Shoutout to Shingle Springs, CA. Delicia Restaurant. This small family owned and operated Mexican restaurant captured my heart after every minute passed while dining and after every bite. It was my first time here. The welcoming vibe, clean and simply quaint interior, very cool family staff, comforting yummy food and pricing made it a 5 star for me. I ordered the carne asada plate $18 that came with beans and rice. Mmm. Delicious. The meat had flavor, nicely cooked. Easy to cut with the typical restaurant steak knife( which you and I know isn't really a steak knife) but I'm saying this to make a point of the quality and tenderness of the carne asada. Refried beans and rice were on point, great flavor and consistency. But those beans were so good, I'm still thinking about them. Plus I had no after effects (chuckle) which means they were prepared well. The entree came with tortillas and condiments of chopped onion, cilantro, cream, gauc, and limes which not alot of restaurants provide. The entree was served on a warm plate. Nice touch pro touch. The chips are complimentary and self serve. The chip warmer is near the register. They provide the red salsa to your table. The chips tasted fresh and had a crispness. It held up after a bite and didn't fall apart. The salsa was phenomenal OMG yum, beautiful color, rich flavor. Mmm. Hubs ordered a tamale. $7.50. It was a good size, bigger than what I thought it would be. Check the photo I posted. That too was served on a warmed plate. The red sauce was OMG delicious. They give a generous serving of sauce. But you'll eat it all with the biggum tamale. Now to address the elephant in the room. (1) Since it's family operated and small staffed, that comes with potential wait times. Not loooong waits in service but not instantaneous either. In a fast paced world, even initially I thought 5 minutes was an eternity between seeing our server before I actually realized it was only less than 5 minutes. I survived and didn't collapse due to dehydration of not having my water glass refilled. Momentarily not having fresh napkins doesn't fall under survival skills. Stopped in to try this restaurant for the first time and ordered food to go. The wait was about 20 minutes, which is understandable since it's a small family-owned business. The chips and salsa were delicious, and the rice and beans were very tasty. The enchilada sauce was outstanding and really stood out. We will definitely be back to try other menu items. There is a wait for food due to the small staff size, but this is clearly mentioned on both the menu and the website. If you're in a hurry, this may not be the best choice, but if you have a little patience, the food is well worth it. This place is a hidden gem. I cannot wait to go back. I had the quesabirria tacos. They do not hold back on the meat. It was SO good. My gf also got a carne asada taco and the meat was so lean and tasty. The gentleman (maybe one of the owners) was a sweetheart and very attentive. The first visit was a 5 star experience. The staff were friendly and attentive, and tacos were fantastic. However. The second visit was completely off. I ordered chicken enchiladas, which had barely any chicken, but the sauce was amazing. IMO, it waa very over priced for us to be hungry after the meal. The table service was terrible and the waitress had a bad attitude. Upon paying, the cook took care of our bill and was very friendly. Overall, it's a 'hit or miss' kind of place. This food was almost inedible. I had a chili rellano with rice a beans. The beans were watery and unseasoned, the rice was slightly hard; the rellano had about 1/2 oz of cheese, was flat, and had a spice, but not tasty sauce. My friend and I tried this place last night. I still can't believe the experience we had. It was honestly the worst!!. We ordered food. It came and we started to eat. Not more than a few mins later our server walks up and says we have to hurry up and finish as they close at 8 pm and we need to leave right at 8! It's was 7:57pm. I was in disbelief. I asked for clarity and she reiterated we needed to be out in 3 mins and couldn't stay. My friend asked for the manager and the owner chef came out and said the same thing. Who does this? We were not told anything about this policy when we sat down. It wasn't mentioned when we ordered. It was just thrown in our face right after we were served. We literally just started to eat. In all my years, NO restaurant had ever done this. This owner just expected us to take the food and leave as they had to clean up. In hindsight, we should have just left the food and walked out. We got our boxes, put the food in them, paid the bill, and walked out. Take your hard earned money and go somewhere else where they will appreciate your business. We were in the area and thought we'd give this place a try for lunch. We were off to a good start with a friendly hello and seated at a nice table. Then it started going downhill for us. First they were out of several beers on the menu so we just got water. Next, they bring you salsa and let you know that you can help yourself to the chips by the front of the restaurant which we thought was a little odd. We went through the salsa rather quickly and had to ask for a refill several times, once getting up to look for our server. We had the same experience getting water refills. Next, we got our food. My husband ordered a steak burrito and I got 2 chicken tacos and 1 carnitas taco with cheese. I don't remember how much they charged for cheese but I saw only a couple of sprinkles and couldn't taste any cheese on the tacos, otherwise they were pretty good. The burrito on the other hand was very bland and wasn't great quality of meat, several chewy pieces. (Sorry I forgot to take pictures) We are glad we tried it but we won't t back. Service can be a bit spotty as the owner still doesn't have a waitress helping him and I think he gets overloaded. Ambiance is very very basic. Not a date night place. It is family friendly. The enchiladas, and birria is to die for. Get the quesabirria when you first come here as a starter, and if you love really hot salsa, as for the very spicy salsa. Both are INSANELY good. Had to get in early and we weren't disappointed. The place lived up to everything we had been reading about it, and it was a delight. We had a chance to meet the owner, (well, you know... ), and we got to talk about his mom's great cooking. We both had the cheese enchiladas, and they were superb. We had an early Friday dinner at Delicia. There were 3 tables seated and a handful of people waiting to go. I had the protein salad with chicken and I will be back for it. The salad tasted and looked fresh, the chicken was flavorful and cooked perfect, and there was a generous amount of sliced avocado on top. It was nice to have a healthy flavorful salad at a good Mexican restaurant. My husband had the Al pastor burrito and also was happy. The chips are self serve and hot and the salsa was pretty spicy but very good. My husband doesn't do cilantro and there was a fresh hot sauce option for him which is a huge bonus. Great new Mexican restaurant in Shingle Springs where Los Amigos used to be. The owner, who seated us and who was also our server is a lovely man. He talked to us about how he started out with a food truck and someone gave him an opportunity for this brick and mortar. And how his whole family, especially his mother, is such an asset to his restaurant. We sure hope he does well. But, let's get to my review. Chips and Salsa; you get your own chips but they were light and crisp, reminded me of Chevys chips. And the salsa was not too hot and had the right amount of kick. We then ordered a side of guacamole, which was some of the best I've had. So many times Guacamole is so lemony you can barely taste the avocado. For my main, I had the chicken fajitas and the whole dish was delicious, from the rice to the creamy refried beans, beautifully grilled red and green bell peppers and onions. And very flavorful, marinated chicken breast. So, so good. Hubby had Chorizo enchiladas, a shrimp taco and a bean and cheese burrito. He said the Chorizo was well done and some of the best he has had. His shrimp taco had huge shrimp and was so good he had wished he ordered 2. And his bean and cheese burrito was simple but perfect. So to recap, we loved everything we ordered and hope the word gets out that Delicia has some of the best Mexican food out there. And the portions are large enough to take some home with you, like we had to do because we thought we would be able to finish everything. One last important tidbit of info: the prices are very reasonable . Our bill consisted of Iced Tea, a Coors Light, side of guacamole, Chicken fajitas, 2 Chorizo enchiladas, side of beans and rice, a Shrimp Taco and a Bean and Cheese Burrito. Total $61.27. It was nice of them to warn us about the red salsa my wife got in her burrito being spicy but we enjoy spicy food and it was indeed spicy but nothing we couldn't handle!! The lack of servers to meet the demands of the customers in a timely manner may hinder its growth. It is a brand new operation and certainly worthy of trying.
