The sister restaurant to Winston-Salem's acclaimed Mission Pizza Napoletana, Mission Pizza Asheville (aka Mission Pizza Romana) is decidedly not your typical neighborhood slice shop. The Roman squares are made of a thick dough that looks like focaccia but is both lighter and crispier. They come in single 5" by 7" rectangles (spuntino, $8-$10), 5" by 13" pies (mezzo, $15-$19), or 9" x 13" party size portions (tutto, $30-$38). While you can build your own custom pizza, the default options include a Calabrian with pepper jam, a funghi & charred tomato, a sfincione with breadcrumb topping, a patate with potato cream, and a rotating special. A few dips, an arugula salad, cauliflower cacio pepe, and meatballs are also available. Wanting a few slices to commemorate Pi Day, my wife and I shared a Calabrian, a funghi & charred tomato, and a daily special. Ordering was easy, and Terra Nova's "green industrial" vibe (check out that moss wall) made for interesting ambiance. Our pizza was not cheap, but it was very satisfying, and Mission uses high-quality ingredients. The Calabrian offered a good combination of sweet and spicy while the funghi & charred tomato delivered creamy (ricotta) and smoky. The crust was done perfectly: crisp without being overly charred. There are many places in Asheville where you can grab a pizza and a beer, but none can offer you the same experience that Mission does. Unless you're a New York-style pizza purist, you owe it to yourself to give Mission a try. read more

I love the concept of being able to order your pizza at the same time as ordering your beer. The fact that you don't have to do separate ordering is great. I like the style of pizza and they have some interesting specialty pizzas. I just didn't love how the pizza we had only had a very small amount of cheese. It was also super messy, the pizza had breadcrumbs on top, which were good, but they went everywhere all over the table. We also tried the meatballs, which were good but nothing special. I am all about being eco friendly but the taste of the wooden fork ruined the taste of the meatball (not a fan of the popsicle stick type flavor when eating). read more

This is a takeout window that is based out of a beer garden kind of place, which is one of these weird New Age-y business models that I struggle to rate. Their site really wanted me to leave a tip, but why am I doing that when by definition they are not offering any kind of table service? My dinner cost plenty. The beer garden was not crowded and it wasn't clear to me that they had anything that I'd want. However, I can't fault the quality of my pizza. The pizza was a mix of onion, garlic, and herbs; the name talked about crying but these things do not really provoke tears when cooked, though I wonder if the people who made it did tear up. The gustatory result was mouthwatering, and in addition to the topping mix, the crust was a high-quality flour that both provided a springy, airy interior but also a charred surface. Look at those bubbles! An arugula salad was straightforward, but delivered sharp flavor. Notably, the ordering system also asked if I wanted the vegan version of my pizza, which I opted not to do, but maybe would consider just to see what happens if I end up back here again. Mission Pizza is now doing squares! This is a takeaway window at Terranova Brewing. I had the Bianca which had ricotta cream, lots of red onions, & a pesto. It was delicious on a pillowy focaccia type crust and was a hearty size. My husband had the Patate which had yummy chunks of smoked provolone with the thinly sliced potato. You just order the squares at the bar with your beer, and they text you when it is ready for pickup at the window. We stopped by Mission Pizza while we were in the area--it was good, but not a must-do. The line was short and moved quickly, which was nice. We tried the sausage & giardiniera slice and the pizzaiolo's choice. The sausage one was so delicious--definitely our favorite. The pizzaiolo's choice had good flavor but was too spicy for us. There's limited indoor seating but they do have an outdoor area with shaded tables which is where we enjoyed our food. It was a bit pricey for just two slices, but everything was tasty overall. Worth checking out if you're nearby and craving pizza. read more

this pizza place was such a fun little experience. we wanted to grab a quick dinner and i came across mission pizza. we did the order for pickup option so i can't speak on their dine in environment but i know it is inside a brewery! when ordering on the website, it is a bit confusing at first bc the pizza combinations are super unique and definitely have italian named. however, once i matched up what the pizza looked like to the description i was super excited. they offer some fun normal flavors, a special of the day and a pizzaiolo's choice! (pizza makers choice) this is super fun for me bc it's like a surprise! they are not slices, but roman squares! we ended up ordering the sfincione, calabrian, their special (it's getting hot in herre) and a pizza makers choice! my favorite was honestly the pizza makers choice. it was a white based pizza with arugula, i think a balsamic glaze, whipped ricotta and i think it was guanciale on top. SO good. the sfincione was a more typical tomato based pizza was parmesan and breadcrumbs (great for kids), calabrian was like a meaty, tomato, little bit spicy. and the special was PRETTY spicy but also really good.! my husband picked up the food and he was in and out really quickly on a friday evening. so while i can't speak on the service, it seemed pretty quick and easy! read more

Up till now - the best Pizza I had ever tried was way back in my younger days - on a working trip to Cannes, France. That perfect "Pizza Memory" was the kind of experience that lingers in the memory. The Smoke Show Pizza was pretty much perfect. The crispy, thin crust almost out shown the tangy, tomato, basil and smoked evoo topping. All locally sourced and deliciously fresh. This is pizza made by a perfectionist. And accompanied by a tall IPA - made on the premises - it made for one highly memorable "Pizza Night." My compliments to the Chefs. Service was friendly and appropriately casual. The ambience was an excellent match for food you eat with your hands while talking about life and drinking a beer. I am often on the road between Raleigh and Asheville. I always look forward to stopping at Mission Pizza in Winston-Salem as my halfway point. I will continue to! Now there is a Mission Pizza in downtown Asheville as well, inside of the Terra Nova brewery. This place has really stepped up the Neopolitan style pizza game here in Asheville, it's the best in my opinion. The scenery is very comfortable with open roll up windows to let the mountain air breeze through while you dine and drink. Ordering process and food running process is seamless so there is nothing fussy about that part of it. Great for a date night, family outing, or just a solo visit. Highly recommend stopping in to get some of their delicious pizza and other menu items!! Excellent!! So glad they are here!! Plenty of dedicated parking as well! read more
