Hair styling for a wedding was OK, but there are some serious issues with the front desk staff. I accepted that I needed to pay $50 when I booked the appointment and was told that the total cost would be $60. After receiving service, the front desk told me I owed $85. I needed to remind them that I already paid $50 and informed her that I was told that it would cost $60 total. She replied that the starting cost for wedding hairstyles was $65, totally contradicting what I was originally told when I booked the appointment. I will not be back. read more

Oh my goodness I haven't been to Studio 890 for over 10 years! Growing up in Elm Grove, this salon was my place for hair cuts from age 4+. I literally have memories of falling asleep in the salon chair as Tracie would blow dry my hair as a kid. Anywayyyy, since I now live downtown, I don't often make may way back to the suburbs. However, my extremely long hair was beginning to drive me nuts and I had to chop it asap. My usual hair stylist was booked so I figured hey, it's about time I go see Tracie again! The salon is just as I remember it; large with many mirrors, products everywhere, fun spunky stylists, and kind employees. I sat in the chair, let her know I wanted a good six-inches cut, all of it thined out and added layers. Taadaa, it was exactly what I wanted. Tracie is such a sweetheart and was so much fun to catch up with. I'll have to pop back in every once in awhile :) read more

The first impression we got at this salon was from the reception desk. It was not pleasant. I felt that we were an inconvenience, interrupting their conversation. We did not receive a smile or a welcome at all just a "what's the name". About 20 minutes later I asked for the restroom to an eye roll, a finger point , and "it's just around the corner". The stylist did not listen to my daughter when she described what she wanted, even after seeing a photo. She sat her in a chair, took her hair in handfuls and chopped it to her chin, didn't even wash it first. I gave 2 stars because my daughter did like it when she was done. Not as much as if she had been heard, but she left with a smile. I'm glad she was happy with it but we won't be back. read more

As a mom with three boys under 5, I don't have a ton of time to spend getting glamorous every day. I need a hair style that involves 10-15 minutes of maintenance and that's it. My wonderful stylist (Emily) was able to make that happen! I found Emily using the website tool to match to a stylist. The Salon itself came at my husband's recommendation, as he had a talented friend work there some years ago. This was all very helpful since I didn't really know where to start. The receptionist reassured me that everyone was highly trained, so I figured it would be hard to go wrong and booked an appointment easily over the phone. I should say, I entered the salon still emotionally recovering from a criminally bad haircut. I would describe it as Bon Jovi on his worst hair day. I had lots of haphazard layers that were impossible to hide or style in any capacity. I tried to let them grow a little before finding a fix, but even two months out, there was a good 2-3" discrepancy between my hair length on the left side layers. In short, it was BAD and I shed a few tears after that one. Emily was confident she could make my hair much more manageable. Before we started chopping, she talked extensively about where we saw the cut going. She shampooed me up and got to it! After an initial round of cutting, we revised our plan for something a little shorter. Then, we explored some great blow out techniques I'd never tried and experimented with some creams and sprays. An hour later, I felt like a new woman! This cut is a serious miracle. It also was not nearly as pricy as I had imagined. I had my first haircut with Claire C today and had a great experience! My first impression of the salon was very positive. It's on the second level; you enter from a door off the courtyard. The salon is full of windows and has great natural light. Everything is very clean and COVID protocols are enforced. Claire was very friendly and warm. We discussed my cut (a trim with blended long layers) to confirm we were on the same page. She washed my hair, which included an excellent (and good amount of time!) head massage. We had a very pleasant conversation (we're both engaged so it was about wedding planning!) during the cut. She styled it nicely with curls at the end. The whole process took about an hour and her haircut rate as of February 2021 is $35. (Remember the tip!) I already booked my second cut with her for May! 5 stars for Claire C. read more

May 2017: I have been a LONG time customer of Studio 890. I used to go to the Brookfield location then switched to the Elm Grove location. I asked for a balayage, which I have had done before and loved. I asked to go a little more blonde and showed her pics that were more cool tones. When she finished I was more ombré, with dark top and extremely blonde ends. She's also used a warm tone. I told her I was hoping for more of a blended look and thought more blonde toward the top would help. She tried to redo it. Now I look like I had my hair colored blonde three months ago and it has grown out. I have a horrible line of color. I need to get it fixed quickly because I have a family event in the next 24 hours but they can't get me in to fix it. Sorry, but you lost this long-time loyal customer. Now I have to go somewhere else and pay even more to get it fixed. Horrible. read more

I came in for a cut and color which turned out to be a disappointing experience. Stylist didn't communicate pricing for additional hair color during the consultation or actual appointment and I had a surprise charge when paying my bill. She also didn't listen to how I wanted my hair colored. The salon was nice enough to accommodate me and give me additional highlights, however, the highlights do not fit with the balayage style that is in my hair. New customer. Won't return. read more

I came here as part of an 8-woman bridal party plus bride and moms, which basically meant we took over the entire place, complete with our own buffet picnic we toted along... and Studio 890 was GREAT! I hardly ever write reviews, but I couldn't pass up the chance to shower love on my hair stylist. Mallory is a HAIR GENIUS. She invested some serious time in my superlong hair, and gave me the most amazing and beautiful updo I've ever received. I showed her a picture that I had on my phone of a style I loved for about 15 seconds, and she perfectly replicated it on my head-- I LOVED IT, and I LOVED HER-- sweet and lovely and patient and great to work with, which worked out really well since she spent an hour and a half on my hair. On the recommendation from the receptionist I made an appointment with Mariah. When I got to the salon it was absolutely lovely. Very clean, well decorated and lots of space between stations ( so no one can hear you freak out about cutting off all your hair). The staff was not only pleasant but professional. It was a good sign as soon as I walked in. When I met Mariah, she was so nice and welcoming. She patiently listened to all my suggestions and actually looked at my Pinterest page. She did an amazing job totally transforming both me and my hair and she gave me the exact cut I wanted but adjusted to look the best for my face shape. I loved Studio 890! They ran a special for manicures and pedicures right before the holidays (which is great - because I am always going to salons to get services before I see family on Thanksgiving and Christmas). I got the most incredible service! The nail tech I had was so meticulous and I felt she really cared about making sure the finished product was flawless. I also got a shellac manicure for the first time! I was amazed- no chips or anything even though I was cooking and cleaning for hours for thanksgiving! Best eyebrow wax I've had in a long time. Amanda was attentive, friendly, and fast. I was in and out in 15 minutes with a perfect wax. Often when I leave a salon after an eyebrow wax I need to take my tweezers out when I get home to tweak a few spots. No need to do that this time! Also, an upscale salon with reasonable prices. At least for the wax. Only paid $15, which is much less expensive then the $19 and up other salons in this area charge. The only downfall of the entire visit was that the receptionists weren't overly friendly. However, I'm a stickler for customer service so someone else may not have been as bothered by them. Not that they were rude, but certainly didn't make you feel as though they were happy to see you. Kind of made me feel uncomfortable to inquire about hair prices, but I did anyhow and they gave me enough information before leaving. Still, I can deal with less-than-excited receptionists if it means I get good quality work. The salon is also in a very cute shopping center. I'm looking forward to going back in spring to mosey around the shops. Good spot for a shopping and pampering day with the girls! read more

Had a HORRIBLE experience. I won't mention names because I don't like to throw anyone under the bus in public, but I must complain and I NEVER ever write reviews!! I went in with very specific instructions on a balayage look with tons of pix. My overall goal was to keep growing out my natural color which is a cool level 7. I already had a bunch of out growth but wanted some grey covered and some hair painting to blend even more of what would match my natural color. I got a bright orange lowlight color on my roots and all over color, which completely reversed the integrity of my hair and what I had been growing out. Then I went back in to have it fixed(double processed) and they were too busy for a test strand and although its closer to my natural it's still a reddish brown and not a cool color. Paying over $300 with product purchase to boot, I can't say how disappointed I am in the level of expertise and the fact that they will not give me my money back!! I will be going back to my old salon(never should have switched) and have to pay again. The Manager here said: "We used the product on your hair" so we cannot refund. Oh really? Thanks for the memo...I didn't think I would have orange roots without some chemical application. WOW!!!!!!!!!! All a week before an important wedding! read more

I cannot even give this place a star. The hair dresser was very nice but, her work was that of a beginner in school....she talked a good game plan but, did not produce. I broke into tears...in all my years I have NEVER had such a HORRIBLE end result and I have personally done some things to my hair...EEK! they are insulting by saying that it looks okay to them and that they will try to fix the color if I come back and give me a free conditioning treatment for free ...like now I am at their mercy I spent 3 hours there already for this mess I haven't the time to run around at sit however long again just to have them mess it up again because frankly I think that this salon is all poof no proof. Jane said it is policy that I have to pay for this debacle at the tune of $150...to have this Jane person tell me that it is the salons policy since they opened that I have to pay this was just another JAB I had never been there before how do do I know their "policy" (which mind you is to their benefit not the dissatisfied customer) and I feel that I should not have to pay until they get it right afterall I did not want to pay for something that is BROKEN, so to speak....would anyone in their right mind purchase something that is deffective. I should have known there was a problem when the hair stylist would not face me toward the mirror. The cut was too short, my color is muddy/ green on the ends, orange at the scalp/ roots and smelled burnt when I wet it....let me tell you about the style I have very curly hair that she made look like a older ladies long roundy moundy. I have a vacation planned and here I sit with hair that I cannot even go out in public with unless I want to look like a crazy person. I won't get started on what my husband has to say. Let me add that the station/ implements were dirty...I wonder if the stylists here attended the WI state required Sanitation courses this fall. Spare yourself...I know that they will not admit that they were wrong and I might as well lit my money on fire...trust me I have wheels in motion and I will find resolve and speak on any and all platforms to enlighten the public to take heed when it comes to this place just because they are in a so-called high-end area does not make them qualified. read more
