PLEASE READ EDIT!! I…read moreunfortunately cannot recommend this place for transgender individuals looking for alternative style affirming haircuts. I am a pre-transition trans masculine guy, and I come off very feminine at first glance because of that. You would assume I am a cis woman. I have been wanting a particularly masculine wolf cut like these first two example photos for a long long time. While scheduling my appointment, I specifically asked for a stylist who specializes in masculine/men's haircuts. My hair was probably an inch to two inches below my shoulders before the appointment, flat with no layers after I had been growing it out from a near buzzed look from 2024. My stylist today was Julia, who was overall very sweet and accepting when I communicated my transmasc identity to her, but regardless was still very tentative with taking off any significant amount of length during my cut. I've been growing out my hair to a particular length for specifically a wolf cut in order to have enough for a stylist to work with, but it's almost as if the reference photos I provided were almost entirely ignored. She took one glance at them and didn't request to look at them again for the entire appointment. Julia worked with me when the first styling she completed had me close to tears from coming out looking like a layered bob with a blowout. When the first look didn't come out quite right, she apologized for misunderstanding what I wanted and I apologized for supposedly miscommunicating (despite having provided reference photos.) I expressed my desire for more length in the back and shorter in the front with a lot of layering, to which she brought up something more like a shag (which unfortunately I don't know the difference too well between a shag, a mullet or wolf cut in the salon world) so I just let her finish the cut. I am very poor with confrontation and had already tried to push the cut more towards what I wanted but honestly after the initial length she took off there was just less and less to work with to achieve what I originally came in for. Ultimately it still came out looking okay but very much not what I had asked for and while I can live with it I feel like I just wasted $80 and both her and my time. It also looks very feminine which granted is partly because I haven't started my transition yet but it certainly doesn't help the dysphoria much at all. I suppose I just wish she had disclosed that maybe she didn't have the skills necessary to achieve the cut I wanted or understood my hair goals as well as I would have hoped. Regardless she tried her best and I still tipped. I'd recommend other trans folks just go see a trans hairdresser or someone who specializes in alternative hair cuts. Maybe I was just thinking too outside the box for a more mainstream style salon like Tease. Great place for cis feminine haircuts, styles and services, not so much for the more niche queer styles and nonconforming individuals. Update: Tease's manager Krystal reached out to me just now to apologize and issued a refund for my haircut, so I am adjusting this review to reflect my appreciation for their professionalism and commitment to customer service.
