We've been ordering meals from Alec/Deeply Nourished for years. I was first referred by a friend, and when I found out Alec uses organic/clean ingredients to make the meals, I had to try it! Since that first order we've ordered many, many times from Alec during busy weeks when we don't have time to make meals at home. I love how delicious and nutritious all the meals are, and Alec is always coming out with new and interesting dishes. Everything is organic, meats are grass fed/wild caught, and oils are clean (no seed oils). My favorites are the beef rendang, salmon chimichurri and pomegranate chicken. I like to get these in "family box" sizes so we eat the protein with either salad or rice we make at home, the food lasts longer this way. His entrees are also delicious and we sometimes get these for my husband to take to work with him. I also love the pesto and garlic chili sauces - we get these in the 8oz jars and they go so well with the proteins (or other meals we make at home)! For dessert I love the peanut butter bars and currently, the mochi cake (new item)! Delivery is always prompt. Alec is also really kind and very quick to respond to emails or texts. I have asked him about the surfaces food is cooked on and appreciated that they only cook on stainless steel and parchment paper, as this is really important and often overlooked! He also packs the meals in eco-friendly/sustainable boxes and is always updating packaging with the next best option. I also love that the big jar sauces come in glass mason jars. I have worked with Chef Alec Hurley for three weeks in a row to provide Sunday Dinner for Transgender women in the city. Where do I begin? As a transwoman of color, new to the west coast and as newbie in the marketplace for a personal chef, I didn't really know what to expect. After speaking with a handful of other personal chefs. I contacted Chef Alec and I am so glad I did! Over the course of the three weeks I have had an opportunity to witness how serious he takes his craft, how compassionate, and full of optimistic faith he is. . We had Alec prepare meals for 16 people during a family reunion weekend. He helped plan the meals and then cooked, pretty much on his own, three really wonderful dinners. Most of the attendees were foodies (and former chefs) and they were impressed with the quality and taste of the food. But beyond that, Alec is one of the most grounded and easy-going people you'll meet. He made the dinner prep fun and relaxed. Some of the attendees chipped in to help, mostly to learn some of his techniques. Most importantly, Alec is really into healthy eating and lifestyle. So the meal was very healthy (no dairy, no gluten, low-sugar). And, to our amazement, the "eat-everything and anything" gourmets in the group had no idea that all of the food was healthy. Most of them didn't know that the "sour cream" was actually raw cashews. Or that the New England fish chowder was thickened with corn cobs and "sour cream". They loved every bite. Bottom line: we had a blast working with Alec and strongly recommend his services. He worked overtime to make sure everyone had what they needed and that the meal met his high standards. Chef Alec arrived last night at our rental house as a surprise 40th anniversary dinner and 70th birthday. We started with a charcuterie board that could have been the whole meal in and of itself. Alec came to my home to show me how to make a few good healthy meals and to expand my culinary knowledge. I don't have a chef's kitchen - but he made do with my simple utensils, etc. We had a few conversations beforehand to discuss what I was looking for, what I hoped to gain, and Alec made suggestions for what we should cook. So together we made a beautiful Ahi tuna salad with a coco amino and rice vinegar sauce and roasted beet salad with a pesto sauce. I learned so much! Not only for those two dishes, but how to make various healthy sauces to add to other meals, ideas to make things differently and I generally felt more empowered in my cooking. In fact, I took what he taught me and used it in variations throughout the week. Alec brought all the ingredients and explained why and how to do things, so I now have a better understanding of how to mix flavors, proportions, and overall can do these things on my own with confidence.
