We came here for a late lunch, so we were lucky that there was a parking spot opened up right in the plaza. I can not imagine how difficult parking would be during the busy time! I assume you will need to find street parking. Although the plaza is small, the restaurant is big! It has many tables inside, including larger areas for groups. We went in and saw a family having dinner together. That really gave the restaurant a warm family vibe. You can see in the decorations that they have earned many recognitions and had even been on Guy's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives show! What an amazing place! We started the lunch with a nice mint lemonade! OMG! I highly recommend this! I would go back just for this, so refreshing and perfect way to be primed for a great meal. We had three items, Soujouk Flat Bread, Baba Ghannouj, and Ouzi Lamb. The portion is large! We could not finish and had to take to-go for two of us. I love their baba ghannouj! Very authentic and come with the bread. The serve was smiling when I asked whether it came with the bread. He eventually also told us that we should open the bread like a pita and put baba ghannouj in there. I appreciate the guidance on how to enjoy the food. I also loved soujouk flat bread. So delicious! The highly recommended ouzi lamb lived up to the expectation and it's very delicious. Overall, I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. We will come back for sure because they have so many good delicious food on the menu that we need to try!

I love the floral and pistachio taste, and it doesn't leave you feeling heavy afterwards. The mint lemonade is also a must have- tastes like it came from the garden in the best way possible. For savories, I had the spinach and cheese bajeen, baba gannouj, and the lamb fatteh - all had a lot of flavor and tasted homemade. I love trying new foods so will have to come back with more friends and try other things on the menu. The downside of this place was being seated on the right side of the restaurant near the carry out section. This was the pit of despair. I noticed that most of the staff goes to the other end first, and as a result 4 tables got seated after us and all of them had food on their table before we managed to flag one of the staff. It was definitely busy in there but he replied that he was simply going in order, but apparently order or left side to right side instead of arrival. I recommend trying to get seated on the side w the stained glass windows for better service. Other than that, the experience overall was pleasant.

THE HALAL SHACK @ SDSU…read more This spot is located in East Commons at SDSU. For parking, I'd recommend P1, P3, or P4. Just keep in mind that parking isn't free, so make sure to check the SDSU website for updated rates before you go. I've always enjoyed coming to this spot since my freshman year. Everything is super flavorful and seasoned well, and I love how most of the menu is high in protein. I usually get their rice bowl with chicken, and then you can add whatever toppings you want. It reminds me of a mix between Chipotle and CAVA, but with more of a Mediterranean, healthier twist. Their rice bowls are my favorite. You can also get fries and build a fry bowl, or you can make a build-your-own halal wrap. They have a lot of options, which I like. The staff isn't the friendliest, and every time I'm there it feels a bit rushed, like you have to know exactly what you want right away. The portions are decent, not overly big. I wouldn't recommend asking for extra anything unless you're okay with paying more, because they definitely charge for every add-on. One thing that's a little annoying is that you can't get toppings on the side everything has to go directly into your bowl. Extras like avocado cost more, and the bowls already run around $17, so it's definitely on the pricier side. Prices are higher since it's on a university campus, so just be aware of that. The ambiance is good overall. It's located in a food-court style area, so you just get your food and sit anywhere in East Commons. It's a popular spot for SDSU students, so you'll definitely be surrounded by college students. Other than that, it's a great place, and I love coming here especially on days when I'm craving a healthier rice bowl.

The white and hot white sauces are my favorites. A bit pricey ($16 for a rice bowl) but a good amount of food. The line moves quickly and the food always tastes fresh.

The moment I walked in, I was warmly greeted and asked if I wanted a table for one. I said no, I was hoping to order takeout, and she kindly invited me to sit at the bar while I looked over the menu. Right away, the atmosphere felt welcoming, beautiful, and relaxed. I ordered my food, sipped my water, and honestly didn't think I had ordered that much. Then she came out with multiple filled brown bags of food! First of all, the prices were amazing. Second... the food was TOP NOTCH and completely different from what I had the night before. Everything was packed with flavor without being overloaded with salt. Fresh, vibrant, rich, and incredibly satisfying. The waitress/hostess was knowledgeable, friendly, and gave great recommendations on what to try. You can tell the staff truly cares about the experience. I will absolutely be back the next time I visit San Diego again. And not that I recommend eating while driving ... but the next day on my drive back to Ventura County, I spread out my leftovers and happily snacked on hummus, baba ghanoush, and dolma all the way home. That alone says everything about how good this place was.

The only reason I'm leaving 3 stars is because of my last experience. I stopped by about 10 minutes before closing to grab a bottle of water and one of the pre-made meals they already had ready. Before walking in, I even asked if they were still open. The guy said yes, but from the way he talked and acted, it really felt like I wasn't welcome there. He immediately asked if I was paying with a card, and the whole interaction just felt off. I don't usually leave reviews like this because, at the end of the day, it's not a huge deal and I'll probably still come back. I just wanted some food for work the next day and a bottle of water. It was just one of those moments where better customer service would've made all the difference. Shit happens.
