Degrees Bistro does not have its act together. The food is inconsistent and often not available. We stayed at the Ritz Georgetown for several days and ate here everyday. For some reason, blueberry muffins are in short supply. They make them in their kitchen so it's not a vendor supply problem. The tiny chocolate croissants are heavy and greasy. The carrot bran muffin is tasteless. The first day we ate here, the pastries were better. On one of the days, one of our servers said the manager determined they did not need more pastries on a daily basis because the hotel is only at 80% occupancy. Since almost all of the tables after us asked for pastries and turned them down when they saw the selection, it's a management problem. The avocado toast is good, but needs more guacamole. They are happy to give a side dish of it when you ask. The staff is very pleasant and attentive. It's not the situation of too many cooks in the kitchen, but one too many managers. read more

Last Saturday we decided to stop by the Ritz Carrolton in Georgetown, Washington, DC for a cocktail; so, we went to the Hotel Livingroom / dining lounge. We graciously greeted by Edward as we entered and we were seated at the place of our choice. Edward took the time to explain the new layout and menu in precise detail. Later that afternoon, Edward introduced us to the Restaurant Chef, Victoria Montenegro and she made a few Great suggestions on some menu items that would pair well with our bottle of wine. Needless to say, the food she helped us order was fantastic and unique! One of the orders was a smoked appetizer that was beautifully presented in a wooded box. Although we have had many good experiences at this Hotel in the past; we would highly recommend the Hotel and Degrees Bistro to guests, travelers, and locals alike! 4 stars for a surprisingly good hotel bar/restaurant. My wife and I stopped by Degrees Bistro, located in the Ritz Carlton Georgetown on 31st Street, to grab a bite while waiting on our Christmas tree to be wrapped up from the hotel's speciality market. We took a seat at the bar and found a very nice bar with several TVs to watch the various college football games. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday or Sunday during the fall. After grabbing one of the venue's specialty holiday drinks (spiked cocoa), we put in an order for some food. We got the tuna poke (solid), artichoke flat bread (solid), and burger (good, but not a good one to reheat). While the prices were high as expected for a Ritz Carlton, nothing was too crazy and the food was generally pretty good. Overall, Degrees Bistro was a good hotel restaurant. While it doesn't quite stack up to other full-fledged restaurants in the Georgetown area, it is definitely a great place to check out if you are looking for a snack or drink, and it is definitely an acceptable option if you are staying at the Ritz read more

PROS: Degrees bistro lounge is an upscale bar and restaurant with several TV screens. It is located behind the tastefully decorated lobby of Ritz-Carlton Georgetown. They had a smaller-than-expected dinner menu (for an upscale hotel such as the Ritz): five choices for the main dish (entree). Their cocktail Peruvian Hemingway was good (lemony, refreshing), and it was $17 (pricey, and tiny portion), though the context is that this is an upscale hotel bar. Not too bad, though pricey since the portion is so small. They offer warm breads with olive oil and butter. The breads are soft and sweet, not the crunchy type. Still very good. Their scallops (main dish) and the sausage / broccoli /pasta in pesto sauce were both great. The scallops were huge, succulent and fresh. Service was attentive, efficient, and friendly. They came to clean up our table frequently and to pour water. CONS: The crisp shitake mushroom (as a side) was really wonderful: tasteful, unique, simple but innovative. It is served on a skillet. However, when we reached the lower layers of mushrooms it became very salty, beyond tolerable. I accidentally ate a piece that was very salty, as if the chef coated it with salt and nothing else. Probably an uneven spread of salt during preparation. The dish is good otherwise. We complained about it to the waiter, who offered to remake the dish. We were rather full by then so we declined and thanked him. Later, he took that dish off our bill which is a very nice gesture on the part of the restaurant. Throughout the evening, their lighting went dimmer and then suddenly bright again several times, as if on some cycle or timer. Family enjoyed the octopus and the cauliflower steak. But my request for a $32 medium rare burger came back ultra-well done - dry as a desert and hard as a rock. Is it really that hard to cook a burger right nowadays? Especially for such crazy prices? AND the replacement burger took so long to come out that my family was done eating and I had lost my appetite. At least I have a burger in a box for lunch tomorrow. Quiet place in Georgetown to meet up if you want a drink and/or appetizer. However, it's going to cost you some $$$. Degrees is inside the Ritz-Carlton, so I suppose it shouldn't shock that this place is going to be on the pricey side. When I first walked in, staff was friendly, asked if I had any questions, and seemed very accommodating. The decor is very elegant and relaxing. The lobby is a terrific place to just relax, chill, and feel comfortable. Degrees has several tables, a nice bar area, and several televisions. Staff in here were very friendly as well. All together, we ordered one glass of wine and shared a tuna poke nacho appetizer. The waiter completely forgot about the wine, and it did take quite awhile for the tuna nachos to come out. The waiter apologized about the long wait. The tuna poke nachos were displayed very nicely, definitely photogenic. However, it was quite small for the price of $18. Tasty, but not worth the price. The glass of wine was also $18. So with a tip and tax, wine and tuna nachos came out to over $40. What I liked most is the ambiance and quiet vibe. read more

Seven of us stopped here on a Saturday night after 10pm for a cocktail. I had the Carolizer and it was amazing. It contained fresh carrot juice and micro greens. The place was pretty dead and there were children there. That seems to be the norm since they changed this from and cool bar to a bar/restaurant. Service was excellent. They brought a most impressive birthday dessert for my friend. It had a mini cheesecake, chocolates, and other treats on it. Tucked away in the Ritz Carlton in Georgetown, we came here for drinks on a Sunday afternoon. I could definitely see myself stopping by here again before or after dinner in Georgetown. They have a full bar and their menu features specialty cocktails, craft beers, and tapas. (I didn't get to try any, but I would like to next time I'm there!) The atmosphere is intimate and lounge-y, the music is at a volume where you can keep a conversation with someone else, the Blue Basil cocktail is a must-try, and the service was great, attentive, throughout our whole experience there. read more

My friends took me here when I visited DC. Tucked away on a small street in Georgetown, this lounge is a cool spot to hang out, have a drink, and wind down after a long day of school/work. From what I heard, there are often events happening here in the evening. The night I came here, there was live jazz. After getting a few drinks in the bar in the back, we chilled in the lounge and enjoyed the music. This bar/lounge is quite upscale. I definitely felt underdressed when I showed up in my sweater and jeans. The drinks are expensive, but I guess you are paying for the experience. I think I paid around $18 including tip for a cocktail. The bartender was far from attentive. I definitely expected better service considering it being at the Ritz. If I lived around here, I would probably come here occasionally for drinks and special events. read more

It's the second time we went there where the restaurant was booked for a function. We decided to sit and have a quick bite in the area that was a open lobby but also served as a lounge where people could order drinks and food. It was kind of strange there was a lot of activities people dressed for a black tie event, lady with a twin baby tram that kept pacing around in circles and hotel guests. So they just added some new items to the menu a week ago, we ordered the duck banh mi, ramen sliders, onion soup dumplings and truffle fries. The banh mi sandwich was served on a mini baguette it was ok we liked the pickled onions/cucumbers garnish. The ramen sliders nice crispy top layer but the bottom layer was soggy and it was not possible to pick it up with hands the burger was too thick and on the dry side. The onion soup dumplings to our surprise was deep fried as it was usually steamed to order however it was tasty with the cheese and the soup slowly oozed out. The soup was hot but people who've had soup dumpling should know. Those who never had soup dumpling please dont put the whole dumpling in your mouth! The truffle fries were cooked perfectly garnished with herbs and shaved parmesan. I enjoyed the truffle flavor even though it's just the flavored oil. Nice try with new items. read more

Forget about the tea service at the Ritz. The bar here is one of my favorite spots in Georgetown! I worked a wedding (I am a makeup artist) here and the bride was taking forever to get ready. Thank goodness it was an evening affair. I explored the lobby and came across Degrees. Most of the people at the bar skewed "rich and fabulous" types but there was no major attitude. I chatted up the bartender and he recommended the house drink, the Zentini. It is basically a Cosmo, but instead of vodka they use saki. It has a nice tang, and with one sip it was sayonara wedding stress! In the winter, my fave drink here is hot chocolate with baileys and creme de mint. So, so good. I am a chocolate and mint fiend from December to February for some reason. Love it. read more

This review is strictly for the food. I had breakfast here twice and dinner once while staying at the hotel. My first morning I had the Georgetown breakfast which included eggs, bacon, country potatoes, coffee or tea, juice, toast, and a fruit plate, all for $29. Everything tasted good except for the eggs which had a strange aftertaste to them. My second breakfast was oatmeal and the granola and fruit topped yogurt. My oatmeal tasted ok. The yogurt was sour and the granola didn't taste terribly fresh so I ended up just eating the strawberries and blueberries. The dinner menu consisted entirely of small plates. I had the ramen sliders, chili chicken wings, and duck bahn mi. The wings and bahn mi were pretty tasty but I had an issue with the sliders. The beef tasted good however I found them very difficult to eat as the ramen noodle bun falls apart after the first bite. I ended up eating them with a fork and was left wishing I had just ordered the regular sliders. The service here was pretty good. I will probably not return, however, since there are lots of great dining choices in the neighborhood. read more

I had massive high expectation on this because it is in Ritz. When we entered the hotel, we did not know where the bar was at. Then immediately the front desk asked us if we were looking for Degree bar. We said Yes. He gave us the direction to get there. I thought that that is 5 stars service. Now when I got in the bar, I was very disappointed a little bit. I thought that I came to wrong place. It was very regular bar with TV hooked up on the top. There were so many older people who try to look young. They acted like college kids. I didn't enjoy ambiance. However the cocktail drinks were good. Besides the good thing about this place is the service is very quick compared to other nice bar. Most places usually take 30 minutes to make a one single drink. it is nice to grab a nice drink from this place but I do not know if I need to go back this place because there are better bars than this place. read more

**Taste of Georgetown 2011** BBQ Pulled Pork Sliders, Cole Slaw: VERY good. Nice and tender with a good, sorta sweet BBQ sauce. Actually better than some popular BBQ joints (that shall remain nameless *cough* Red, Hot and Blue). I'm normally not a huge fan of cole slaw, but...I can live with it atop of a nice, saucy slider. French Apple Tart, Caramel Sauce: Good, but pretty dry. I'll chalk that up to the lack of vanilla ice cream. Wouldn't stop me from ordering it again. I love 'apple' anything. I liked the caramel and crumbles. This is another one of those places that I've always peeked in and never bothere sitting down. I would dine in for the sliders, alone. read more

The food here was alright, but it was really the service that was amazing. After we landed in Washington DC I had to go to the hospital for an emergency infusion. So my Dad and I had to go to the hospital while my Aunt got our stuff settled here at the hotel. When my Dad and I came to the hotel the morning after spending the night at the hospital we got a basket of goodies from Chef Kristi here with a get well card and lots of snacks and treats. Super nice. We ate here twice for breakfast and once for dinner and ever time we got the same really awesome waiter who was great in service. I wish I could remember his name, now I feel bad. As for the food, my first breakfast here was meh. I got a breakfast burrito that had dry black beans in it and barely any cheese. The sauce on the plate was really fresh and spicy though. The second breakfast I had here was a lot better. I split a eggs benedict with my Aunt that was everything you expect in a good eggs benedict. Dinner here was unlike any other hotel dinner I've had on my entire month of vacation. Very innovative and creative dishes, I was surprised. For dinner here I had the french onion soup dumplings and ramen sliders. The dumplings were a great idea made into a smart and delicious appetizer. Normally when I order french onion soup I don't eat it all because most of the time it's too salty or rich. With these bite sized soup dumplings all those problems with french onion soup go away. It's a dumpling filled with salty delicious french onion soup and then topped with melted cheese. You eat it just like you would dim sum. Best part of the whole meal. The ramen sliders were kinda a disappointment after those amazing dumplings. The ramen buns were greasy, the beef patty's were gristly and the sauce was too sweet. A good idea, that didn't really work out. Out of all the hotels I've stayed in and eaten in this one is near the top. read more

So incompetent it seems purposeful. I just took my mom here for brunch/breakfast on her birthday. Everyone involved with this restaurant is incompetent. I don't understand what is going on here. The food is easily worse than a reasonable diner ought to be...and for the price it's almost like a prank. I joked with my wife that we should have gone to le pain quotidien instead (it surely would have been better). I think they might have contempt for their guests...at least that would explain it. Service was poor and non-present. I'm not exactly high-maintenance but I shouldn't have to ask for water (for instance). Just poor all around. I have nothing but good things to say about Degrees. I stumbled upon a blog that recommended a deal for dinner for two. Long story short the offer and the link were outdated. Very outdated. Apparently Degrees changed over to a Bistro some time ago and they did not even offer the food that was listed as options on this deal/site. However, they not only honored the offer but created a meal specifically for us based on our choices for the outdated menu. It was one of the best customer service experiences I have ever had. Everything was perfect. The food, the service, the atmosphere. They can do no wrong in my eyes. PS: The website error has been fixed guys..lol..sorry. I went here for a mother's day meal this past weekend. The service was great, but the food left me wanting more. I wish it wasn't in such a secluded area of Georgetown, but that may be the impression they want. Initially, it was hard to find (probably not a mistake), but we found it eventually. It's through the Ritz-Carlton hotel. When we arrived it was completely empty, but picked up as the evening went on. I ordered brussel sprouts - meh, and the tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich - another meh situation. Nothing really impressed me here. Maybe I'll come back for the bar and happy hour menu, but I'm not sure. The one thing that highlighted my visit here was seeing Susan Rice there with her family for dinner. I love this place. It's always the perfect spot to grab a post-movie, pre-dinner, pre-clubbing, post-date, post-shopping, pre-streaking, post-coital, pre-affair, post-dessert drink. The possibilities are endless. It's hidden away from the throngs of G-town, so it's never too crowded. Decor is super sheik. And I know it's an odd reason to love a place, but the glassware is superb. The glasses are this heavy colored crystal-type concoction with this great curved pattern going down the sides. One of my favorite places to have a few drinks. The service is great. The people-watching is top-notch. Conversation isn't difficult because the tunes are usually at a decent volume. The drinks are great, never weak. What I love most about the Ritz's bar is that it brings a little bit of New York to DC. It's lounge-y feel, relaxed atmosphere, and crowd make you feel fierce. The decor is chic, and there's a bar as well as several little spots and tables to entertain small groups. If you find the bar area over populated, take your drink and saunter out by the fireplace and big cozy chairs. Friendly staff at the door that showed us to the lounge. Place is nice and cozy for an intimate night out whether with a group or your significant other. Place is chill not pretentious vibe. It was crowded but not bare. I tried their cherry blossom drink but it was too sweet for me. I didn't want to try their other specialty drinks but maybe the next time I'm back. Sleek, swank hotel bar with industiral chic 1940s feel. As hotel bars go, I really like this one; POV may have a better view, but service here is leagues ahead and there is a lot less attitidue. Exposed brick walls and a decor rich in red and orange tones that give it a warm feeling. A bit pricey, but you'd expect that from a Ritz-Carlton product. The lobby lounge off to the side has a piano and fireplace, great for a winter get away. Cockails tend towards the fruity (particularly citrus) but the classic French 75 goes back nicely. Makes for a great pre/post dinner or movie spot. But the best thing about Degrees? It's located in the old Georgetown incinerator; this is where they used to burn Georetown's trash. We got the small plates: The fish tacos were dry and lacked flavor. The duck carnitas nachos- similar, meat was dry and the nachos just weren't tasty. Enough said. Their Sriracha honey chicken wings were pretty decent (their only saving grace), which was on the house, because we were celebrating a birthday and the birthday boy doesn't like dessert. My girlfriend and I met at Degrees recently on a blustery night to toast the Holidays in style. In the Ritz Carlton, Georgetown. Puttin' on the Ritz. That's right, I was in heaven even while realizing that most likely I will never be able to afford to stay the night here, or eat more than an appetizer or two, or drink a single cocktail. Degrees is divine for the grand fireplace tended to by the butler, complimentary roasted s'mores brought hot to your table should you be lucky enough to be in the lobby evenings between 6:30 & 7. Friendly service in an elegant, yet intimate setting. Sure, the cheapest wine by the glass is $13 and the butternut squash soup is too sweet for my taste and our gallant server w/ the indiscernible Euro accent was MIA for quite some time that recent evening. I still love it here. Classy while at the same time relaxed-kids and dogs fit right in on those comfy sofas or milling about the lobby. The most beautiful, fresh flowers and the roaring fire. A perfect spot for celebrating or just hanging out and reading w/a pot of tea, a glass of wine, or some light, lemony, crisp calamari. Good for people-watching, and tucked away in the old industrial section of Georgetown close to the canal. Degrees feels very exclusive, and I plan on visiting as much as I can as long as I'm in DC. This bar is the best bar in Georgetown and one of the best in all of DC. The bar and lounge area are set up very trendy and has an inviting feel to it. It seems to have been a hot spot for the after work crowd as it was a mostly upscale crowd. They make a lot of specialty drinks here and the bartenders are very sharp. The rum selection was top notch as there were many premium rums and liquors to choose from. It's definitely expensive here, but you get what you pay for in terms of atmosphere, drinks selections and service. This is will definitely be a go to place for me whenever I'm in DC. read more

The turkey club was delicious, the staff was accommodating to allergies and they were very friendly to my 3&5 year old. The $25 burger took a looooooooong time to arrive, about 35 minutes, and that was after I let the waiter know that my parking meter is about to expire. The burger had some bitterness to it - not sure if it was the overburned bun, the onion or something else. I ordered it medium well, but it arrived overcooked and dry. I would have sent it back, but after such a long wait I was so hungry that I had to eat it. No pun intended. Fries were good though, at least they didn't f$&@ them up. Had do ask for salt and pepper. Last Saturday my brother in law was married at the Ritz Carlton so boo and I made the rush hour trip down 95 Friday to get settled in and enjoy the surroundings. Once we arrived we naturally headed down to the lounge to meet up with some of the fam, typically my favorite part of pre-wedding events however things didn't go quite as planned. I got everyone's drink orders and went up to the bar. At this point there were only maybe 10-13 people in the lounge so getting a drink was easy. I was disappointed by the beer selection and they were out of Prosecco which disappointed boo but somehow some way we managed to make it work. In the time it took to mingle around and drink our drink the bar crowd had doubled. So when I went back to get the next round I see the bartender is still riding solo and is running back and forth and looking increasingly worried. The new crowd looked like a mix of the two businessmen from Trading Places and oil tycoons and were not used to having to wait for drinks. They start getting loud and saying ignorant stuff, meanwhile here I am a mild mannered bro wondering how I'm gonna get a drink when I'm standing next to T. Boone Pickens who I assumed tips in gold bullion. At one point it was around 15 to 20 minutes of waiting when the bartender finally came over. Those would be the last drinks we got that night.....there at least. It's not even the bartender's fault, when you go to the Ritz you don't expect anything to be understaffed and this place certainly was. Gotta give mad props to the bartender who held it together but on the whole I could have done without the whole ordeal. read more
