It was like stepping back in time when things were not all chrome and sparkle but things were tasty and delicious and people were friendly. This little Mexican bakery has quick become one of my favorite places in town with a wide variey of baked goods at reasonable prices. Cookies, cakes and breads some of which I have no idea what they are but tasty. You wait on yourself by taking a cafeteria tray and a pair of tongs, going from repurposed cabinet to cabinet selecting your treats..One of my favorites is the flaky turnover with queso or guaybano(sp) filling. Everything is not as sweet as you would imagine, with just the right amount of sweetness to soothe a craving. The couple that run this little narrow bakery are extremely polite and helpful and speak fluent English in order to answer all my abundant questions. The building is hard to find mixed in with others and a pawnshop and it is hard to back out onto Gallatin Road without some patience. But it is worth every second just to try this gem of a find in Madison.

And....politeness, helpfulness, and efficiency of counter/wait staff is exemplary. The store is definitely a throw-back to another time (sadly missing in many of today's quick in - quick out - "grab and go" establishments.) The food is good and reasonably priced. (They even offered to make a smaller portion for my partner and charged half price (even though we offered to pay full amount.. Now, that's courtesy!) My companion's Cherry Ice Cream Soda looked amazing....(but she remarked that the flavor was not quite what she has been accustomed to. (Then, again....our tastes and syrup formulas might have changed over time.) Nonetheless it was delightful. Sandwiches were pretty standard and tasty. A notable "plus" was my Tuesday Special...The "Jezebel". It was a nicely grilled chicken breast on toast with special "Temptation of Jezebel Sauce...a delicious combination of tropical pineapples, sweet apples, cracked black pepper and a little horseradish for a hint of "bite." (Captain Rodney's is a Tennessee-based company located in Bell Buckle....nice!) plus grilled mushrooms, onion and cream cheese. Yes, I'd order again. My Chocolate shake had me doing a bit of a double take. Creamy and smooth to start; too thick to suck through a straw, BIG up front chocolate flavor...but, something seemed not quite what I had anticipated. The creaminess was a bit different from the old stand mixer style - although it was made in that kind of machine. And, the ice cream was almost like eating soft serve. BUT...this was a delightful, delectable, treat and worth a repeat. (For the record I was told they use Mayfair ice cream and milkshake mix. Good stuff.) Bottom line....definitely worth a stop on your way through town, or as a destination for a special treat. (FYI: handicap entrance is off to the side of the building and I didn't see it until we were leaving. Front entrance has two steep steps to navigate.)

Drive through goes pretty fast and customer service is superb. They're very friendly and the coffee hot or iced, are sooooo flavorful! Now I understand what the buzz is all about. I have been driving by this location for months with anticipation and finally was able to swing…read morethrough and try the famed Dutch Bros Coffee! And while I have only had one beverage...three times now...I will say that I am impressed and a fan of the brand! This location, being brand new, has all the bells and whistles that Dutch Bros Coffee are known for including the walk up window, dual drive thru lanes and of course all the coffee goodness you can handle. And on top of that, when the line gets backed up at any level, a convoy of folks come running out of the back door to greet and take orders mid-line. It make the line move so much quicker...and on two of my trips by I was able to get my drink before I even got to the window! Making it to the window isn't so bad though, as the service is absolutely stellar! They are friendly, helpful and seem genuinely happy to be slinging the good stuff. Overall, I am still a Scooter's loyalist...but since there is not one on my end of town, Dutch Bros has me converted! That iced white chocolate is the absolute business!
