I'm not sure who came up with it, but it's a lot of fun for adults too. The crazy hoops are iconic here and it's so fun watching the kiddos give it a go. I also love that there's a playground for bigger kids, younger kids, and one for all. They also have a fantastic bike loop with exercise machines. The big field in the middle of the loop is used for sports practices and it's well kept as well! Did I mention tennis and pickleball? Well they have both here and there are always players on weekends but weekdays it's all good! Have you been?

Plumas Park is a cute little park that packs a ton of activities. The gymnasium is home to…read morecommunity volleyball and the outside park holds a lot of soccer games and practices. I like to break it down into two sections: the upper and lower ends of the park which is "separated" by a small slope on the field. The upper end has a playground and during school hours, you can see kids from the Our Lady of the Snows School play during recess or doing PE activities. During the summer, you'll frequently see families and soccer games on both sides of the fields. Whenever the park is empty, you can usually find dogs and their owners enjoying the afternoon or evening. From what I learned, this park is supposed to be an on-leash park, but most of the time you'll see friendly dogs running around off leash playing catch. From our house the park is only minutes away so we take our dog here many times on the lower end to play fetch. The locals kept us aware that occasionally park officials would stop by, to which they would put their dogs back on their leashes and the park officials won't bother them. The park officials aren't too stern on the "on leash" rules but will approach you if you don't have them on when they arrive. In a nutshell this park is lovely place to meet well behaved dogs and friendly owners. You can also enjoy community volleyball games or take your kids to the playground.

There's plenty of shade thanks to the beautiful, massive trees, and wide open grassy areas that make it easy to spread out and relax. Notable: - Smallish park, best for the younger crowd (I'd say 8 and under). - Life jackets are available to borrow (huge plus for families near the river). - Bathroom on-site (clean-ish depending on time of day). - There's a sand horseshoe pit with horseshoes provided--random but awesome. - Ample parking - Popular for jogging groups, photoshoots, and 4-legged parents (some leashed, some not). Worth mentioning: The playground surfacing is recycled rubber tire material. While it's soft and safer for falls, I'm torn on it--lots of new research around potential chemical exposure and PFAS concerns. Feels like one of those "it seemed like a good idea in the early 2000s" things. Would love to see Reno explore alternatives in the future.

The park is located next to one of the many Sparks Fire Stations. So if you or your child gets injured, the response time should be very fast. Side note: This park is fantastic. The issue I have with this park is the location. The park is located next to McCarran Blvd. There is a right turn which passes by the park. Cars tend to be driving pretty fast in this area. All it takes is one car to lose control and plow through the chain link fence. Hopefully that never happens but you never know. At least the fire fighters are close by, just in case.
