What a cozy little market! This is the type of place where you'll find necessities and name-brand…read moreitems, but also local products, gourmet foods, produce (including rutabagas, for some reason), beer and liquor and wine, lots of snacks and candy, a frozen food section, and even a hot food area. Doud's is a small market, but it has lots of stuff. As far as I know, this is one of the only markets on Mackinac Island. There actually is another Doud's down Main Street toward the ferry area, but it's a smaller grab-and-go convenience store, mostly with snacks and coffee. My hotel was right across the street, so I bopped into Doud's a couple of times during my stay, to grab a bottle of wine (they have a decent selection of wine), some candy for my kids, and some fruit because I needed to eat something fresh. The store is tidy and everything is arranged nicely. They also have self-checkout kiosks, so you can get in and out quickly.

Today, the store is known simply as Doud's Market and is run by Andrew Doud, the 4th generation owner. On Main Street, Doud's is the only grocery store in Mackinac Island's downtown, it's a beloved hub for locals and tourists. Today, Doud's is a modern grocery store, with a mom-and-pop feel, offering a wide range of food & household essentials. Shoppers will find fresh produce, fresh-cut meats, prepared items like whitefish dip, chicken pot pie, subs, homemade pizza, & salads. The cherry chicken salad & cherry chicken salad wrap are customer favorites. The store also features a variety of baked goods, along with a comprehensive selection of wine, beer, and spirits.

I don't eat burgers, but my family has said it's one of the best burgers they've ever eaten. Husband said the pastrami Reuben was life changing. I got a simple veggie wrap with cheddar cheese and wow! It was so flavorful. The sides are great, too. Ambrosia is something I rarely see anymore, but they have it - yum! The sweet pepper slaw is divine. Potato salad and Mac and cheese are solid. Soups are flavorful. Prices and portions are great. This is a don't miss. It never disappoints.

We ordered a taco salad and turkey bacon wrap. I ordered potato salad as well. It also took a long while to get our food. They didn't seem to be hurrying in the kitchen, just making sandwiches at a rather slow and steady pace. Our food was pretty good, standard deli fare, nothing super special, but we did feel that the ingredients were fresh. We enjoyed being able to eat our food out on the deck. By the time we finished, the place was packed with people waiting to order or receive their food. Other than the slow service, we were satisfied with our lunch experience.

The building is small and unassuming. Bring your appetites because portions are very generous. Today I had the corned beef hash with red skin potatoes, onion and 2 eggs served with camp toast. All the flavors were amazing, the corn beef was tender, lean and the combination of flavors were very good, probably one of the best corn beef hash dishes I have ever had. My wife had the Iron skillet scramble with 2 eggs, sausage, american fries, cheese and it also came with camp toast and fresh raspberry preserves. And of course what breakfast is complete without cinnamon rolls. :) We highly recommend the cinamini's served in a small iron skillet with bourbon vanilla cream cheese glaze. Our server Colette was very friendly, and attentive and took good care of us. If your looking for a breakfast destination, check out Brutus Camp Deli. There might be a wait time, but it's definitely worth it!
