Decanter is one of me and my husbands favorite places for brunch and dinner. The brunch creations are very delicious and different and dinner as well. I really appreciate the creativity and thought put into each dish. I have not ever had a bad dish from decanter. The service is great as well! We usually sit by the bar area and are serviced by the bartenders who are all amazing and creative. When I was pregnant I would get the most amazing cocktails made as well. Since I've had my baby I haven't gone much but we did get a date night and our plates did not disappoint I had the salmon and shrimp hubby had a steak! I had high hopes for this place, but unfortunately, it fell way short. The prices are outrageously high for what you get & for the local market --definitely not worth it. The steak, which should have been the star of the meal, was overcooked and lacked flavor. I've had better quality cuts at chain restaurants for half the price. The sides were equally disappointing--salty and unimaginative, and the portions were embarrassingly weird & in a bowl vs plated. To top it off, the service was lackluster. Our server seemed inexperienced, unsupported, but very sweet in her delivery. For a place that markets itself as upscale, the ambiance was nothing special--dim lighting can't hide the fact that the $175 for a group/private room that doesn't goes towards the final bill is beyond ridiculous. Save your money and go somewhere that actually delivers on quality and experience. I won't be back. read more

I took my wife and two grown kids to Decanter for her birthday . It was going to be a happy occasion but it turned very sour with slow, indifferent service . I made reservations for four and confirmed it the day before . When we arrived they didn't have a table nor a waiter assigned. We waited and when we got to the table , we waited another ten minutes for a waitress . No water was brought to the table and the appetizers were served before we had any water or beverages . We contemplated leaving but we marched on to a $379.00 bill and a horrible feeling of being let down when we left . My hats off to the cook staff . The food is excellent . But when we paid over $70.00 for a steak , I expected first class service . I will never go back and will discourage anyone to go.. read more

My family and I dined at Decanter to celebrate my father's 70th birthday. With a party size of 15 we were forced to dine in a private room with a $175 deposit to secure the room. After dinner we were informed that not would the deposit not be applied towards the bill, but we'd be required to pay the 20% gratuity. This after we returned two steak dishes for being overcooked, al dente noodle dishes, and one server for 15 people. But I will say that our server Jordyn did great; the bright star of the evening. In my opinion dining here is not worth the time or price tag. I'd find elsewhere to go. read more

This was my first time in Albany and I definitely wouldn't come here even if there were no other places open and my car broke down. Everything was horrible and in need of improvement. The only decent aspect of our visit was our server, who was very sweet. We had a table of 10+, and the food was not good at all; it was overcooked. Amazing atmosphere, service and seriously top notch service! I really enjoyed the bartenders skill with my bourbon old fashioned! My husband, a filet mignon connoisseur, swears theirs was the best ever! My shrimp dish was positively decadent! The crème brûlée was the crowing touch paired with rich Irish coffee! First time experience here. Our waiter Walker was nice, I came with a party celebrating a friend's birthday. Two people in the party ordered a drink and could not tolerate the taste, so asked the waiter if it was okay to take it back. The waiter stated it was no problem and asked them what they would like in exchange. As I was walking to the restroom, I heard the female manager telling him "we don't take it back just because they don't like how it tastes", which is my first time experiencing or hearing this from a restaurant. The menu states the mission from the establishment is to make everyone feel welcome and accepted, this was not the case for us. My party ended up paying for drinks they never consumed. This restaurant is not one that I would recommend to ANYONE. The food took over an hour & a half to come & it was not hot. 3/10 experience overall. read more

Where do I begin.... It's clean with poor lighting. But, let's begin with being seated and left 15 minutes before the server came and took our drink order. Grilled oysters left something to be desired. They were served as room temperature. Still no request to take dinner order after 25 minutes. I finally asked server if she would take the order. Waited another 20 for server to come back to let us know no paper was in the printer. Kitchen hadn't received our order. So she had to tell them to rush the order. Steak was cooked to perfection side veggies/starch was room temperature and tasted as if it was leftover. Finished eating, no server, 15 minutes passed, took a trip to the restroom, and returned to table-no server or check. Had to get the attention of the bar tender to find server for check. I won't even discuss the check. All the while, no manager ever walked into the dining area to check on the customers. As I walked out, I found my server at the hostess desk.
