SciEats in the College area near SDSU is a non-profit eatery based on a combination of science and culinary concepts. It replaced a previous business that specialized in samosas. The interior decor of the suite was minimal with posters of different items and not much else. The seating capacity was sufficient for about 50 customers. The menu featured a fusion of Mediterranean and Asian Indian cuisines across three different pages. I ordered the Shakshuka, Chicken Lollipops, and a Mango Lassi for my meal. The first item was listed on the Brunch menu, however the kitchen was able to accommodate the request during my mid-afternoon visit. Two poached eggs were served on top of a spicy tomato and bell pepper sauce with garlic and cumin. A couple of pieces of toast were provided on the side to help sop up the savory sauce. For the $8.99 price, the portion size was a great value. The mango drink blended with house made yogurt was next brought to my table. It cost only $2.25, but the cup wasn't filled to the top. The sweetness was also not up to the standard that I have tasted elsewhere. Three spicy marinated chicken drumettes were baked and served with a cup of tamarind and a cup of red pepper sauce. The item took quite a long time to be prepared which I thought was unusual. A fourth drumette would have been reasonable for the price. Perhaps due to the wait for the chicken lollipops, a set of Russian Pancakes were given to me compliments of the house. Two thin crepes comprised of flour and milk whey were folded into a triangular shape. A cup of blueberry compote was provided for dipping. This was a nice way to finish my lunch with a dessert-like product that wasn't too sweet. While there were ups and downs, I still rounded my rating of SciEats to a four star level.

SciEats, a union between science and food, is all about affordable nutritional meals. I'm a foodie with a Biology background who's down with its mission...1. serve healthy science inspired food...2. educate "We are what we eat"...3. reinvest in the community. The owner and workers are very friendly creating a welcoming atmosphere. I can tell they're genuinely passionate about what they do. I was blown away by the fresh, flavorful dishes...sooo deliciously authentic. I'm super glad I found out about the hidden gem through the internet and can't wait to go back to support this nonprofit restaurant. I had a wonderful opportunity to celebrate India's Independence Day with classic street food at the same time learning about Indian culture while unwinding on National Relaxation Day. I highly recommend the Yelp Community to check it out - for amazing food and for an awesome cause!

Go for the food and then go back because of the cause... It was my first time having Khaman, and I will be getting it again. The chickpea flour snack is tasty and has a nice texture that you'd never even know that it was gluten free. Grounded in a mission to make healthy food available to everyone, SciEats has sliding scale pricing that allows others to pay it forward to those in need and those who need help to get what they need. The couple who own and operate SciEats is friendly and passionate about their food. Expect a delay, because it will take more than a minute, but that is because they are making it with love.

I've been here 3 times now and it's always amazing! They have so many options for vegans and vegetarians that are super delicious. The owners are super accommodating and care a lot about providing nutritional meals for the food insecure. Tell your friends and family about this place so that they can feed more people throughout san diego :) Thank you so much for the amazing care you put into your work Scieats! *pictures of the menu and donation links to help their outreach program

Delicious menu at great prices! Also sliding scale for those that can't afford to pay the listed prices (by application)

One of the owners Taher, wife Maria and son make you feel at home. SciEats is taking on preventable diseases with sustainable, home cooked, healthy and delicious meals served with a smile. I happened to try this place because of an application on my phone, and I'm so glad that I did. The caramelized lemonade was amazing and dishes were delightful. Everything is made with love and intent to nourish a community. Really great selfless stuff going on here--give them a try!

Found them on the too good to go app and the food was delicious. They then let me know they were a nonprofit that was helping the community. So not only were the prices low, the food delicious, but they're also doing so much good for the community. Highly recommend.

Chicken and rice. With a beet salad and tahini sauce. And a tea.

Amazing food. Great customer service. Clearly food made with love and intent. Dishes that are hearty and filling, without a sluggish or gross effect afterwards. "Healthy" but tasty meals that really do feel nourishing! I had the pleasure to speak to the owner, and they have a great mission statement and vision for our community. If you have time, please support! This place deserves love.

I told my friend the food was worth the wait. After an hour we got sat at the bar and our first server was friendly. There was a transition of servers (not sure if he left for the day or went on lunch) and the new server would check on everyone at the bar except us. My water remained empty for most of the meal. The bartenders in front of us were clearly having a conversation and I didn't want to interrupt. My friend claimed her Irish coffee was sour? And didn't realize cheese came on a side of eggs (she should've checked when she ordered but the server never clarified either). We weren't checked on during the meal until the bill came and by then we just wanted to leave. I ordered the fluffy pancakes and found an egg shell inside. The cracking of eggshells in my mouth made me loose my appetite. We paid (still tipped of course) and left. It was great the first time and mediocre the second time. I prefer consistently in service, especially if I'm waiting an hour to be seated.

We had spent most of the day around Bankers Hill and decided to grab an early dinner at Books & Records. Getting reservations was easy, but from the moment we walked in, the ambiance alone already had us sold. The place was still pretty quiet when we arrived, and to our surprise it was happy hour, so naturally we ordered a bunch of items off the menu along with drinks. Everything was ridiculously good. Not one miss. What really stood out though was the attention to detail. The host brought us a complimentary glass of champagne after hearing we were celebrating our anniversary. Small gesture, big impact. Stuff like that matters. As the night went on, the restaurant filled up, live music started playing, and the whole atmosphere just came alive. Our waiter never rushed us once, which made the experience feel even more intentional and relaxed. We were able to actually enjoy the moment instead of feeling pushed through dinner service. Good food is one thing. Great hospitality is another. This place gave us both. Next time we're in San Diego, we're absolutely making it a point to come back. Lovely spot. Lovely experience.

Dennise seated us and was so kind, she even shared a few of her favorite menu items since it was our first visit. Our server Anelle was great as well. She was friendly, attentive, and helped us pick some really good dishes. We tried the Tacos Dorados de Papa, El Sampler de la Abuela, and La Bomba, and for appetizers the Burrito de Machaca con Frijoles Puercos and the sweet corn tamal (which ended up being my favorite). Cramped and loud, but nicely decorated and serving solid authentic meals. Mexican Latte-9/10: Pretty straightforward. A solid, nostalgic spiced coffee. Mazapan Latte-10/10: A novelty menu item, both nostalgic and tasty. With a sweetened condensed milk rim and mazapan dust, this sweet coffee is a must order. Chilaquiles-10/10: Cocina 35 knows how to throw down the best Mexican breakfast item: the chilaquiles. The Verde was good but didn't pack much heat. The Salsa Secreta was our favorite; a creamy 3-chile salsa with an artichoke flavor, this one packs an enjoyable amount of heat. The Chipotle was another yummy and creamy option, making your nose run but still very enjoyable. Frijoles Puercos-7/10: They were pretty standard. I've definitely had better. They served their purpose as a good side. Concha Rellena-7.5/10: Another creative menu item. Whipped cream and whole strawberries sandwiched between two french toast-style concha halves and drenched in cajeta. It was sweet and warm, but would've been more enjoyable with fresher and/or sliced strawberries. Fun to order, but a regular concha is better suited for enjoying with your coffee. Service-6/10: Again, Cocina 35 gets packed, so service isn't as attentive. Our party had to order and wait for water, ask for refills, call the server over for more orders and again for the bill, and wouldn't speak to us in Spanish. I witnessed other tables be spoken to in Spanish, but upon ordering I'd only be responded to in English. I know I'm a white Mexican, but native tongue is nice when I make it clear I'd like to order in Spanish. Overall, a fun spot with solid menu items. The samplers are pricey but probably the best bang for your buck. They do the classics very well, and are very much worth your visit!

So I am glad we decided to share the biscuits and gravy but let me run down each thing. Bloody Mary Flight: Honestly every single one was amazing. My favorite was definitely the pickle Mary! "Over medium" eggs came barely cooked, still had clear egg gel floating around. The table next to us had the same issue. The fried chicken, which is beautiful looking, was strangely flavorless. Another table was also talking about this issue. Bacon was way overcooked as well. I also really dislike when food timing for a table is way off. I rather it stay in the kitchen under a heat lamp and come together rather that spend 5 minutes staring at my food being polite. So, for a fun "wow that's a ton of food" experience this is it. But I much prefer quality ingredients and attention to detail and flavor over unfinishable portions at a premium price point ($100 after tip for 2 ppl).
