So sad to have to rank this place so low - the location is great, but my experience was just terrible here. I chose this salon because I needed an updo and face makeup for a gala I was attending. I made the appointment ahead of time, then called the day of to see if there was availability to come earlier. The receptionist adjusted my appointment to be 30 minutes earlier than my original appointment. However, when I arrived my stylist said she never got the message and had booked another client, so I needed to wait. I returned to the salon at my original appointment time, and was asked to wait again because she was with the same client. My appointment ended up starting 45 minutes after what I had scheduled. Now for the services... I brought photos of the hair style I wanted - honestly, it was a very simple updo - and one that I have asked for at other salons without any problems. I looked in the mirror after she completed it, and I was just so disappointed. I've never actually seen a worse updo, and also one that didn't even remotely resemble the photo. I asked politely for some adjustments, which she made, but we never got close to the desired effect. She noted I had short hair and the style was difficult, yet my hair is past my shoulders and I have had multiple stylists previously execute this hairstyle. Since we were running late on time already, I decided I would just fix it when I got home. Now for makeup (I honestly should have just left after the updo). I was asked to bring my own foundation, and I had requested eyelash application. The stylist glued them on, and left a big smear of excess glue on my eyelid. I mentioned they didn't appear to be glued appropriately and she insisted they were...within minutes of leaving the salon they fell off. As for the rest of the makeup, I was asked to bring my own foundation, and then the stylist proceeded to cover my face in bronzer. No other makeup was applied. Like, none. At this point I was just trying to leave without making a scene. I really was shocked at the poor quality of the services. When I asked her what I owed her, the stylist didn't know the prices to charge me. She actually asked me to look up their price list online. An updo was $75 and makeup was $95 with lashes - when I commented that she didn't apply any makeup besides bronzer and lashes, she offered to charge me half for makeup. I honestly just wanted to leave the salon so badly that I paid it and left. I rushed home with enough time to barely scrub the makeup off my face and frantically fix my hair before the gala. Long story short - There are so many better salons here in Baltimore to go to, I'd highly, highly recommend looking elsewhere. This was a nightmare! read more

Can't always trust the reviews! I purchased a Groupon for a blowout because I'll be traveling a lot and having nice hair is important to me. Kimya was super accommodating in finding me an appointment same-day before I needed to go to the airport. The salon itself is clean and chic and I really enjoyed the whole experience. She did an amazing job on my hair and I can't stop touching it! She was also very personable and helpful in telling me about other places to see in Baltimore. I'll definitely be back! read more

I was walking around Federal Hill and needed a trim for my hair. I walked into Definition and they were able to make me an appointment for an hour and a half later. The atmosphere was really nice and the stylists were all kind and funny. They even let my fiancé watch TV in the back while I got my hair done. My stylist was Danny and he was great! Very personable and he did a great job with my hair. He trimmed it and managed to get my fine hair (which never holds any style) into gorgeous curls. Made an appointment for a blow out for a rehearsal dinner and wedding weekend. Received an email confirmation at the time and then a text and email confirmation the day before. Showed up on time for my appointment and it was closed. Tried calling and waiting over 20 minutes for someone to show up and no one ever did. Never received any follow up and am now down money because I had purchased a groupon for them. Extremely disappointed and unsatisfied. read more

Booked an appointment online and confirmed via e-mail. When I showed up, no one was at the salon. When I contacted the salon via e-mail, I was later told that the stylist was sick so no one would be in that day. I needed the blowout for a commercial I was filming that evening, so I was basically screwed. I can't speak to the services- maybe they give great blowouts- but I won't be back due to unprofessional business practices. read more

I went in after buying their Groupon online for a cut/balayage/blow dry. I showed the stylist a picture of the balayage I wanted and came out with yellow, streaky, patchy hair :/ it's not at all like the picture, it's looks terrible! I callled back to ask if they could fix it and was told it would be $85 to have it fixed. Will not be going back to this salon! read more

I usually do not write reviews but after getting my hair colored and cut at Definition salon, I had write a review. Like most women I was hesitant to try a new stylist. However, I decided to visit definition because it was recommended to me by a great friend and it is in a convenient location. The stylist Paul, who also is the owner, made me feel at ease as soon as I walked through the door. I was immediately greeted and ask if I would like a beverage before I got started. To my surprise, there was no wait! The lovely shampoo assistant took her time shampooing my hair; which felt awesome. She discussed each product she used before using it. When I sat in a Paul's chair, he was very attentive and enthusiastic in finding what would look good on me. The end result was magnificent. I was extremely pleased with my hair and level of service. Myself and 2 other friends had updo appointments at the same time for a gala. We got emails 45 minutes prior to the appointments cancelling them. We were told the ONE stylist that was doing all our hair at the same appointment time ?!?!?! Had a family emergency. We walked to the salon to discuss matters further and the salon was closed. This was a Saturday! We spoke to other local businesses that claimed this is a frequent thing with this salon. Very poor professionalism. read more

Don't trust the bad reviews, this place deserves a 5 star rating!! This salon is absolutely wonderful!! I found this salon on Groupon and got a haircut and balayage by Kimya. It was wonderful! She was super accommodating and worked with my schedule to get an appointment set up for me. What I liked the most about Kimya is she listened to what I wanted and exceeded by expectations! I have received tons of compliments from my friends and coworkers on my hair cut and color. I highly recommend this salon and will be back. read more

I was in town for a wedding and needed a quick blowout. I arrived with my hair pre-washed and ready to go. The stylist was super friendly and polite. However, upon checking out they tried to charge me $65 even though I did not get my hair washed. I was shocked, and somehow the price went immediately to $55...I wasn't told there was an upcharge for using a styling tool and usually a blowout is just...a blowout. Doesn't seem like you need to use an iron to get a subtle curl. At home I pay $65 for a wash, cut, and style at a comparable salon. Again, really nice people, but much more expensive than I thought necessary. 20 mins after leaving the salon most of my curls fell out. read more

First let me say that the ship itself is a 5star but the employee I encountered Latoya (Toya) gets a one star. I waited 10 plus hours for sew in and color. Even after waiting color was blue instead of purple. And my hair wasn't cut as I insisted. I was told to come back the next day for cut and curl @8am and she didn't show until 1130am . She is very disrespectful and inconsiderate. Paying 250$ for a service I should get A1 customer service. She will never get my money again ! I'm beyond pissed read more

I went into the salon bc I dyed my hair on my own and it became a color that was more orange than I would have hoped. I went into the salon on Monday and showed Toya what I needed fixed and she scheduled me for the next day. She darkened my roots to my natural color exactly the way I wanted and was very reassuring that she knew what she was doing throughout the process. Definitely recommend! read more

I came in about a month ago with a Groupon deal for a balayage and haircut for $85. This place seemed fairly new so there weren't many reviews. I gave it a chance because it wasn't far from me. I sat down with the stylist, Eril Moore, and showed her pictures of what I wanted. A dark brown base with a light caramel balayage color. I came in with a faded black cherry color that was done back in January. My natural hair color is very dark brown, so I had a slight dark red tint left in my hair at this point. I've been to several salons in my time and all will ask at least a couple questions to get a feel for what you're looking for. She asked none. First red flag. After she had already mixed the color, she states that it may come out 2 different ways. Second red flag. I tried to be optimistic at this point. Not even halfway through I knew this wasn't going to be at all like what I asked for. I couldn't see any color change really. I told her, she didn't comment. Third red flag. Haircut time. I've gotten the same cut for years, describe it the same to everyone. I wanted layers framing the face, starting around the tip of the nose. She says, "I'll just give you bangs". Umm, no, that's not what I asked for! Fourth red flag. At this point I'm completely over this experience. When she shows me the finished product I tell her I don't like it, see no real color change and it looks nothing like what I asked for. She argues that she told me it may come out different. I get that when you put color over previous color that it may be different than what you wanted, but this was nowhere near what I wanted, and the cut wasn't that good. I would assume she would offer some consolation or discount, but no she charges me the full amount. I get it's already a deal, but as a business owner myself, if a customer is unhappy I am going to do everything to make sure they leave happy. So that they come back! After all that is what these Groupon deals are for, to draw business in. But if you're going to do a half-ass job because it's a Groupon deal then you shouldn't offer it. I digress. I leave thinking, maybe I'll like it later. Two hours go by and I'm still hating it. I call Eril and tell her, she proceeds to instantly get an attitude, over-talk me and argue that she told me it probably wouldn't come out how I wanted. She asks for pictures and says she will call me back in a couple minutes. Your customer is unhappy with the service, find a way to make that customer happy, not argue with them! 45 minutes go by with no word. I call her back, after more of her arguing, over-talking, and being rude, she says verbatim "you're a horrible customer!" At this point, I'm done with her, and ask for the owner. Talk to him (he's very nice) and he states that I could come in for a discounted rate to fix it but it may take several sessions. At this point I have no desire to come back. He says she is unfortunately a contract stylist so it's up to her if she wants to refund me. Brilliant. Then I get an email from Eril stating that $25 would be refunded. Now why didn't she just offer that in the beginning? This was a month ago, NOTHING was ever refunded to my card! I would never recommend this stylist, Eril Moore! She is extremely rude and unprofessional! Unfortunately, she is representative of this salon, so I would never come back or recommend this salon either. Worst experience ever! read more
