Working storm trouble, I googled nearby local restaurants looking for a new dining experience. The hostess and server were incredible. Both were so friendly and knowledgeable when asked about the menu. I was so excited to see Chicken Marsala with spinach on the menu. Working out of town can be a chore when all you eat is fast food. My husband ordered the fried haddock. The chicken wasn't even warm and the Marsala sauce was gummy and pretty disgusting. My mashed potatoes were grey/brown and not even warm. The vegetables were also room temperature without any texture or taste. After trying a bite of each, I stopped. My husband had a large piece of fish so he cut me a nice sized piece. It was breading. About 75% of his "large" fish was breading. I Ate a handful of his French fries and we left. I am so disappointed. After visiting Raymondskill Falls we were ready for a bite to eat before taking the 2 hour drive back to the city. With limited spots in the area to eat we found Sycamore on google and remembered passing it on our way up. The ambiance is lovely with Tiffany lamps hovering above the tables, clean crisp linen tablecloths and rich wood tables. The servers were friendly and we were seated right away. We were Just grabbing sandwiches but the entrees all seemed delicious. Well thought out meals that appear to be concocted to treat the palate. We started with the sausage dip. Something different we hadn't ever had before a mixture of cheese and sausage served with Bavarian pretzel rods. Very similar to a chorizo queso - but not spicy. Our chicken cheese steak and buffalo wrap were brought to us quickly. They were on the smaller side than what we are used to but they were made with intention and served with plenty of fries. My husband ordered the same but added filet mignon tips; the meat was very tough, unseasoned, close to inedible -- no way it could have been filet. The service was friendly. Candace was my bartender, and she was working alone for the night at the bar. I ordered the lemon drop martini to start, and it was cool. Then I got the pinot nior. First time visiting this establishment and we were pleasantly surprised. We came for an early dinner between 4 and 5 so there were not many people there. Wow, there was some tasty food here! We were driving this way to avoid the highway during a trential downpour which had bumper to bumper traffic so we came across this place purely by accident and we were so happy we did! We had the Brie and fig in a puff pastery appetizer which was so delicious, I could have kept eating that! I had the chicken cheese steak, chicken was lumps of chicken breasts and not shaved which I actually prefer, had a great taste to it and the fries were really good too! My wife had the Black Bean and Polenta which she thought was absolutely amazing and the best meal she's eaten on this trip. They had some live music going which was loud enough to hear but not so loud as to have to shout to be heard at our table. Place was reasonably wheelchair accessible. Good handicap spots out front, no issue getting in, and my wife was able to move around and get into and out of the bathroom in her wheelchair without issues. I usually try to stress the positive. In this case that positive is very little apart from a nice but timid server. We live in a nearby town but had never gone to this restaurant and were looking for a nice place for my husband, adult son and I to have a pleasant casual dinner on Christmas Eve. I made reservations for 4:45. But considering the holiday we left early and got there around 4:15. We approached the hostess station, explained we knew were early and were willing to wait. To our surprise our table was available. While the place seemed empty the decor was nice. Servers and staff were bustling around tweaking table settings. We were seated and ordered: DS had a cheeseburger and my husband and I each ordered the fried shrimp platter. Our food arrived fairly quickly. What arrived was shocking. I had when we were on tight budgets gotten sea-pack frozen shrimp. Fair quality for the price. But this was not that price. This was a restaurant. Yet the 6 small shrimp on my plate looked just like them. And tasted just as bland. They were accompanied by a cup of ketchup and a cup of semifrozen cocktail sauce that had no taste at all. The fries had that coating some have. Not spicy or a seasoning but meant to give a crispy effect? In addition there was what I believe was meant to be coleslaw, white cabbage with a sourcream aftertaste to the mayonnaise on it. Our son's burger was charred but otherwise tasteless. As we were eating the hostess stepped behind my husband and told him to move forward to provide more room for the table behind him. My husband is 6ft tall and lanky, hardly the kind to take up space. Nevertheless, he stopped eating and moved presumably for people about to be seated. At some point he realized he needed to use the restroom. After several minutes and having been passed by no less than 8 staff members he finally caught someone's attention. He asked her where the restroom was. Her response was a blank stare and a "what?". He finally said "I need to use the toilet". OK. When he got back we very politely asked the aforementioned timid but delightful server for the check, paid the bill and left what has got to be one of the worst dining experiences of my life. Not to insult the fine folks at Sea Pack but really for the prices, I was astonished. Oh, and that table my husband room for? There was no one in sight to be seated at it. Nor was there anyone waiting in the entranceway. We will not be back. Do not waste your time or money. Can I give it negative stars? read more

When traveling, my husband and I like to find local restaurants that offer farm to table-type cuisine and stay away from the chains. Sycamore Grill was our latest such discovery. House special Sycamore Grill salad was a bed of fresh spinach sprinkled with dried cranberries, chopped pecans, crumbled blue cheese and served with house dressing which is a creamy maple dressing is a must try! Either as a side or dinner salad with an added protein. I ordered the Water Gap Sangria which was light and fruity with a peachy overtone. We shared an appetizer of cheesy sausage dip with pretzels but found it a little too salty. The pretzels were obviously freshly made because they were served warm, soft and fluffy inside, brown and salty on the outside. The combination was a little much. Elsie, our server was very efficient, knowledgeable about the menu and never rushed us but was always nearby checking on us. For entrees I ordered one of the nightly specials, Chicken Saltimboca and my husband had the Water Gap Chicken. Both very good, served hot with steamed veggies. For dessert we shared a Cannoli Cheesecake which was a LARGE portion as well as creamy and delicious. I had a cup of decaf with dessert which was freshly made and served with real cream. Tables and chairs are heavy and wooden and set with porcelain plates and linen napkins and cutlery was wiped clean of spots and streaks. Service was excellent, atmosphere relaxed yet conducive for dinner conversation and the best part was the bill was right at $100! Not bad for all we had. They also have happy hour drink specials and outdoor seating if you are traveling with a pet. If we ever get back to the Poconos, we will be back and encourage everyone to give them a try. I really like this restaurant. I've been there once in 2019 and again yesterday. I had forgotten about it in between, during Covid! But this place is gorgeous inside, has excellent, very attentive service, and the food is so good. The french onion soup had a delicious, slightly sweet broth. The baked brie and fig with crackers was super creamy and tasty. The cocktail I had was pear vodka, elderberry liqueur, Moscato, etc. It was really good, especially if you like floral tastes. The Italian chicken and eggplant with pesto risotto and Brussels sprouts was excellent. The pesto risotto was the best part! And my husband's burger and fries were good. Stopped in for lunch one day recently. Happy to see they're taking COVID precautions seriously! There was a limited menu, but they still have good options. The cheesesteak was enough for two people. Meat was flavorful, ample cheese, and just the right bun to hold up to everything in the sandwich. Thank you for making marinara sauce an option (because it shouldn't be standard or expected!). Afterwards, I felt like getting a cocktail and I stopped at the closest bar nearby and this is the bar for me moving forward whenever I come back to Mt Minsi. Trish was my bartender, and she was so pleasant and joyful (refreshing to see nowadays). I got myself an app which was filet mignon tips on garlic cheesy bread and my cocktail was just a marg since they don't have any craft cocktails that includes tequila (the only downfall) but she was more than willing to make my request and both of my choices were delicious! We cannot thank The Sycamore Grill enough for making our celebration the best that it could be!
