This is the initial dialogue via Yelp messenge ME: Hello I would like to find a regular sport masseuse in Seattle. I have lived here for years but am rather selective with who works on me because I am fortunate to have experienced many LMTs. What are your typical appointment times and rates? Jerri: Did you not check out my website? The answers to those questions are there. My massage days are Thursdays through Sundays. I only have 3 slots each of those days. Thursdays and Fridays the slots are typically 3pm, 4:30pm and 6pm. Saturdays and Sundays the slots are 11am, 1pm and 3pm. I tweak those times as necessary to keep the 3 appointments each day from having large gaps between them. I have several regulars with standing appointments, so some of those slots are for them. My rate is $100/hour. I should have known by the rude response that Jerri doesn't give two shits about professionalism. I mistakenly made an appointment and it was pretty hellish from the getgo and here is why: 1. She has you sign a contract acknowledging her style is extremely aggressive and atypically deep. OK that's why I am here so an agreement form seems a little silly. 2. The music was WAY too loud and was a garbage 90's rock playlist, mmm Matchbox20 how relaxing. I'm sorry but if you're going to play your own music always ask your client if it's ok with them. I don't need native american flute playing but just ask your client who is paying you top dollar out of pocket what they prefer. 3. The massage itself was sub-par. There is sports massage with aggression and purpose and style and anatomical understanding, but THIS... This was an extremely lazy and very aggressive massage. With that much pressure (that I wanted) you need to be technically accurate and deliberate. Jerri was frantically grinding and manipulating randomly and without those nice long pressure releases. I have had massages in many states and many countries since I was 10 years old. I have an incredibly high pain threshold and am only ever interested in true sports massage. However, overall, her style was "I'm going to push as hard as I can and just do a careless general sweep of some muscle groups." I was sweating because there was no rest. No accuracy or deliberate acupressure. Typically when an LMT finds an issue they carefully spend time slowly working the target area so that you can slowly relax into the deep deep pressure. Without this static pressure your muscles are unable to allow entry into the malleable tissue. I'm sorry but not only can you damage muscle fascia by doing this but you also make them contract due to frivolous over stimulation of the nerves. Also there is no waiting room or lobby of any kind so don't show up early if the weather is unfavorable. So that's what 80% of the year? read more

Excellent and very invigorating deep tissue sports massage that Jerri offers here. I am quite used to getting massages (the good ones come by cheap and quality back home in Thailand) and much prefer strong, deep tissue massages than relaxing, aromatic ones. I went with Jerri for a 2 hour deep tissue massage...and oh boy, that was a good choice. The level of depth and strength that Jerri worked made the top few massages I have gotten. The massage itself wasn't so relaxing as she definitely worked on you. In my case, I found myself screaming, yelling and cursing many times when she tried to get those stubborn knots out of my shoulders, back and legs. What was surprising was there were so many places I had no idea had knots before...until she slowly inched her elbows and thumbs close to them. It was painful at times but not a bad, sharp pain kind of way at all. In fact, the pain was deep and more dull from the stretches the tissues deep down my skin was getting. My back, shoulders and necu were definitely sore but felt a million lighter immediately after the massage. The legs got some work out too but my pain there wasn't as bad as my upper body. The next day, I felt even better on my back..it felt very light and loose. Good news is..even though the massage was tough and so super strong that parts of my body felt so sore..there was not a single bruise (and rightfully there shouldn't be if they know what they are doing!!) If you are into relaxing, aromatic, peaceful rhythmic spa places, aren't into deep tissue or used to very strong pressure, I'd advise you to steer clear from booking. If you had parts of the body, chronic aches that have been building up and are up to withstand the deep pain of kneading out those knots, definitely book one with Jerri! To call it a massage may be slightly misleading. With that said, it was amazing! She found and worked on knots I didn't know existed. Heed the warnings of others though, she is strong and those elbows and knuckles of hers are a Godsend for people that have a back riddled of knots from sitting at a computer for decades. OK guys, so I take massage very seriously. I believe it is critical to maintaining healthy muscles and joints if you are athletic. I am more muscular than average from a history of powerlifting, martial arts, sprinting, etc. Most massage claiming to be deep tissue just leaves me disappointed. Actual depth and technique is required if dense muscles are to be treated. I was never interested in simply being petted, which seems to be what most massage professionals do for a living. Before meeting Jerri, I never went to a massage therapist more than a handful of times. I am now a regular client. Here is why: Jerri works both deeply and intelligently. She is unusually strong, persistent and systematic and goes deep on all muscles and tendon insertion and origin. I originally came to her with numbness in my lower back from what my docs claimed was a sciatica from a year-old martial arts sparring injury. I had pain in the sacroiliac area and numbness in my lower back. Jerri has worked the piroformis in a way that I never thought possible, and the symptoms have finally abated. In general, I feel more supple and mobile, and have been more injury free than at other times in my life, which I attribute to regular massage with Jerri. Finally, Jerri clearly truly cares about her work. I do believe she is gifted with her hands and has unusual kinesthetic awareness.
