4.5 Definitely a trip down "memory lane." From the decor to the ambiance to the selection of old time fountain drinks, Thomas Drugs fits those categories to a "T". And....politeness, helpfulness, and efficiency of counter/wait staff is exemplary. The store is definitely a throw-back to another time (sadly missing in many of today's quick in - quick out - "grab and go" establishments.) The food is good and reasonably priced. (They even offered to make a smaller portion for my partner and charged half price (even though we offered to pay full amount.. Now, that's courtesy!) My companion's Cherry Ice Cream Soda looked amazing....(but she remarked that the flavor was not quite what she has been accustomed to. (Then, again....our tastes and syrup formulas might have changed over time.) Nonetheless it was delightful. Sandwiches were pretty standard and tasty. A notable "plus" was my Tuesday Special...The "Jezebel". It was a nicely grilled chicken breast on toast with special "Temptation of Jezebel Sauce...a delicious combination of tropical pineapples, sweet apples, cracked black pepper and a little horseradish for a hint of "bite." (Captain Rodney's is a Tennessee-based company located in Bell Buckle....nice!) plus grilled mushrooms, onion and cream cheese. Yes, I'd order again. My Chocolate shake had me doing a bit of a double take. Creamy and smooth to start; too thick to suck through a straw, BIG up front chocolate flavor...but, something seemed not quite what I had anticipated. The creaminess was a bit different from the old stand mixer style - although it was made in that kind of machine. And, the ice cream was almost like eating soft serve. BUT...this was a delightful, delectable, treat and worth a repeat. (For the record I was told they use Mayfair ice cream and milkshake mix. Good stuff.) Bottom line....definitely worth a stop on your way through town, or as a destination for a special treat. (FYI: handicap entrance is off to the side of the building and I didn't see it until we were leaving. Front entrance has two steep steps to navigate.) read more

Take me back to the times of poodle skirts and milkshake, double straw sharing dates! Like a step back in time with ice cream, soda fountain (with old fashioned soda options) and a operational pharmacy--what more could you want!? We each tried a salty lemonade- they are delicious! And because we were from out of town we were offered some delicious pickles (they probably do that for everyone!) even though their lunch menu ended hours before. I want to go back! There are so many things to try. And who wouldn't want to be a regular at a place like this? read more

Family owned, old time soda fountain. Great people, great atmosphere! They have almost anything you need. They also carry local crafts.

Good food, good service, reasonable priced. Parking is a bit tricky. Phosphate was good. I would stop again.

Looking for a peace of the Heartland? Search no further. Thomas Drugs is a pharmacy/convenient store/restaurant establishment that looks like it's straight out of Mayberry, USA! The soda fountain/short order grill has a variety of food and drink of options. The folks there are friendly. And the Shakes are terrific. The prices are moderately high for the area, but in general, they are quite reasonable. I definitely plan on coming back for some food in the future. read more

Thomas Drugs - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Cross Plains, Tennessee

Great lunch spot Great service and friendly hometown blessing. Love this place. Time for a shake.

Drove from Nashville today for a girls trip with my mom, sister and niece and had a great time! My mom summed it up when she said, "it feels like we're in Mayberry." I highly recommend the milkshakes and the DAB salad. We'll definitely be back! read more

What a fun place! We had burgers, salted lemonade and the grandsons bought T shirts! A small town gem! The desserts are huge so share. Wonderful staff, feel bad they have to wear masks in this heat! We hope to go back soon! read more

Americana at its finest!! Just passing through, we impulsively made the detour after seeing the signs. The owner and staff were terrific. Apparently - her husband had bought the place over 40 years ago and then she decided to open up the old fountain 25 years ago. What a gem!!! She studies the old fashioned recipes and serves them. I had a real phosphorous - it was delicious. Kids had fun requesting different kinds of sodas. The food menu is limited, but good - hard to be compliant with today's regulations if you want to preserve the historical integrity. Definitely worth the stop. We will stop again. read more

This little slice of 50s America is well off the beaten path. If soda fountains, oak panelled cupboards, cosy little diner booths and the kitsch of post war USA turns you on, then you need to visit this drugstore. The steps, the doors, the floor, stamped ceiling, and walls speak of different times. The old counter, stools and coke dispenser evoke memories of things which can generally only be related to youngsters by misty eyed old men who owned a De Soto, Dodge Phoenix, or a Rocket 88. Go here for a true old fashioned experience and take your kids! The milk shakes are astronomical, the cakes are like-wow, the ice creams and banana splits are groovy, and the counter lunch food is everything that Richie Cunningham would have raved about. I love malted milkshakes and Thomas' Drug Store is unequalled in their manufacture. And..the staff members are friendly, not given to the have-a-nice-day platitudes of today's fast food eateries and always happy to chat when they have time to take a break. Go here and step back into a better time. It's truly a wonderful place. read more

Best milkshake I have ever had! There is no parking lot, so you must park on the street. Cross Plains is a small town though, so parking should not be an issue. The store is really cute and looks like it hasn't changed since 1930. I'm not sure how old the place actually is though. Prices are low and the milkshakes are thick and delicious. I did not have any food. read more

Ehh. Uhh. Only reason it's not Meh is because it was pretty darn cheap. I was drawn to it by the I-65 Highway sign for a "1930s Soda Shop." That kind of thing will get your attention. No parking. We parked on a side street. All right. We went in, and all was cheap, but I was not thrilled that they contradicted the menu about refills. Whatever. The Egg Cream I got was nice, especially as it was the first time I had it, and we enjoyed the Salty Lemonade Soda, but I didn't feel that the customer service was really up to par. There was a lot of "stuff" for sale, but none of it was really attractive: mostly decorative and for old ladies, as far as I can tell. The food was cheap, so I imagine that its decent, but it won't be enough to bring me back. read more

Always friendly and professional. Great customer service, they proactively go the extra mile. Plus they have great milkshakes!

We finally got to visit here today. It's been on our radar for six months. It's very traditional with wonderful service and simple menu. The burgers were great, the beef hot dog was good. The salty lemonade is worth a try. The first reviewer called it pricey, but 9 of us ate there for $50. That's pretty good. It's an easy 30 minute drive from Nashville. Go! The grill is open from 10-2 on weekdays only (I think). The soda fountain has a wider time range. read more

The sandwich is righteous. The drinks are refreshing. The people are welcoming. What more could you ask for? Wonderful experience, even better food. Just what I needed. read more

An old-fashioned soda fountain plus drugstore. One of the better handspun chocolate malts I've ever had. And very clean restroom.

Thomas Drugs has the best hamburgers around in a great retro soda shop atmosphere. When you step into Thomas Drugs you feel like you are stepping back in time. My husband and I love stopping in for lunch just to enjoy their atmosphere and burgers. The only downfall to Thomas Drugs is that they are only open from 10-2 My husband and I usually eat for $10-$15 depending on if we get dessert. read more

Took my daughters there to show them a little what dining was like before any of us were born!! The homemade pimento cheese was amazing & the milkshakes were delish! They make their cokes the old fashioned way (put in syrup, then add the carbonated water & stir together) and that was THE BEST Diet Coke I have ever had!!! The prices weren't bad at all ($22 for the sandwich, 2 milkshakes, hot dog, PB&J & Diet Coke) but the food was worth so much more & the staff was fun & friendly. This is worth the 20 minute drive from Springfield alone! read more

This place was a wonderful stop and worth getting off the thruway for. The ladies working there, including the owner, were so kind and friendly. The place was filled with locals and was clean and kept pretty original. The back of the building is still a working pharmacy. We had a turkey pita which was fresh and delicious. Their entire menu is on their site. They had a great selection of gift items also. read more
