I'm a regular customer at La Moon Restaurant & Take Away. I've been to many Thai restaurants all over including Switzerland, Japan and Mexico. I'm a retired flight attendant that loves curries. I have found that La Moon Thai Eatery has some of the best food. It is located in such an unassuming location off El Cajon Blvd that it is easily missed. They use the freshest ingredients, I usually order my food with lots of vegetables & chicken which consistently taste great. Its a family owned business and you can tell that they really care for their customers. Beverages include Asian beers, a decent wine selection. Iced Thai tea, Thai coffee and iced green tea are also offered. Take it from a world traveler they have great food served in a rather small but friendly dining establishment. Not a fancy place but the food and service are consistent, the food is fresh & flavorful. This to me is the #1 "gold standard" for Thai food in the Western World. read more

Tried for the first. Was decently ok for me. The pad see ew was just good. Flavor was kind of flat (needed more sauce I think) but noodles were cooked perfectly and had good reheat value. Did not enjoy the panang curry. I cannot pinpoint what I didn't like, maybe too herby? The spice level was good though. read more

Really though, everything is good, great service, and every time it's consistent, flavorful, and just hits right. This is the spot I compare all other Thai places to. read more

First time visiting. We stopped by 90 minutes before they closed. The guy working the counter and waiting tables was super pleasant. We ordered half portion sizes of the cheesy wontons and veggie egg rolls. They were good. We also got the shrimp pad thai (spice level 8). It had authentic flavors, and the perfect amount of spiciness. The restaurant was casual. Nothing fancy. There were way more people picking up orders to go than dining in. I'm so glad I found this Thai place right next to my apartment because they have some of the most delicious noodles ever! I always get take out and the service is always quick and friendly. The inside is also good for dining in, but since I'm right next door and Thai food is always good as takeout I just order in. Definitely get the pad thai and if you like spicy get it levels 5-7 ! I needed to order food for my family of four and my parents, and nothing sounded good. The parents wanted white people food, the four of us wanted anything but so the husband suggested passing La Moon off as "Chinese food" for my family. I tried to choose the most Chinese dishes I could so we could eat Thai food for dinner. (My parents usually eat at a Chinese restaurant in deepest El Cajon that's full of old people. The one time I ate there I spotted a MAGA hat.) The employee at La Moon was really nice on the phone, and had me choose a heat level from 1-10. From best to worst: Ka Pao - Ground chicken with onions, green peppers, basil, and a fried egg. (Good flavor.) Pad See Ew - Nice thick noodles. (One of the better renditions I've had.) Eggplant with Tofu - Got it spice level five but could go spicier. (Fine but I've had better.) Broccoli Beef - (Nothing special.) Orange Chicken - (Some pieces tough. Generally dry and chewy. I like it more when the batter is crispier.) Overall quite good. We've ordered food from here twice. read more

Walked in to a strangely arranged completely silent dining area. Approached the cashier and he told us he would "not be able to walk back and forth" so we would have to stand to order at the counter then wait for takeout boxes? Even if we wanted to dine-in. It was just odd so we left. read more

Cute Thai place off of El Cajon. It's nestled in the same plaza as Rise, Cheba Hut, and some fitness centers, so parking can be tough, but it's open after 8pm and worth checking out for a nice dinner. Service was only one person on a Friday night, but they were attentive and our food arrived quickly. Food- Favorites are the tamarind wings, tom yum with shrimp, and pad thai. The spice level is from 1-10 so we chose 5, but as someone who doesn't really do well with thai spices, could have gotten a 7-8. I came upon this restaurant by accident many years ago, the location is in a tiny shopping center It is very simple inside, but the food is incredible. Every dish I've tried is amazing. The Panang Curry with steamed fish is so flavorful and savory. I order their Pad See Ew Noodles with beef and Pad Thai with chicken. Both are so distinctly flavorful...the benefit of having a big family is we get two noodle dishes because it's hard to choose. The mango sticky rice is the best. It gets very busy during lunchtime but well worth the wait, but I f time is a constraint. I recommend ordering Ahead for pick up. read more

I just visited this Thai food place. I have not had Thai food in San Diego yet. This had to be the best Thai food I've ever had. I am originally from New York so I know good Thai food and this is very good affordable Thai food. I had Pad Thai with Tofu and cream cheese wontons. I really enjoyed the pad Thai. They let us customize the spice level (on a scale of 1-10) and they nailed my specifications. The portion size was very large and I had leftovers for lunch the next day. So, not only did La Moon rescue me from the cafeteria once, but twice! Was a little skeptical at first because the doors were closed when we got there as they open at 4 and it was 4:10, but it turned out to be great. It's tucked away located in a small strip mall. We tried a variety of dishes and everything was fresh and flavorful. The only thing that I wish had more kick of flavor was the papaya salad. The yellow curry was really good. Pretty good Thai food! Ordered the Tom Kha soup with chicken; not a thick soup but very flavorful. Really enjoyed the little white, thin mushrooms in it. I also had the Pad Thai with chicken. I liked the taste.. The noodles were not too starchy and the sauce was nice. Their Thai Iced-tea was delicious, not too sweet, and very creamy; Yum! It is sometimes hard to know if they mean hot like average American hot, or hot like Thai hot, and this place means Thai hot! Everything here is great, and at a good price too. Whenever I am in the College Area, I am definitely getting my Thai fix at La Moon. I've had their chicken satay, pad thai, pad see ew, and spicy noodle (drunken noodles), as well as their thai tea. You can never go wrong with their food and they make it right on the spot as I can feel the steamy food come up when I open up my food when I take it to-go. I have even taken my friends here and they rave about how tasty it is! The flavors that are embedded into their food is just unreal. I am slurping down my meal. The service is amazing and they are so friendly and easygoing, I have never had a problem with them. They have some indoor seating but it is a little warm but seems very welcoming. read more

Food was decent, service poor. I went at lunch on a Friday and there was only 1 other person. The one and only host/waiter brought me my table setting which I watched him put together in a little basket. It was very clearly dirty with the spoon streaked with green oily sauce. He was apologetic and brought me another. When my food arrived I was slightly disgusted already by his lack of awareness and cleanliness but my pad se ew was tasty. My potsticker was cold inside so asked for another. He brought it packed up with a to go box and the bill for me instead of ready to eat. I saw the chef pop her head out of the door and mouth "sorry" to me. Then I couldn't find anyone to give me a to go cup for the majority of my Thai tea left. This place is absolutely delicious after a long tiring day and you just want to get take out. They do offer vegan dishes! Just make sure to let them know you want it vegan as they have a special vegan sauce :) next time I'll definitely ask for extra tofu though. read more

I dig this place. Been coming for a while now and they changed names or owners once. Quality is still great. It's usually pretty slow but don't let that fool you. I like the quality of the ingredients and everything I have ordered has been great. To be fair I usually only order a few different items but they all have been great. Come give this spot a try. I always drove past this restaurant and thought to try it. Today I did, and I now know what i've been missing out on!! I got the pad thai spicy with no peanuts, and the 3 piece eggrolls.
