During the entire process, they were professional, courteous, and easy to work with. The removal and installation of the new driveway was done professionally and looked great. During the first winter I noticed a lot of pops and other imperfections with the material. I contacted Vander Veer and when the weather was conducive, they came out to survey the drive. After having them check it out, Reps from Ozinga Ready Mix and Ozinga's material supplier, Vulcan, inspected the drive. The end result was that Vulcan supplied Ozinga with inferior limestone and the stone was holding too much moisture and when freeze happened it caused the stones to pop and break the surface. Unfortunately, Vander Veer was unable to do anything about this, which is understandable as it wasn't their product. Sadly, neither Ozinga nor Vulcan would take responsibility for the inferior product that they supplied Vander Veer. Both companies just shrugged it off and basically said, "Not our problem." The popping of the inferior stone continues into the 2nd winter. I will definitely used Vander Veer for any future concrete needs, but I will request that they use materials from a supplier that will stand by their product.

Response: "I guess I can just look at it." We go to the backyard, he stand there and looks. First thing he says is "Do you want stamped?" Not a good sign when the first words out of his mouth are trying to upsell. I told him no, broom finish. He has no tape measure with him to measure the area. He didn't have anything else to say so I asked him how would they reinforce it? How would they slope it? I think this guy was a salesperson who probably never did concrete work. Then I had to bring up the subject of stairs. I work during the day and this guy is wasting my time with his lack of sales skills and knowledge. So then he goes to his car and write up an estimate for $4,400. Congrats, you are the highest bidder! On the estimate form it says something like "Material prices go up in June, labor prices in July". This is to motivate you to sign now. He offers no information about whether or not the company is registered with the village. He wrote on the form "Customer gets permit", something we didn't discuss. I ended up hiring Caesar Garcia Concrete Solutions from Cicero thru Home Advisor. Saved $1400 with them. True professionals. Forget Vander Veer.

After a small number of quick email exchanges, we arrived at general terms. Then the fun began. We then waited weeks to get an updated estimate in writing. Sean would often take a week to respond to simple email requests. He promised information was coming. Never did. After almost a month, my wife emailed (she called first, but their voicemail was full...seriously?) and was responded to by Jesse, indicating that Sean had experienced a personal difficulty (totally understand...things happen), but that he would forward things the following day. The next day (which at this point made it a month of back and forth) Jesse emailed me to let me know that, due to his personal situation, Sean's crew was sidelined and Jesse's crew was already booked out for months and would be unable to do our job...at all...and they were "passing". All this after being apologized to literally 48 hours earlier and told by Jesse that he would get our updated estimate so we could move forward. Wow. People wonder why contractors have bad names in general. I had been ridiculously patient. I even would have understood if I had been told that, due to a personal issue, our job had to be pushed back a few weeks. However, to be intentionally strung along with multiple assurances over and over, only to then be dropped and left high and dry? Absolutely horrible. Jesse also apparently trolled my wife online (creepy and weird), found out she also has her own business, and made a veiled threat in an email that he hoped that she never experienced a personal challenge similar to Sean, became short staffed, and had people write negative reviews about her business. Again...wow. Stay away. Far away.

Again on 7-10 when I called to get a date for the project- they again asked me about a permit, which is NOT required on an existing fence. Repeated calls unreturned, unorganized and rude office staff. Finally got me to scheduling on 7-23 asking again about the permit. They CANCELLED my contract and the nasty text message from the owner was simply the icing on the cake. Inquiring about a delivery date was seen as "rude" yet her text which I documented says "check will go out in the mail today. Hopefully the USPS will have it to you by Monday, the 28th. If not, you know how to compliant about it"--- ! She couldn't even PICK up the phone and have a conversation..... buyer beware! The contract I signed says they can cancel at ay time due to any unforeseen circumstances- by any "change orders" MUST be agreed upon in writing by both parties. While their service may be good- their organization (or lack thereof) and office staff and kindness- isn't part of their core values. I'm relieved I'm not using them. ps- notice that all of the good reviews are OLD. Check out the ones from 2024 (Abra) Have you ever had an owner respond in this nature? Calling the "customer" a liar?
