and excellent. So all in all - recommend for someone who wants tasty, healthy, pre-cooked meals delivered and cost factor does not matter. read more

My roommate and I both got the Groupon and placed orders on different weeks. We both thought we'd want to use the service again before we actually tried it, but after eating this food for two weeks, we are just going to be glad when it's all gone and we don't have to feel guilty about not wanting to eat it! First of all, there is a very small vegetarian selection, and most of what we ordered was vegetarian so we had to duplicate some stuff. There were two things we liked. My roommate liked her fish and chips and I liked the black bean "burger" (though I felt very deceived because I wanted something to sink my teeth into and really it's just a mushy patty with no bun that I could have done better at home). On the really bad side: the pan seared eggplant with tomato sauce. I heated it up at work in the microwave and it was completely raw inside. Very unpleasant to chew through. The tomato sauce and quinoa both had no taste. And the "yogurt sauce" was vanilla yogurt. Thank goodness I tasted it before putting it on! The beet and lentil soup was the worst thing I ordered though. It was basically murky water. No body whatsoever. Come on, lentils are cheap! Why would they water it down?! And when it came in my roommate's order it was a bright pink whereas mine was grey/brown. I could go on dissecting what was wrong with each item (gritty boring edamame hummus, small portions for a huge price...) but I think it will just suffice to say that we would have enjoyed a frozen organic meal from Trader Joe's much more, and for a lot less money. read more

Ah, I guess I am agreeing with many other reviewers here. Bought the Groupon deal a while back for this place and was excited to try it. The food arrived when it was scheduled to arrive, but one of my wraps was missing. My housemate also ordered food from them and had a missing food item in her order, too. Way too many email correspondences later and over too long of a stretch (close to 7-10 days I think?) we each received our missing food item, and a 4-pack of muffins for our troubles, which I thought was a really nice touch on DP's part and I want to give them the benefit of the doubt since they admitted to being unprepared for the mass of Groupon customers. But the food was just "ok" and nothing great. Per other people's reviews, lacking in flavor, really, and many of the meals seemed more like snacks as I was still hungry after eating them! Also, it took 3 tries (and more email correspondence) for the cooler and ice packs to be picked back up by the drivers. For an excellent food delivery service I recommend "Chef by Request": super (but not all organic). read more
