Went through through the trouble to fill the online form for a prelim estimate. Spoiler alert: whether you filll our basic or standard patio covering the price is $6,500. (Assumed this is on the low side) First response from the owner: Thanks for your inquiry! However, our project minimum starts at $7,500. Thanks and we wish you good luck with your outdoor living project. Have a great evening! Which I responded that minimum wasn't really an issue and we really wanted someone to help us design the solution. To which I received: Thanks for letting us know! We are booked up solid for the remainder of this month for in person estimates. But we'd still love to provide you with a ballpark estimate via email, if that works for you. We've used Decathlon (hey April & Jerry!) to build patios twice now (previous house and current). So have our neighbors and best friends. We all had GREAT experiences that led to great patios that we enjoy years later. They do beautiful wood work and have the nicest employees. September 22nd: Met at my house for an estimate. It took over an hour. Did not hear back from them. October 3rd: Sent email asking how long it takes to get estimate. No response received. October 7th, I posted this yelp review: "Wasted my time meeting them at my house for an estimate. I had to leave work early and spend over an hour with them answering questions and going through their pictures. They gave me a list of references and a pen and then I never heard from them again. I emailed them over a week later to ask how long it takes to receive an estimate and they never responded. Waste of time and unprofessional." October 9th: Email from them said: "Happy Friday! I greatly apologize for the delay regarding your quote. Jerry's been extremely behind with his paperwork. However, he is working on several today and over the weekend, including yours, and you will have it by the weekend or sooner. We really appreciate your patience and understanding!" October 26th: I still haven't heard back from them. I never received a quote. Conclusion: I wouldn't hire these people. read more

Decathlon Construction just finished an arbor and patio project at our home. These guys are great. From the owner Jerry, who is smart, fair, organized and a pleasure to deal with, to his wife April, who runs the business end, thru all their subcontractors, this is a first quality company. 1. Fair and honest price for the project. No annoying add ons. Jerry is a very smart guy and he knows what he is doing so there is no need to add lots of additional costs, the man knows his business. 2. The subs, all of them, are also quality people who take pride in their work. 3. They have a system which is a well oiled machine. One sub finishes, the next shows up, does his thing, all thru the project. We had the carpenters, the stain men, then Jerry outlining the concrete, then the concrete crew, and then the finish guys. All like clockwork, we didn't have to do much except watch (and of course offer some suggestions, all received pleasantly.) 4. And the finished product looks even nicer than we expected. Jerry takes great pride in his product and it shows. 5. Call this company if you need their type of work done, really good, quality people. read more

Edit: I ran into several more hiccups after the job was done. While the work that was done well was done very well, some of the work was not and all of it required alot more effort on my part than I expected considering I was not hired to manage the job. Dropping them from 5 to 3 stars. ------------------------------------------------------------------- I just had a patio and fireplace done by Decathlon. The quality of work was exceptional. Jerry has definitely spent some time finding the best subs in the area. The worst of them was better than most I have worked with in the past. The whole process was not all roses. It is very difficult to co-ordinate 6 different teams of people to work on one site and we definitely had some pains from that. For anyone planning a outdoor patio, I would recommend you do as much research as possible in advance (I did not) so that you have an idea of what you want and are prepared to answer the inevitable questions that will come up. Also, review the work done every day to make sure it is what you were expecting. If you are not happy Decathlon WILL find a way to make you happy but it helps if you monitor the work daily. While the process was not smooth, the end product was so great that I was not willing to dock them any stars. Just inspect the work and keep April up to date on how it is going and you will have a great finished product. read more

We had a patio built onto my previous home 8 years ago. It was a nightmare. I thought I did my homework but things did not go well. It was a very stressful experience with a less than expected outcome. Forward 8 years. We have a new home in need of a patio. We contacted several builders. The prices varied wildly for the same build. We chose Decathlon Construction as they were very cost competitive, nice people, and their web site clearly shows they know what they are doing. Decathlon Construction just completed our patio. They exceeded our expectations all the way through this project. These projects can be stressful or great fun based on by the contractors and subcontractors. Our patio was so much fun for us. Everyone at Decathlon Construction including their subcontractors were a pleasure to work with. It was so nice when we got into the details of the build we never heard, "that costs extra". It was also amazing when we ran into small issues, how aggressively they corrected them. Again, exceeding our expectations. We were so impressed with the detail quality of your sub's work. Their carpenters are truly engineers and artists. We were amazed with their sound construction and the detail they did on their finishing work. The time they spent on the trim was amazing. No one fell asleep in geometry class from this group! The concrete slab also exceeded our expectations. The slab they built was exactly what we discussed. Every detail was included. The post wraps were nothing short of a work of art. It was great working with someone open to our ideas and who could combine them into something reasonable. He created something special and unique for us. Even the painting was done very well. I am sort of cursed with the ability to notice the finest details and imperfections. Everything was perfect. What also sets Decathlon Construction apart from their competition is their communication and customer support. I have spent a lot of time raving about their technical skills and quality. Equally important is how they (April) was there along the way offering status updates and comfort. IMO, skilled tradesmen seldom know how to run a business. Most have great technical skills but flounder when it comes to running a company of their own. They typically fail when it comes to customer interaction and scheduling. Decathlon Construction is clearly different and is heads above the competition. They made the process of building our patio a wonderful experience and most importantly, they built us a patio, which exceeded our expectations. I remember my first email to April. These guys are flakes. Had to reschedule three times, twice because their internet was out. Right. The third time they said between 4 and 5pm. I get a call at 4:40 that they were heading my way. They show up right before 5. When you say between 4 and 5, you should plan on being there between 4 and 5, not after 5. This especially since you've flaked TWICE. How can I trust the integrity of the estimate or the work if you can't even commit to an appointment. Moving right along from these people as fast as I can. read more

Jerry designed and built a covered patio in the spring of 2015 that my family has thoroughly enjoyed. Our project was quite a large one as it extended the entire length of our home. It involved carpenters, electricians, concrete specialists, painters and a gutter company. The project took several weeks and I reviewed the progress daily. Daily communication with the subcontractors was key to getting exactly what I wanted. Used Decathlon to replace our deck in the back yard. They ultimately did a good job and the pricing was great compared to other companies. However, the communication is terrible. You won't hear back from Jerry after the first meeting and it takes a while to get the job done. I mean a long while!! The workers they hire are great though.
