Greek panini sandwich with very salty homemade potato chips
Tony S.

This place is just okay. I went for a panini sandwich at lunch. Service is counter service, which was friendly and efficient. I ordered the Greek chicken panini. The panini bread itself was the highlight: it was pressed nicely and was perfectly crispy. There was a good portion of chicken deli meat on the sandwich, but there was really nothing about the sandwich that stood out and it didn't have any real Greek-style taste at all. I didn't really taste any Greek seasoning or any feta cheese. There was an olive tapenade that was overly salty. The sun dried tomato sauce was also not that good. So the sandwich overall was just okay. They serve homemade potato chips on the side. I love salty chips, but I'd have to say these chips were probably the saltiest I've ever had, past the point of being good salty and crossing into salt bomb. I may go back sometime and try their core Italian food, but at this point, they are pretty low on my list of Asheville go-to restaurants.

Del Vecchios was a recommended place in Asheville so we tried it out for a late lunch after running a few errands in town. You order at the counter and we were greeted with a smile as we came in. We ordered a meat calzone and their lasagna. We enjoyed the fresh hot food that was served with a smile from the waitress. Portions were ample and we will enjoy the leftovers later. The restaurant was clean and quiet with plenty of seating. Typical pizzeria atmosphere.

I love, love Del Vecchios food! I just personally never had dined in until today. I'm really hesitant about counter service because you don't know how it's going to go but I must say theirs is the best Ive ever had! They had a little bench that we sat at and looked over the menu. The man running the register was super nice and helpful! They bring you your food and they even came around and checked on us! We had a large garden salad for a starter. Oh my goodness that combo of fresh vegetables is amazing! I have the Baked Ziti Parm and my boyfriend got the steak and cheese with fries! Soooo good and so much food I probably have dinner for 2 days! And I'm not mad about that! Prices are great too! The restaurant has an Italian restaurant vibe with tables and booths. I like that the to go boxes were on the back wall too! AND they have a REAL Chicago style pizza so we will have to go back to try it!

Surprisingly crispy pizza

Impromptu lunch spot next to wine store was a HUGE HIT!! The cheese sticks were crispy outside and string cheesy on the inside served with a perfect marinara! The crust on this pizza was GREAT -CRISPY and not super thin or super thick. It held the perfect amount of sauce and toppings. The cheese was the perfect blend and flavorful. Fresh, not canned mushrooms ! Sounds crazy but even the Coke was calibrated to perfection. Definitely will go back. Unexpected strip mall spot!!!

Sheesh!

They have legitimate vegan options y'all (hopefully they consider adding a vegan-meat option at some point), but verified that the regular crust is vegan-friendly and dairy free, including the crust made for the calzones and bolis! Customize your pizza/zone/boli and you are able to add "special notes" online to notate you would like it to be prepared vegan-friendly. Highly recommend as an easy takeout option on Merrimon

Menu.

This food gives me hope. It's the best food ever. The prosciutto and pea fettuccine restored my marriages romance. It's magical.

Lots better options cheaper. Paid like $80 for 2 small pizzas. Ridiculously expensive for what it was. Not even that good.

Ask the Community - Del Vecchios

Hi! When will your South Asheville location be open? Thanks.

It's open!

I would like to order for pickup online, ie your website, without having to have a third party company to deliver?

You can either call the restaurant directly to place a pickup order (828)258-7222 or you can choose the pickup option on any of the third party online ordering websites we have partnered with.

What is the gluten free pasta made of?

It is made by Barilla. All ingredients are easily searchable, but I think for your purposes the answer is a combo of corn and rice.

I see that you have vegan cheese but is there a menu that lists what can be made vegan? Or is it just pizza that can be vegan?

Hi Madison! Thank you for asking. There are quite a few vegan options besides just pizza here. The fresh tomato and basil pasta is already a vegan dish. The spaghetti and marinara sauce is good by itself or can have a bit of vegan cheese as a…

We came here on a Saturday for dinner and were able to get seated at the bar right away. It is first come first serve at the bar, and there's over 12 seats at the bar. Reservations were completely booked up so no tables were available until 9:30 pm. My one complaint would be they told us no tables were available, but they left at least 4 tables completely empty for over 30 min and wouldn't let other people sit at them. They said it was for reservations who had ended up canceling because of the bad rainy weather that night. People were turned away at the door when tables were available. We ended up loving sitting at the bar because we got to chat with the bartenders and see the chefs make the pizzas. The crust for the pizza is literally perfect. The chewiest pizza I've ever had. I usually leave the pizza crust but I ate all of mine this time. My partner and I shared a focaccia with whipped ricotta for an appetizer. And we got two pizzas, one red sauce and one white sauce. The meatball pizza was absolutely delicious with the red chili flakes that are provided. And the artichoke pizza balanced well with the fresh arugula and pesto sauce. I would highly recommend coming here and trying to get a reservation. If you can't you can wait to sit at the bar or order to-go.

Unfortunately the only couch available did not have a heater or fire for warmth. The food and atmosphere was great, but the service was a bit slow! They were quite busy, and we had to wait for silverware as everything was still in the dishwasher. Our server was apologetic and kind about it. They did offer a free dessert for the birthday celebration, one of three options! We selected the cannolis, which were not a classic cannoli and not quite for me (cinnamon and chocolate). The Italian sausage and Gorgonzola pizza was delicious and the salad was fresh and tasty!

My husband and I had an absolutely fantastic experience here. came on a Tuesday night with a…read morereservation, and we were seated immediately. Our server was very kind and had great recommendations for the menu. we started with the half focaccia bread service, and it was fluffy and fragrant. Absolutely would recommend. For drinks, our server started us off with a sample of their sumac soda, a non alcoholic cocktail. It was mildly sweet and tangy, with some woody tones to it. It was so good we ordered another non-alcoholic drink, the fig cocktail, and that was great too. for the food, we got the lion's mane mushrooms, the gnocchi, and the broccoli. The gnocchi is my favorite. Probably the best gnocchi I've had in my life. The mushrooms were a close second, they were so tender and flavorful. The broccoli was a bit spicy and it was a good complement to the other dishes. Once again, our server's recs were spot on. For dessert we got the tiramisu. it was a solid tiramisu. Our server gave us a sample of the soft serve ice cream, and that was actually better than the tiramisu. Highly recommend their seasonal soft serve for a unique and delicious flavor. The service is very not rushed, and the restaurant has a beautiful and comfortable interior. It was the best place we went to during our trip to Asheville.

Would probably go for something else next time, though Lion's Mane (7/10): super, super juicy and tender. However, it did feel like it was missing something in terms of flavor Gnocchi (10/10): likely the best gnocchi I've ever had. Texture was spot on. Sauce was perfect. Greens paired well. Cauliflower (6/10): tasted decent. I wouldn't say I'm too impressed. Basically a take on Chinese cauliflower + chili crisp. I've had enough mala dry pots that this is pedestrian (for me at least) Tiramisu (7/10): solid tiramisu, but I don't think it's a must order. You can find comparable options elsewhere I absolutely love the "free sample" culture they have here. Our waiter had us sample some delicious sumac soda, and it helped us decide to order a fig mocktail (which was also great). We also got a free sample of the earl grey + limoncello soft serve swirl, and that was STUNNING. I'm so glad we sampled that, as we wouldn't have ordered it otherwise. Fantastic service from our waiter Ace. He gave us great recs and detailed rundowns of everything.

All right, All right, All right! Sound like a guy you know?…read more:) I'll start with our server and circle back to everything else in a minute. Our server was Tony. Cutest, sweetest, most accommodating server we have had in decades! Tony got everything perfect. He's one of those people with the right personality for this job. Visible. Invisible. At all the right moments. Checked on you at exactly the right moments. Like there was a tiny cam hidden in the salt & pepper. lol. Oh ... did I forget to mention he looks like Matthew McConaughey about 20 years ago? :) Just adorable. Circling back to the whole experience - we were greeted by Emma at the podium, who magically got us into one of their 3 booths. She was super sweet as well and had us seated before our 8:00 pm reservation. The place was packed. She worked her magic. AND THE FOOD!! OMG. THE FOOD!!! We started with their focaccia bread service (yum) and a calamari starter, with shishito peppers (wow). Cocktails were delish. I had their hibiscus mojito. Perfect! Hubby had a beer :) Choosing our main dish was a hard decision. Everything looked fantastic. My husband had the Bucatini (fabulous) and I had a traditional spaghetti and meatballs (not on the menu) but no problem for Tony! Wagyu beef blend in the meatballs!! OMG. To die for. Everything was so good! We were absolutely stuffed, but went for desert anyway. lol. We let Tony choose for us. He brought us a creamy caramel gelato, and an amazing tiramisu. Perfect choices. If they only had a place to nap when you're finished!! lol. We were only in town for two days, but if we lived closer, we would eat here twice a week!! This place is a gem. Absolutely spot on in atmosphere, service and food selection. Prices are average for a good restaurant in 2026. Not over the top :) If you ever have a chance to eat here, run, don't walk. It's literally across the street from the entrance of The Biltmore Estate. Beautiful area. Thank you again to Tony. We will always remember your kindness. You made our night much more than alright!

Delicious italian food in a fairly…read morecasual atmosphere, thought you certainly wouldn't feel out of place if you dressed up for the occasion. Gemelli is in the heart of Biltmore Village, and I could see parking being an issue if you don't get lucky. They do have their own private lot, but it's not very big. We did get lucky and got a spot right up front. They do have reservations available, though we were able to get a table without one right away. I'm sure the need for them is very seasonal, we visited just before "leaf season" really cranks up. We started with arancini, and this was an excellent version. Crispy outside, tender rice and cheesy inside. Bathed in their vodka sauce, which maybe seems to be their signature sauce as most of our order came with it. That's a good thing, it's an excellent sauce. We also got bread service... which I would not do again. Bread being complimentary is still mostly a common thing at Italian restaurants, so for me to pay for bread, it better be something amazing. In this case, that was money I could have held onto. It was good, but, I have had better complimentary bread at other places. Minor lesson learned. We ordered a small plate of meatballs (2 meatballs well sauced and about the size of a racquetball) to have a bit more protein with our pasta dinners. They were excellent as was the red sauce they came bathed in. Very deep tomato flavor, great spices, would love a meatball sub made out of these. My lasagna ranked in the top 3 I have ever had, and I consider myself nearly Garfield-esque in my love for lasagna. The pesto on top, and the burrata-like cheese used in the layering set it apart along with again, delicious sauce... including a lake of vodka sauce that it was served in. I was pretty full, and the half I saved was delicious the next day as most lasagna is. I have one solitary complaint other than the bread. It's nice and all that one of the employees took my food to box it for me. But I was kinda mad when I opened it the next day to find they didn't box up any of the vodka sauce left on the plate. That would have made for even better leftovers, and I have no idea why they wouldn't think to spoon that in there. What a waste. Regardless, would definitely come back again for another meal to try other things. It will be hard not to reorder the lasagna!!
