This place was great! Stayed her for one night while enjoying the local nature. First off our room was great, comfy bed, decorated nice. As well as the rest of the hotel was really pretty and eclectic. Wanted to enjoy the food and the live music. Got seats right up front at the bar. Jazz band was excellent, really enjoyed ourselves. The food was also great, nothing innovative but classic done right. Started with their slip pea soup, loved it. For entrees we shared the Shrimp scampi and the beef bourguignon. They were both fantastic and paired nicely with their wine selection. Finished off with pumpkin bread pudding. What a great ending to this meal. We also had the free breakfast the next morning and it was very nice. Lots of breads and muffins, yogurt, fresh fruits, coffee, juice and soft boiled eggs. Love this place and can't wait to stay here again soon.

Updated review, September 2024: Hi there! I'm still a local and me and my family went back to the Deer Head to celebrate my father's birthday Music: $20 cover charge for what would consider a good jazz trio (not a jazz fan myself but I still enjoyed it) Service: super friendly, excellent timing, gave great recommendations! Huge improvement here! Food: we ordered the mezze platter to share, pear and arugula flatbread, manicotti, salmon, and tuna (see pictures). Everything was fresh and delicious! Entrees came with salad and grilled focaccia, the balsamic dressing was excellent! Another highlight was the risotto cake that came with the salmon. Great vegetarian options! Drinks: Bullet whiskey manhattan special highly recommend; wines and beers top quality and served ice cold Price: this can vary significantly depending on if you come for a drink, maybe a snack to a full multi-course meal Final thought: If you are a jazz fan definitely check it out. Food and drinks are fresh and tasty but this is a jazz bar that serves food, the jazz is the star here.

Legendary Jazz venue with surprisingly good vegan options to go along with the music. A fabulous night with Paul Jost that hit all the right notes. Definitely a night to remember.

Great jazz club they had been around for long time. Located in historic inn, which has rooms to rent. When music is live, a cover charge is added. Food is good as service.

Food Style & Presentation: Homestyle; Good Customer Service: Excellent Ambiance & Aesthetic: A homey feel with whimsical lighting and jazz-inspired wall art Price Range: $$ Deer Head Inn is a quaint jazz club that has live music, dining and lodging. While I stood here two nights and loved it, this review is focused on the dining experience. Many people come here just for the music and dinner/drinks. We purchased the jazz package add-on, which includes the live performance from 7-10 PM and a $65 credit toward food (excluding alcoholic beverages, tax and gratuity). We drank strong cocktails served by a friendly bartender and spaced out our food orders while enjoying the sounds of the Parker Trio: Jon Ballantyne on the piano, Gene Perla on bass and Bryon Landham on drums. We shared the baked brie, a soft cow's milk cheese that originates from Brie in Northern France. It came topped with mixed berries in a sauce, shaved nuts and pita wedges. The sweet and tart flavor of the berries was a nice juxtaposition with the subtle, creamy and buttery taste of brie. For my entrée, I ordered the Eggplant Rollatini - fried and rolled eggplant slices with ricotta cheese filling - over linguine with marinara sauce. It came with a choice of soup or house salad. I enjoyed the comforting and autumn flavor of the sweet and fresh-tasting ginger carrot soup. Eggplant rollatini is a fave of mine with the combination of the mildness/low salt profile of the ricotta and the tanginess of the marinara. We ended the night with a decadent and rich chocolate mousse (not pictured) and chatting it up with kind strangers and the musicians. We're looking forward to our next stay here!

    Great entertainment!

Had a great dinner, great entertainment, and great service. Nice layout. We sat in the rear so we could talk softly but still see the entertainment. Hope to return sometime!

Both were so friendly and knowledgeable when asked about the menu. I was so excited to see Chicken Marsala with spinach on the menu. Working out of town can be a chore when all you eat is fast food. My husband ordered the fried haddock. The chicken wasn't even warm and the Marsala sauce was gummy and pretty disgusting. My mashed potatoes were grey/brown and not even warm. The vegetables were also room temperature without any texture or taste. After trying a bite of each, I stopped. My husband had a large piece of fish so he cut me a nice sized piece. It was breading. About 75% of his "large" fish was breading. I Ate a handful of his French fries and we left. I am so disappointed. The sweet server asked if she could get me something else but we didn't have time as we had to go back to work.

With limited spots in the area to eat we found Sycamore on google and remembered passing it on our way up. The ambiance is lovely with Tiffany lamps hovering above the tables, clean crisp linen tablecloths and rich wood tables. The servers were friendly and we were seated right away. We were Just grabbing sandwiches but the entrees all seemed delicious. Well thought out meals that appear to be concocted to treat the palate. We started with the sausage dip. Something different we hadn't ever had before a mixture of cheese and sausage served with Bavarian pretzel rods. Very similar to a chorizo queso - but not spicy. Our chicken cheese steak and buffalo wrap were brought to us quickly. They were on the smaller side than what we are used to but they were made with intention and served with plenty of fries. With both indoor and outdoor seating a bar area and dining room. Sycamore is a nice place to pop in while exploring the area.

Absolutely unacceptable experience…read more We came back because we enjoyed our first visit, but this visit guaranteed we'll never return. I ordered a margarita, and the glass literally smelled like a wet dog. I couldn't even drink it. I told the bartender, Jessie, and instead asked for a single shot of tequila with fruit. Before leaving, I ordered another single shot. When the bill arrived, I was charged for double shots on both drinks. I immediately told Jessie I had ordered singles. Her response? "Well, I gave you doubles." That's not how ordering drinks works. Customers don't order one thing and then get charged for something more expensive because the bartender decided to pour it. If you're going to serve a double, you ask first. You don't make that decision for the customer and then expect them to pay for it. Only after I questioned the bill did she remove the extra charges. To make matters worse, we were charged $24 for two Ketel One martinis, plus another $8 on each, making the pricing even more ridiculous. This experience left me feeling like I had to inspect every line of my bill just to make sure I wasn't being overcharged. If I hadn't paid attention, I would have walked out paying for drinks I never ordered. Between the dirty glass, the unexplained upcharges, and having to argue over the bill, this was one of the most disappointing bar experiences I've had in a long time. My advice: Check your bill carefully before you pay. Every single line. Bartenders like this should be fired. They make the business look bad !
