There's holes in the doors, weather strips to the front door missing with gaps big enough for mice! The layout is so bazaar, line when your 12 and have a sleep over and push everything together to build a fort! They say they renovated the whole place, but these rooms have clearly remained unchanged for decades. The beds themselves feel like blocks with basic training sheets and blankets. If you did not serve and therefore are unaware of how that feels...think dusty sandpaper. We are only here for two nights or I would dip and stay at literally any other motel. My favorite part was when we checked in and the "concierge" pleaded to us to just not break the furniture...that's not a good sign! This hotel is for you if plan to get wasted and use the room to crash...but my guess is it's a safe bet to leave the blacklights off!

My best friend and I called this place on a roadtrip because we found it on google and thought it was worth a shot and Chris the owner answered and was so kind and thoughtful that we detoured and stopped to meet him there in the middle of winter. We chose this place because of him and the fabulous, well kept property. We talked with Chris and his wife several times prior to our August wedding and they were patient with our planning process and able to accommodate all of our requests. We cannot thank them enough for the use of the clubhouse and pool! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm hospitality and exceptional service that made our stay truly unforgettable.  Chris and his wife Angie, the staff and property were more than we could have dreamed up! Came for the beach since I was told it was nicer than Mirror Lake State Park's beach. They were…read moresimilar, but Castle Rock's was slightly larger, and I'm told it has a nicer bottom, not as mucky as Mirror Lake. I wouldn't know for sure, though, since I didn't go in the water. I'm not a beach person, but my friends are and I wanted to be with them. I liked laying out on under the shady trees near the beach and watching the activities like a family group dragging out giant float after giant float (a camel, a rocker, a unicorn, a shark, etc.). They got them in the water, and then they promptly tipped them over whenever anyone in the family got on top of one. There were some friendly dogs there, but they weren't allowed on the beach, so one sadly got tied to a stake in the grass and had to watch their family have all the fun from a distance. Another cute 2-year old dog cried anytime anyone came near it, you could tell it wanted to play, but it's owner was an elderly gentleman who just wanted to sit in a chair and look at stuff (kind of like me). Maybe it's just me, but I would never bring my pet anywhere fun on vacation and then ignore it for hours. Anyway, it's a very crowded place on a beautiful summer day and if you like crowds and people-watching, this is the place for you. Lots and lots of people on the water boating, paddle boarding, swimming, etc. An ice cream truck came around a couple of times, there was volleyball nearby. My friends and I brought our bocce set and played a round. Nice mid-day outing.

Mike, the manager, was able to accommodate all our requests, and the lake is to die for. The place is only 5 min from the strip, but it is so quiet and peaceful, you'd think you were in the wilderness, miles away from civilization. I like the location, we were in cabin 23 and it was right next to the beach, and close to the docks and the playground. The cabin was clean, but old and dated and had a mustiness to it. The beds were not very comfortable. The deck was great and honestly, we spent the majority of the time there. The resort is close to everything - but never felt that way. It is quiet and serene. Even the resort itself didn't feel crowed even though it was pretty full. The ground is covered by soft pine needles that are way better than grass and I think help keep the bugs away. And I should say - I normally attract mosquitoes from three states around. In the time it takes me to water flowers at home, I can have 3-5 bites. I came home from 4 days at Island Pointe without a bite. HUGE!! I also loved the shadiness of the area. I hate sun and it was easy to avoid it (it was easy to get it too - on the beach and the pool, for those that like sun). The staff is super helpful and respectful. They take a lot of pride in the resort. Honestly, I think that my cabin at least would have made this a 5-star review but the fact that my husband slept with a t-shirt wrapped around his pillow case, means that the cabin could be brought more up to date. The room itself was a decent size. The beds were comfortable and had a microwave and mini fridge. The tv was smaller and the room smelled of cleaner yet felt dirty. They definitely need to do some updating. We chose the balcony lake view One of the biggest drawbacks of the room was the inability to make it dark. There was a super bright light right outside our window that illuminated our whole room mainly because the balcony door only has thin blinds covering the window. It made for not the best nights sleep. I appreciated the complimentary tickets to the wildlife zoo!
