When I'm Ft Wayne, you must drive immediately to DeBrand Fine Chocolates!!! We went to the location at Jefferson Pointe Shopping Center. It's located on the corner, near Von Maur and Trader Joe's. The inside and outside are so inviting, and draws you inside their store. Once inside the store, we were greeted by a very friendly staff. They were helpful on breaking down their chocolates to: Classic Collection, Truffle Collection and the Connoisseur Collection. Today, we opted for the Truffle Collection and purchased the peanut butter, raspberry, milk chocolate, Mocha, Dark Chocolate and Caramel. Needless to say, they were all fantastic! We will definitely be back and try the other types, but today, the Truffle collection hit the spot! I'm from out of town as a trucker (Clarksville, TN). I'm so thankful that we do NOT have this store in my town bcuz id have a credit card maxed out so to fine chocolate purchases. This is, quite honestly, the best chocolate I've ever had. I had 3 truffles (caramel, peanut butter, and almond at $4 each) and 2 small 1" squares (peanut butter and [i forgot] at $2 each). I didn't know what to expect since it's a chocolate shop but they had some coffee options. Basically just black coffee or some chocolate varieties. I tried the dark chocolate one and it was okay. I couldn't even tell it was coffee because the chocolate flavor was so potent. I have a friend who just moved to Australia and was really missing his Debrand chocolate, so he had me go to the store for him to fill a care package. The staff working the day after Valentine's Day was great! I enjoyed an amazing chocolate cheesecake decorated so beautifully on its plate! While I was enjoying my cheesecake, a customer came in to return chocolate her boyfriend got her for Valentine's Day. She was difficult at first with a bad attitude from the second she walked in the door, but the staff turned it around very fast! She left with an exchange (I believe a partial amount of what she brought in) and she also left with what her boyfriend had gotten her since they would have had to throw away the return. I was extremely impressed with how they handled low and high maintenance customers! I also loved how the inside looked. Clean and very innovative. It looks very high class. I have great memories of DeBrand's from when I was a kid. We always visited Ft. Wayne and went tobogganing and then to DeBrand's for hot chocolate. YUM! So when I was in town recently, I was thinking about it and wanted to go. We went to this location at Jefferson Point since my husband wanted to visit a store nearby. I walked in and there were a few people standing by the counter and a few people who were behind it putting chocolates in gift boxes. I stood there for a couple minutes feeling a bit awkward because I wasn't sure how to be helped and wasn't acknowledged. Finally I was. I made my order, buying some gifts for family and a few things for myself. If I had more time, I would have gotten the hot cocoa, but I got a couple of their gift sets of it so I can enjoy later. I have loved Debrand since 1993. Back then I was in High School and a vegetarian - but now that I am vegan - I am disappointed that they do not offer any dairy free chocolates. Also, over the years my palette for fine chocolate has expanded and I don't find the richness of their chocolate to be up to par with similar price point chocolates. Along those lines - I was also surprised that none of the staff could tell me the source of origin of their cocoa powder....this is important these days if you are looking to be a responsible consumer and/or business. Debrand chocolates are amazing! Some of the best chocolates that I have ever tasted. The desserts are also so good, especially the sundaes. But, this brings me to to the reason for not rating Debrand with five stars. You can order your sundae in a chocolate dish. This dish used to be made of "real" chocolate -- the same quality chocolate as the rest of their candies. But now, they use a liquid chocolate that is akin to a dairy queen dip cone to make the chocolate dish, and it does not taste nearly as good as the original chocolate dishes. It is disappointing, especially because the price has not decreased. On the whole I would still absolutely recommend the chocolates and the sundaes, but skip the chocolate dish. read more

When most people think of a chocolate shop, they think of cheap chocolate and a messy scene. However, DeBrands Fine Chocolates can't even be compared to a regular chocolate shop. I decided to check out the well-known chocolate shop on a Wednesday around 5pm. Before walking into the shop located in Jefferson Pointe, I noticed how different the building looked from all the others. The outside walls were mostly all glass, but there was a dark tint to it. The building was white, while the rest of the buildings beside it were yellow. I found the location of the shop to be placed perfectly because it's in an outside mall, right next to a high-class store, Von Maur. After a long day of shopping, people want to wind down and will find that getting a dessert is rather rewarding. Also, because the shop is located on the corner of the mall, cars have to pass it to be able to enter or exit the mall. The shop is also visible for cars driving by on Jefferson Boulevard. As I walked into the shop with my friend, Ethan, I noticed how fancy and high class it is. The shop was a bit dark with wonderful, sparkling chandeliers that hung from the ceiling. There was a dark red wall paper surrounding the store with a spiral pattern in it. Also, a brightly lit case filled with hundreds of different kinds of chocolate was placed in the middle of the shop. Around the corner, there was a booth with mirrors hanging above it, tables, and chairs. The place was empty of customers, factoring in the time of season where chocolate isn't quite popular because of the absence of any holidays. Also, there are people who refuse to go to an expensive dessert shop because it's too high priced. If I would have walked into a regular chocolate shop, the place would have been so much busier because of the chocolate not being around two to three dollars a piece. Right away, all of the workers greeted us very warmly. As we walked up to the marble counter top, there was a white menu with possible ice cream sundae choices. A worker asked us if we were ready to order, but we weren't ready quite yet because of the many choices a sundae has to offer. Finally when we were ready, one of the workers looked over and walked towards us. I ordered the single scooped, vanilla sundae with dark chocolate and peanut butter. I noticed that the young female worker didn't even have to write it down, which was impressive. Ethan then ordered the single scooped, vanilla sundae with dark chocolate and caramel. She walked to her register and told us our total, which was around seventeen dollars! I knew by the look of the place that the chocolate would be expensive, but once I heard the total, I knew that the chocolate must have been one of a kind. Once Ethan paid, the worker told us to take a seat, and that she'll bring the sundaes to us. After a short walk around the corner of the shop, we sat down in comfy, red chairs. The tables were all spotless from crumbs. Right by our table, there was a mini table with water and cups if we became thirsty. After two minutes, a worker brought out napkins and spoons for our sundaes. Then shortly after, she brought out our delicious desserts. Ethan's mouth dropped at the sight of the decorated plate, drizzled with chocolate and caramel over and under the ice cream. My sundae had four rays of crispy peanut butter coming out from the sides of the sundae, and dark chocolate drizzled over the top. The taste was like nothing I've ever tasted. Rich chocolate and the sweetness of the peanut butter with the ice cream was such a delightful combination. After Ethan and I finished our exquisite sundaes, the friendly workers told us to leave our plates on the table; for they will fetch them once we have left. Overall, the visit was like nothing before. The food was phenomenal, while the service was great. The workers were very friendly and kept our needs satisfied. Even though the place was empty of customers, the workers stayed busy and cleaned while there were no customers needing assistance.
