This was my breakfast stop to start my road trip. It's a little off the beaten path. The place is old and outdated looking. My server was friendly. I ordered a spicy Bloody Mary and the country fried steak breakfast. Service seemed a bit slow. The Bloody Mary was super average. I know my chicken fried steak would be frozen but the eggs would be fresh. The sunny side up egg yokes looked pathetic for some reason. The extra crispy hash browns were perfect. The country gravy was average with sliced sausage links in them. Overall your small town average breakfast.

Pretty standard family restaurant. They get points for offering gluten-free toast. I ordered the Mexican skillet, which came with salsa on the side. The salsa tasted like tomato sauce. There was some hot sauce on the table (Cholula and Tabasco), so I added some into the salsa. That's right- I had to add hot sauce to the salsa. Hmph. Anyway, the skillet was pretty good.

We been here twice the first time our waitress was the best it was the blonde headed girl. She was worth a star she was fast and friendly even though the place was packed we barely there for 30 min and our bill was little over $25 for 2 person but food was nothing to brag about I would of done better. Anyways we came there again but this time less crowed and our server took way too longer. Breakfast was not great first of all and when we got our bill we can't believe the charges of side cost. 2 side of bacon is $4.39, fresh OJ $4.85, one piece of ham also $4.39 seriously!! the side coast almost as a meal. We were sitting close to the door and hear other customers also complained not satisfied. Never again I don't know how they come up with these reviews of 4 stars??!!Over priced breakfast!

A+!! Road tripping and stopped in for breakfast. Delicious! My husband had Steak and Eggs, great flavor. I had 2 eggs with bacon, done perfectly to order. Friendly, attentive staff. All wearing masks and cleaning everything constantly. We will return.

Back again! Whenever I'm around here, this is my go to place. Super friendly, clean, great food (and a HUGE) menu, with reasonable prices.

The food is good but expensive. For the prices portions should be bigger. Service is ok but the owner is not very nice.

The skillet was excellent, and came on a bed of hash browns that could have been crispier.

The service was fantastic--friendly, attentive, and made us feel genuinely taken care of without being rushed. And the food... absolutely delicious. Everything we ordered was flavorful, well-prepared, and clearly made with quality ingredients. What really stood out was how well everything came together--great service, great food, and a comfortable, inviting vibe. It's the kind of place you leave already planning your next visit. Highly recommend checking it out if you haven't already!

This being a building trying to do all the things (bar, concert venue, restaurant) I was apprehensive about sourcing and quality. When I asked where the hanger steak came from, my server checked and reported it came from Jenifer's Market in Madison--always nice to know where quality ingredients come from. So I ordered the hanger steak. I felt better knowing there was competence at the executive chef level and whomever in the kitchen gave this answer this day. The hanger steak was cooked perfectly to my requested temperature. My only complaint is the lack of dinner rolls. When none came with my entree I asked about it and was told they only come out after 5pm. When I asked at 5pm, I received two - and they are two bite size rolls. But the four bites were worth the wait though I'm suggesting to the place that dinner rolls be made to order with dinner. I didn't love the feel of having to ask for what is listed on the menu (rolls with dinner entrees - no mention of only available after a certain time). Overall, great steak and attentive service, but the bread situation makes me reduce this one star.

We came for breakfast, andI I had the corned beef hash. I substituted a biscuit for toast and although it was huge and well-made, I didn't care for the biscuit''s touch of sweetness. I was very pleased. Then came the pie. Wow! I had never had pie with breakfast before but when at Norske Nook enjoying a slice is practically a requirement. I had the lemon meringue and it was phenomenal. The meringue was so high and perfectly made, it was difficult to eat. Absolutely wonderful. I had been to the original location in Osseo, Wisconsin years ago, and I was pleased to see that this one existed in DeForest. The pies never disappoint. A delightful stop! Our server, Seth, did an excellent job, too. He was warm, attentive, and was working hard to anticipate our needs.

After a Yelp search I found El Alegre Mexican Restaurant with really good reviews and an…read moreinteresting menu. A bit of a drive from Madison, but well worth it. El Alegre is located in a small modern strip of shops, with a party center they run next door. The restaurant is medium sized with a nice bar in the corner by the kitchen. The room is sleek and modern with black walls and tables, wood chairs and floors, and a colorful neon strip around the ceiling. Service was attentive without being intrusive. The menu is two sided and manages to have a nice variety without being overstuffed. I ended up ordering the Camarones a la Diabla, as someone who loves spicy shrimp it sounded great. A bit of a wait for the food, but the place was busy with the dining room almost full including a couple of larger tables. The chips and salsa was ok, but nothing special but provided a nice prelude while I waited for the meal. The meal came out nicely presented on a square white plate, which set off the colorful meal. The shrimp were nice sized, plump and well cooked; the sauce was excellent, not overly spicey, but instead complex and delicious with an interesting mix of flavors, it seemed to be similar to a mole instead of just a hot sauce. The refried beans and spanish rice were both good and the guacamole, sour cream and small salad was a nice compliment to the meal. The flour tortillas were very good, freshly griddled and fresh. I was very impressed with El Alegre, the decor is a nice change from most Mexican restaurants. I was very impressed with their version of Camarones a la Diabla, usually it is served with a fairly simple hot sauce, here they created a wonderful and complex sauce that perfectly complimented the shrimp and provided a true treat. If you are in the area and looking for some great Mexican food El Alegre is well worth a visit. If the rest of the menu is anything like my meal it is a great flavorful interpretation of Mexican food.

Of course there was a Taco Bell close to the exit from I-90, but that wasn't going to cut it. So, we found El Alegre about two miles into town. The place was packed Well, we had a very good meal with happy service. A big sign on the wall in the kitchen said "work hard and be nice to people ". Gotta love that. So we were coming South on I-90 and remembered El Alegre. Being vegetarian, I usually find plenty of options in a Mexican restaurant (and also Chinese and Italian). This menu had a vegetarian section with about six or seven choices, but I looked over the rest of the very large menu and found several versions of Chile Relleño. I've never seen anything but the one stuffed with cheese anywhere else. Well, they had a version stuffed with vegetables! I had to try it. I am so glad I did. It was delicious and a very generous portion served with rice and beans that rose above the standard usually experienced. My wife had a shrimp dish that I sampled and loved. She said the margaritas were also excellent. So, if you find yourself on I-90, you won't regret driving a couple miles off the highway to find El Alegre!
