Honestly, I don't know what changed, but whoever was the opening kitchen shift today (August 13th), you need to know that it was the BEST meal we've received from Y&Y. So much so that I actually had to come to Yelp and leave a review, it was that good. Usually our dishes would come with so much oil that we would have to drain off the excess; not today. Today's dishes were not only cooked beautifully with spices in it that I had never even tasted in the dish before, but there was no layer of oil that our food would have been swimming in. It was wonderful I usually get the vegan chana masala and sometimes in the past it would taste like there may have been some sort of butter in it (or perhaps ghee) and maybe whoever was cooking it didn't know not to use it, but this time around it didn't give me that taste and actually tasted dairy-free, which put my mind at ease. All-in-all, we will be coming back and hoping we get this cook again because it was just so so good

I ordered to go so can't rate the dining experience, only the food I ordered. I got the mutter…read morepaneer and veggie samosas which came with rice. My husband got the chicken tikka masala, with garlic naan and a mango lassi. The mutter paneer tasted under seasoned with no distinct flavor, the paneer felt like didn't absorb any seasonings at all. So not bad but not something I would reorder. The samosas were good. I tasted the curry sauce from the chicken tikka masala and that had much better flavor. Both were heavy (butter/heavy cream based). The mango lassi was surprisingly the most balanced I ever had. They are usually over sweet but this one was just right. If I return I would order something different.

I am glad I found a decent Indian buffet to go to. I have been a few times…read more Very good and large selection of items on the buffet. My favorite item they have is vegetable korma, so delicious especially the sauce. Only complaint they often only have chicken tika masala (which is pretty good) for the chicken dish, I wish they would change it up to another chicken dish. They always have tandoori chicken too. The one lamb or goat meat dish. Many other things to try. Very reasonable cost.

1-Star Review My…read morewife and I have been regular customers at Himalayan House on Friars Road for quite some time. We come here once or twice a week for lunch, sometimes just the two of us and often with two friends. Unfortunately, after what happened today, we will not be returning. Today, my wife and I came in by ourselves because we had not been able to get a response from our two friends about whether they wanted to join us. We were seated at a smaller table, which was completely reasonable for two people. About 10 minutes later, our friends texted us that they were on their way. When they arrived, we politely asked if we could move to a larger table. The restaurant was approximately 60% empty, and there were plenty of larger tables available. Instead of simply accommodating the request, the gentleman working there made a big issue out of it and insisted on adding two chairs to our small table. I explained that four people would be crowded and that we would simply prefer to sit comfortably at one of the many available larger tables. At that point, I asked why this was becoming such a big deal. His response was, "Yes, it is a big deal." He then told me that we should have told him from the beginning that we were going to be four people. I explained that we genuinely did not know our friends were coming when we arrived. I also asked him not to be disrespectful and simply allow us to move to a larger table. He then explained that the problem was that he would have to clean two tables instead of one. That was the moment we decided that this was no longer worth it. My wife and I paid for our meals, our friends left with us, and the four of us walked out. I understand that restaurants have procedures and that tables need to be cleaned. But when you have regular customers, a restaurant that is more than half empty, and four people simply asking to move to a larger table so they can sit comfortably, turning it into an argument is completely unnecessary. Hospitality is about making customers feel welcome and accommodating reasonable requests. If someone is unwilling to be hospitable, patient, and respectful toward customers, then they should not be working in the hospitality business. It is especially disappointing because we were frequent customers and genuinely enjoyed coming here. One unnecessary confrontation over something this minor has now cost the restaurant four regular customers.

This trip we ordered the deconstructed samosa and it's going to be one of my "must haves" on any future trips. I ordered some extra naan to finish the creamy sauce, it was SO good. Decided on the Masala with chicken for my entree. I was happy with the portion size and amount of protein. The only thing I was disappointed in this time around was the garlic naan. When I've ordered it in the past, it's had a pleasant garlic flavor to it. This time, I barely tasted any garlic. Hopefully it was just a one-time thing, and it's better next time. Other than that, the service has always been good and friendly. I highly recommend stopping by!

The spice level is perfect, you feel that heat in the first bite but it doesn't absolutely overwhelm you to a point of sweating. The curry fries are delicious & the cheese samosas (not pictured) were a hit. The service was good, not spectacular. There were only a couple of tables seated and we rarely saw our server which was a bit frustrating - but when we did she was very nice. The restaurant is quaint but very pretty and has a good feel about it! We will be back for sure.
