Chicken Vindaloo Saag Aloo Plain Naan lunch plate

I've had dinner a few times before, but this time, came for the $15 lunch special. You get choice of two dishes, daal, rice, naan, some pickle potatoes and carrots, and some delicious rice pudding. We got the veggie korma, chicken tikka masala, sagg aloo, and chicken vindaloo. It was a nice lunch and we both had plenty to take home. There is also a great little Indian market next door you should definitely check out when you come.

My husband and I had dinner here on a Wednesday night and it was busy but we were greeted and seating pretty quickly. The employees were all very nice. Love that they have their awards presented by the door. The place isn't load, you can have a nice conversation with your table. They have a good size menu with different selections. Lots of vegetarian options which is nice! We tried the Chili momo dumplings, they had good flavor, pepper forward, and good herb seasoning. We got these as a spice level 5 and it had a good kick. Then we tried the Mango Chicken and Chicken Korma (spice level 10) both were 9/10 , creamy, spicy, and flavorful! Im a big fan of spicy food and this #10 was spicy but definitely not the spiciest I've had. The best part was the Cheese Garlic Naan 10/10 recommend! Will be back to try more items.

Went here on a Sunday afternoon and got seated right away. It was my first time, but my partner has been raving about this place for a while. We ordered the chicken tikka masala and chicken chili, along with basmati rice, naan, and cheese naan. Between the two dishes, the chicken chili was definitely my favorite. We asked for a 6/10 spice level, but honestly, I could've handled it even spicier. Next time, I'll bump it up a few notches. Same for the masala; we got it at a 6/10 too, but it didn't really bring much heat, in my opinion. Overall, this place will definitely be the first spot I think of whenever I'm craving Indian food. Can't wait to come back and turn up the spice!

This is my favorite Indian food spot and I have been coming here for a while! Takeout or dine in the service is always wonderful and the quality of food is always up to par, this time around we got the chicken tikka masala which is so flavorful and creamy and tried the chili chicken which easily became a new favorite You also get some lentil soup which is always a nice way to start the meal, can't rave about this place enough!!

Went in for a take out lunch special, for about $15 you get a ton of delicious food. With the lunch special comes: lentil soup (a smidge bland but might be because of my other dishes), 2 entrees (I picked Chana masala - delicious!! And chicken vindaloo - tasty, in a different style than I'm used to, this one had potatos), lots of rice, pickled veg, two triangles of naan (one was perfect, one was doughy), and rice pudding. I'll be back to try some of their other dishes, but will also certainly order the Chana masala again in the future. I ordered when I arrived and it took only about 10 minutes for the food to be ready. They gave it to me all wrapped to contain the sauces, and with silverware.

Himalayan Cuisine is one of those rare places that's always consistently excellent. From their perfectly cooked chicken tikka tandoori to classic staples like butter chicken and lamb tikka masala, every dish hits the mark--rich, flavorful, and comforting without ever being heavy. We've never had a disappointing meal here. On top of the food, the customer service is truly top-notch: the staff is warm, attentive, and genuinely cares about making sure you have a great experience. A total go-to that never lets us down.

I have been coming here for years and was a frequented spot with friends. Coming here with friends or any group is recommended since the food portions are large and family style dining encouraged. Some of the highlights include the ample parking lot and the large restaurant with its decor that feels like you're in Nepal. The staff is amazing...every time I've come here they have been so friendly and attentive and treat us as friends. And of course, the food - delicious and there is something for everyone. I myself always get the masala chai and veggie samosas and usually some kind of chicken dish. But For this visit, it felt like we ordered the entire menu with about 12 different dishes. Such great variety, spice levels and flavors! A great meet up spot and almost guarantee you'll have left overs to take home.

I came here for the first time with a good friend of mine . My first impression was this is a really cute and cozy decor . There weren't many people here dining and I saw probably 3-4 servers . We both ordered the chicken tikka masala with rice and garlic cilantro naan . I like that you get to pick your spice level. They recommend spice level four because I didn't want too spicy and it was absolutely perfect. My friend went with seven he really thought that was perfect spice for a spicy lover . It came with a delicious lentil soup . The food was 4 stars . The reason for the three star review is because the service was pretty bad. We kept having to go up to them to ask for something to drink, , to ask which one was a level 4 or 7 and to pay . They were friendly , but not attentive at all. We will probably make this a take out option.

We've been dining here for years, and we can say without hesitation that the food and service is consistently great. Upon arriving on a Saturday night, we were greeted warmly and seated immediately. This restaurant has a huge interior and can handle large groups of diners with ease. Tonight the restaurant was fairly busy but not overly crowded. The noise level in this large restaurant is low, you can definitely carry a conversation nicely. The menu is extensive and if you are not familiar with Himalayan, Nepalese or Indian cuisine there are plenty of pictures in the back of the menu to help guide your decisions. When ordering your entrées, for most dishes, you will be asked for your "heat level" on a scale of 1 to 10. We order a heat level of 5 which is more on the spicy side, so if you like your dishes mild, I recommend to choose a spice level below 3. Portion size is ample compared to most restaurants, and the pricing is quite fair as you will see by what we purchased and our final bill. This evening we were a dining party of 3. All diners will be served a cup of their yummy delicious lentil soup with their meals. Tonight we ordered Curry Chicken, Tikka Masala Chicken, Tandori Lamb Chops, and 2 orders of Garlic Cilantro Naan (our favorite). Our entrées came with either yellow or white rice or plain Naan. The meal is served "family-style" so everyone can choose what they would like to try. Since we were placing 2 orders of the Cilantro Garlic Naan (our favorite) we all chose a rice as a side. The chicken in both the Curry and Tikka Masala was very tender and the flavor of both dishes was exceptional! The Tandori Lamb (my husband's favorite) was tender and moist with the perfect amount of seasonings served on a bed of roasted Tandori oven vegetables. The Naan is fluffy, light with a hint of char from the Tandori oven. We all scored each dish a 5 tonight. I have only spoke of the food, but the service by the waitstaff at Himalayan is at another level! They are all very attentive to each customer needs without being invasive... we were never really waiting for our meals to be served, beverages to be refilled or plates to be removed. They are all kind and joyful. If you want a lovely dining experience with great food we highly recommend Himalayan Cuisine Restaurant... this should be the standard of what going out for dinner looks like. Total meal cost was under $80. And we still took boxes of leftovers home.

One of the best authentic indian Restaurants i've had in town! They give you complementary lentil soup which was so delicious!! They also give you the option of rice or naan with your curry dishes (most places don't do that) and the servers are very prompt and friendly!! This restaurant definitely gives off a homestyle indian cuisine vibe and I love it!! I have been only coming here since i've tried it Not to mention their prices are reasonable for the big portions they give you!!! Highly recommend getting the mango lassi (Not pictured) my husband and I also got the mixed tandoori which came out sizzling and was sooo tasty! The lamb biryani was okay, I wished the meat was a little more tender but it was still flavorful. The butter chicken or chicken makhnee was my absolute fav! If you like spicy I recommend 7-8 spice level. Last, the garlic naan came out fresh and soft, it was perfect!

Been here several times but brought my best friend here for her first time. First thing they brought was the lentil soup snd it was good. The servers were friendly and the atmosphere was nice with all the pictures and decorations. Ordered the butter chicken which is her favorite and I ordered the chicken tikka masala and the mixed tandoori grill with garlic cheese naan bread and rice . Would have ordered spicy but my b can't handle spice . The smell of the mixed tandoori was amazing and both chicken dishes were tasty. I highly recommend this place.

Food was amazing! We had the chicken tikka, butter chicken, yellow and white rice, and the garlic naan. They also gave us daal soup as an appetizer. Everything was a 10/10! Service was also great, everyone was very nice and on top of everything. The decor and lighting gave a nice ambience to this restaurant. I'll definitely be back! :) Side note, my friend and I were talking and hanging out and didn't even realize the time or that they were closing, and they were so kind not even rushing us out of there, but we ended up just realizing they were closing so got up anyways and cashed out. 5

My brother loves this place so we decided to take my mom here for her birthday dinner. I've seen this place for years since I grew up in the area but never tried Nepal food before. It's very similar to Indian food, which I'm not a fan of but I loved everything that I tried here. Garlic naan was cheesy and delicious, chicken dumplings were meaty (love the sauce it came with), shrimp biryani was delish with that yogurt sauce, chicken curry was flavorful, and butter roti dish as well. I can see why it's been here for years.

The Chicken Tikka Masala looks small in all pictures. Is that the same $19.00 for that tiny portion or is it deceptively small looking?

its like a bowl of cereal, but theres enough food to fill you up once you have it with the naan bread and/or rice. You could eat the Chicken Tikki Masala on its own, but it tastes a lot better with some rice/bread.

    Is there a lunch buffet?

No, but they have about a dozen options for mix-and-match lunch specials.

Do you use nuts in any of your dishes? My fiancé is allergic

A lot of dishes in S. Asian cuisine use nuts. The richer the dish, the more likely it is to have nuts, it often (along with onions and heavy cream) helps provide the thickness of some gravies. Proceed with caution.

Will you ever bring back your lunch specials? They were the best in town!

Some things have changed. The chai was excellent which I ordered while I waited. Everything smelled so good on the way home in the car. When we got home and had the food, the flavors were nice, but a few things were not so good. I will attribute it with costs of a small business trying to stay alive in this economy. Because the differences I noticed were cost related. First of all the baingan bharta should be called baingan peas because it was a sea of green peas. And I do not like peas. It is not even possible to get a bite without peas or to separate them out, it is chock full of peas. I didn't even see any eggplant pieces in there. Peas are way cheaper than eggplant. Secondly the kashmiri naan which hubby and I love - and have been ordering for years was different. We used to go there just for the Kashmir naan. But this time it was nothing special. It was thin with less filling and with more coconut (cheaper) than the last time we ordered it. There were no cherries that I could tell which used to be the main flavor with some nuts. The naan itself was thin. I was craving the good thick pillowy Indian bread stuffed full of deliciousness. But all I could taste was stale naan. I know that French almond croissants are traditionally made by filling the day old croissants with almond paste. And they are delicious. Maybe that's how kashmiri naan is made. But this naan just tasted stale. So I was disappointed. The other disappointment came with the to-go packaging. Everything was tightly wrapped in plastic wrap, however still something leaked through one of the brown paper bags making it tear through. Secondly when I opened the plastic container of the korma it squirted all over me and stained my ivory sweater. So I was already bummed by that experience even before opening the peas bharta. It appears the restaurant had rebranded itself as Indian Punjabi Cuisine and has a new Panjabi teddy bear logo. So I'm thinking that perhaps the ownership has changed hands. I didn't see the older Indian lady owner who is usually there during the lunchtime. Oh, they have the butter chicken on the backside of the menu with three other house specialties and I didn't see it until after I had placed the order -or I would have ordered that instead of the chicken tiki masala for my dad. We haven't had the desserts yet, but I trust they'll be fine. Anyway don't take my word for it. Go check it out for yourself.

Tucked inside this plaza, two doors near the back on the east end, nestled between a Chinese restaurant and another establishment, you'll find Taste of Himalayas in El Cajon. I was pleasantly surprised to see this location pop up since I'm only familiar with the other locations. Apparently they have other locations which I have been to, but I never knew that this one was back here. I initially thought that maybe they had changed their locations which definitely could've happened being that I have not eaten here in about two years. All in all Definitely a blessing for me. I was craving comfort food--something semi-healthy but still felt like a warm hug, especially since I haven't been feeling my best this week. I ordered the chicken tikka masala with basmati rice. Had I dined in, I would've been able to enjoy their lentil soup, which I barely missed by about two minutes. No big deal, though--I was more than ready to head home and enjoy my food in the comfort of my couch. The woman who took my order was very friendly, welcoming, and genuinely helpful with the menu. I also added garlic cilantro naan, which really completed the meal. My food was prepared promptly, which I appreciated. One thing I did notice: the chicken looked red, which made me wonder if tandoori chicken was chopped up and added to the tikka masala. I'm not used to seeing that, but typically the masala sauce covers everything, so it stood out a bit. Either way, the flavor was good. Some pieces were slightly dry, but a few were tender and juicy--those were the winners. The spice level was a 2, which was perfect for me. I needed something to open up my sinuses since my respiratory system has been all out of whack, and this did the trick without being overwhelmingly hot. The naan was cooked fresh to order, and the basmati rice was cooked perfectly. Overall, I'd definitely come back to this location and explore more of the menu. Hopefully next time I'll be feeling better so I can dine in and really catch the full vibe.
